yes it is and is very difficult(at least I don't find an easier way or someone that helped ... there are a lot of expert DS hackers but they don't care to help newbies :/ or at least don't cared about me :v )
So well, I need to find that tuto again but I' not sure if still on my history... gotta give a look when I get in home
but well you need an map editor, so you can extract it, use a MK program to convert ir, edit in an older version of sketchup (8 if I'mnot wrong, that can import .obj files with a free addon, the newer only have paid addon for that) to edit, reconvert woth the MK program and import on the map editor.

wait, are you telling me that ds pokemon rom uses 3d terrain?

if so, then no wonder there is no map editor

Generally speaking "possible" is not a great question to ask a ROM hacker as it is so broad really.

I would say it breaks down into three categories, maybe four

1) Something clearly able to be done in the game as the game basically does it anyway. 1a), especially where pokemon is concerned, is "is there a high level tool a la level makers/game maker which I can use to do it" and for pokemon there often is.

2) Possible but could be an awful lot of work. I can add RPG elements to tetris and the system is clearly capable of doing it but it is fairly full on as there is not much scope for it already within the game. 1) can become 2) depending upon how the game is programmed (usually badly programmed if so but it is not like you can call the devs up, yell at them and suddenly a well programmed game will appear).

3) Clearly impossible. No I am not going to be able to make the DS decode 4K H264 video in real time.

Yours is clearly a 1) and 1a) affair, but with an element of 2) for the same reason that typing a reply to a what do you want for dinner email is easy but writing a novel is time consuming, however as it is your time that gets spent doing it and not mine then I can point you in the right direction to begin with.

Afraid I am a bit behind on my DS pokemon hacking tools but I have seen such things for the GBA (and all previous generations for that matter) and it is where hacking invariably heads. Confusingly if you are a more general hacker is pokemon modders use the term scripting to refer to event scripting within the game (you ask me if I can edit scripts in a game and I will think you are talking about text). You can edit levels all you want but having npcs wander in circles and other fun things like that falls under the remit of (event) scripting, and equally any existing scripts might be broken if you edit the level a certain way. Pokemon also does some fairly high level game design at points -- a level is a level is a level but you arrange it right and now you have a teleporter maze within a game that never consciously had a dedicated set of teleporter maze routines programmed in.
I also do not know what pokemon hacks there are out there in the world, mainly as after the thousandth "I edited the starter and made one of the sprites look like a penis" hacks you tune most things out.

yeah, it's kinda hard to notice unless the game change a bit of the perspective... you can notice at some point maps can even edit it in some editors xD but hey, never saw the Platinum opening ?:v

Well there are editor for overwords like houses and objects, events and teleports(but I have no idea how to ... ) you can see the "fan games" like light platinum that changes a lot of it xD other that have minor edits as well like silverblue ...

one of my experiments with this was trying to put the HGSS pokemon center into platinum ... kinda worked but messed as you can imagine xD I had no idea how to place the secound floor npc there or even organize the ones that where there
"I edited the starter and made one of the sprites look like a penis" hacks you tune most things out.
:rofl2: yeah XD

I think because kinds like this the DS pokemon editing aren't that open to help other people projects ... or I'm really unlucky xp I don't think my ideas are too stupid to be reneged like that lol

but yeah, pokemon are like 1.1a and 2 there

It's something I've been trying to figure out too. The only thing you can do is to extract the terrain file of an existing map with SDSME and start from there. Try hex editing it around and figure out how to raise the level of a certain area.

What I know is that although the map and the buildings are 3d models, movements and terrain levels are still tile-based, so editong the terrain can be done. You just have to figure out what goes where.
