OP
R4i run on TWL Firm so you shouldn't have any problem.
And if you recently install A9LH, you will have 2 layers of FIRM protection if SD inserted (except you're using Gateway A9LH).
But, to make sure, when next update come, you can visit the community for check if it safe to update or not.
I used the plailect guide for A9lh so yes,i have both the arm9loaderhax.bin in the root of my sd card and in the ctr NAND which makes it sdless (I also transferred my emunand data to the sysnand after installing a9lh as instructed in the guide using both hourglass9 and godmode9).Ill be shure to check here when a update pops up of course.

Well, I'll be the obligatory Gateway hater here.
Outside of .3ds support, it offers no advantages, only disadvantages from there on out (such as no FIRM0/1 protection), also having brick code implemented which atimes bricked their own customers.
If this issue ever gets resolved, I recommend OP to just stick solely to SDless A9lh+Luma, because I'm skeptical of the use of Gateway not being the culprit here.

It's really not spooky. In cases like this, the OP often just omits a detail to shift blame away from themselves. Considering how many tests that have been run (including my own.) It seems highly unlikely that Luma3DS failed and more likely that OP was the one who failed. Like they said, they were using a Gateway. Gateway does not have FIRM0/1 protection, which means updating your sysNAND in Gateway Mode will remove A9LH. It could be why the System Settings are broken.

I didn't update in gateway mode i'm 100% sure

It is my experience with this site that the user requesting help is not being 100% truthful. Not necessarily intentional, but due to a lack of knowledge. Just look at this exert from OP: "Hi, i was playing Mario kart with gateway (i had the normal A9LH not the gw A9lh) ". Assuming he is referring to Plailect's Guide over Gateway's A9LH installation, but who knows. Was he using a payload from https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-using-luma3ds-with-gateway-on-v2-a9lh.431691/ or the wrong payload?

A9LH doesn't just disappear, especially with Luma3DS. Chances are, OP updated by accident in GW mode, which has no FIRM protection, and overwrote A9LH.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

That is somebody using the incorrect terminology. They are referring to data input set v4.

There was A9LH, then A9LHv2 which are larger payloads. There was also A9LHv.2 which was the original SDLess A9LH. It has since been deprecated as Aurora's A9LH supports SDLess booting through CTRNAND.

I was using a payload from the "use luma3ds with gateway on v2 A9lh" guide

Here's what i did before A9Lh got removed:

i replaced my sysnand by my emunand (i did it the last week when i installed A9lh) with the keep A9LH option and updated it in luma
Installed a custom keyboard (in luma)
Deleted the system title badword list (in luma)
And playing with my gateway

And now i think why system settings crashes, it's because of my custom keyboard (system settings crashed when i forgot to encrypt the keyboard .cia)

Also sorry if i didn't reply, i didn't get any notifications

Were you able to play non-purchased games that you had installed after the NAND transfer? You said you were playing Mario Kart online, right? Did you receive any update notifications or enter the eShop?

In fairness, it does have Gateshark.

What happens when you hold down SELECT at boot without the SD card in? I know that you tried bringing up the Luma config menu before, but it wasn't clear whether or not you had actually installed SD-less Luma or tried bringing up the config menu in SD-less Luma.

I think it would be better to call it "SD-Less A9LH" since Luma is just the CFW, not the payload.

Anyway, I don't think he installed the SD-Less version, since he says he used an older version.

That sounds about right, otherwise he would have that second layer of protection.

Would trying to update using safe mode help? Or if he tries to access homebrew or the decrypt 9 url with the browser to restore a backup?

Well A9lh is always sd-less. The thing that's loaded [cfw] is in 2 positions sd and ctrnand - in this case luma [are there any other cfws set up to work with the current a9lh?]

To put it plainly, if you can't access the Luma config menu while holding select, or load a payload, there is no A9LH on your device.

You can attempt to fix the system settings, restoring them, by using system restore, but this will also update sysnand to the latest version.
I suppose that's true, but couldn't NTR more or less provide the same experience?

Sure, NTR ports codes from GateShark.

By the sound of it OP is already on latest firmware with non-A9LH. At this point I think it's just a hardmod/dsiWare downgrade :c

I'm surprised someone hasn't suggested sending the 3ds to a hard modder to inspect the system and get a 2nd opinion of what really went down. Even so they would be able to get a downgrade and move on with life than us speculating infinitely until the cows come home.
