If you really wanted/needed to play that game you should have installed a different region's version. But that is why it's also mentioned to use a ds game that you have no intention to play.

Booting the console won't brick the Wii U. If you try to autoboot something that is located on the SD card it will just hang with a "-5" error. That being said, to back up the NAND you can use Mocha to launch redNAND. You will need at least a 64GB card for a 32GB Wii U. Then you can extract the dump using a program called SIO NAND Dumper or some shit like that. The details can be found in @iAqua tutorial on CFW/redNAND. Your OTP can be dumped with OTP2SD homebrew available on the Homebrew Appstore.

You should hardmod your wiiu, mount your nand and restore the default title on system.xml, you don't need to buy a new one.
Is that possible without a NAND backup or at least OTP keys? I thought you were fucked without at least the OTP keys.
Afaik you don't need your OTP with that experimental hardmod method. Just backup your fucked nand, mount it on PC, fix your fucked nand and flash your fixed nand. Sounds simple but nobody messed with that hardmod method yet, so who knows...

Just to re-emphasise for people who might try this - you MUST remove your USB drive when updating CBHC.
I decided to update to the latest CBHC version today (for no particular reason) but I forgot to remove my USB drive. Everything seemed to work fine... except my machine refused to recognise SD cards. I tried this in both Wii U and vWii mode, and the same card worked fine in my PC. I then tried another SD card in the Wii U which still refused to work. I paniced - I thought I broke the SD card slot on the console! ...then I remembered that I didn't remove the USB drive when reinstalling CBHC. I removed the USB drive and the SD worked fine. I then re-installed CBHC with the USB drive unplugged.
All works perfectly now! But lesson learnt - don't forget to remove the USB drive!

Don't do that if you don't wanna have a bad time, just install the channel version of HBL.
