[RELEASE] The Fruit of Grisaia All-ages PS Vita English Patch (Restoration patch in the works!)

header.jpg

Hello everyone! For all the people who love to play visual novels on the go here is an English patch for PS Vita version of The Fruit of Grisaia. This initial patch provides full English text for all routes. This patch is based on Steam release of The Fruit of Grisaia. All credit for TRANSLATION goes to Frontwing and Sekai Project.

 UPDATE (08/01/2019): Finally a NoNpDRM version! I'm really really sorry this took so long, but when real life calls you don't hang up. As for those wondering about the restoration patch, I've posted an update on our Discord, but basically it turned out to be too big of a task for me to handle alone and as such is not being worked on anymore. If anyone is interested in helping, feel free to contact me.
HUGE THANKS to JeyEmill for editing the images, ItsRigs for translating the settings menu and DrDaxxy for a lot of help with programming side of things!
Full patch: https://waa.ai/oJ6M (MEGA) https://waa.ai/oJ6d (MediaFire)

I find it amusing that this was released before Sekai Project's own official english Vita port, even though it has already been over 2 years since the Kickstarter project ended.
Especially since i also happen to be a backer of that project myself...

The reason the Vita port is taking so long is because
1) Getting Sony's permission to be a developer and publisher on PSN took them a good nine months because Sony sucks and
2) They had to port the game to Unity because of something weird going on with the CatSystem2 licensing for Vita (probably because it's super expensive to buy a CS2 Vita license, or programming issues with CatSystem2)

I was sure they wanted to port it to Unity was because that would mean that they could support more platforms etc in the future. The PC version is a Unity port btw.

The PC version is not a Unity port. They did also port it to Unity to support more platforms but that was only part of it.
The PC version is still made in CatSystem2, unless they released the Unity port to steam now.
Either way, there were issues with CS2's licensing for Vita which led to the Unity port being used for the Vita version too.

about this:
- Choices have underscores instead of spaces (engine limitation)

Have you tried using full-width spaces? Grisaia's PC version had trouble supporting the regular space character in the menus and they had to replace it with full width spaces instead, so it'd make sense for that to happen with the choice options here, too.

Yes, full-width spaces do indeed work, but without modifying the font they look....too full-width. It is in the plans to fix this with the restoration patch.

Full width is better than underscores, though, even if it doesn't look great.
And are you going to port all the fixes to the all-ages patch or is it 18+ only?

Hey guys! The patch is updated to include translated UI (mostly)! Also I have a little update on the restoration patch: I kind of underestimated the amount of work needed for it. The thing is, yes, PS Vita version also runs on CatSystem2 like PC, but the script format is completely different. That means that I have to rewrite the missing scripts or write a converter for them. But the biggest issue is pinning down all the difference between all-ages and 18+ versions (CGs, text and all that stuff, if anyone wants to help with that, feel free to hit me up on Discord ;) ). I am definitely not abandoning this project, but I'm moving it down my pipeline because I'm simply a bit tired of it (I've been working on Grisaia Vita since October). I am giving the priority to some new projects, so please look forward to those!

Any news on the restoration patch? Great work on the english patch btw.
It's not happening. Unlike Eiyuu Senki which uses a really simple (and unencrypted) scripting system, Grisaia uses CatSystem2 which is needlessly complicated and makes it too much work for one person to make a scene restoration patch.

Just checking if installed it right is the main menu still supposed to be in Japanese?
No, it is not supposed to be like that. Latest patch translates all the menus and replaces 3 files: eboot.bin, SCRIPT.PAK, OTHCG.PAK. Please make sure you're using a verision that patches all those 3 files.

Hmm maybe thats my issue when I use the patcher it only give me eboot and script files but not OTHCG.PAK

This is how the main menu looks like:
