I can't describe you how so much fun I having with this game, I don't have a Wii U so this is my first time with Mario Maker! pre loaded courses are great, the editor is easy to understand (and hard to master) and overall it's a really good port.

I hope that it sells well, so we can have new updates with more stuff.
I've got the WiiU version and I love it. I can't wait to play it on my 3DS too :D

We should probably just wait up to a year for the game's release. If people did find a way to pull this idea off, some of them might use Mario Maker very immaturely, and cost the game a possible online capability update. We all know how uptight Nintendo is about people running exploits, modding, and even doing simple "hacks". I'm sure they get tired of having to patch so many tricks and shortcuts, so upsetting them just might put this game in an even worse position.

And really, with so many troll courses, inappropriate levels, and game-breaking glitches discovered, I really can't blame Nintendo for holding back. Many players need to stop pushing the envelope, in my opinion. It just takes the fun out of the game.
But at the same time, Nintendo needs to be more openminded.

Anyways with that said. I hope that if anyone here plans to release a tool or make a site that they contact me if possible. We have the site already that is basically a replacement of the bookmark site and we would love to be able to use that to help share levels to 3DS users if we can extract saves from levels. Plus we can share the research we have already done on the WiiU version.

A bookmark site for 3DS would be great. If the data in the save file isn't too tricky, hopefully we can use a save file manager to extract/import specific created levels - and upload them to the bookmark site to share.

Not as good as it all being native like the Wii U version but I'm sure Nintendo had their reasons not to do it :(

Hmm, dumping the extdata for this game gives a 0xD900458B error (Invalid RomFS / savedata block hash).
The data dumps, but I guess there is some sort of AP involved.

It dumps 221 files at 270KB a piece by the way, whether you make any levels or not.

I wonder how much effort it'd take to capture level-uploading requests from the Wii U version and recreate them using files taken from the 3DS version. (probably way too much for this community to handle)

Okay, maybe i'm just being cynical here but wouldn't you have to somewhat reverse engineer the game to implement an online feature in it? I wouldn't think it's just "let's code a server and it works". I wouldn't know how to do this for the life of me but still, you guys are making it sound way to easy and probably more easy than it actually is.

I'd think a seperate homebrew to upload/download files from savedata would be more logical.

That would be tricky and probably impossible, but what is being suggested is a separate app that can extract/inject data into the save file. Once you have the data out of the save file, having a website to upload and sort it on should be possible e.g. you could even have a thread on GBATemp where we upload it and share, a bit basic but better than nothing.

that shouldn't be all too hard eh?
and I'm sure somebody out there would be happy to host a site for it
otherwise a well structured thread would be more than good enough

Better still if people could add a small computer to the website as a node for everyone to upload their courses too. Distributed networking means costs can be kept nice and low, and i've got a lovely new 320 Gigabyte Western Digital sitting in a box at home waiting to be used.

I could add a portion to my website that you guys can upload/download courses from. I cant link the url as it has CIA's on it EVERYWHERE - But for the most part it would work.

Tad bit off topic but we all know at some point in time someones gona make an exploite to launch the hbl from a hacked smm map, something like what was done with brawl on the wii. Pretty much every game with large user generated content is a exploit so its not that hard to see.

I think you can use existing homebrew to extract SMM maps. Use an extdata manager to get the course files from Mario Maker and inject them on another SD Card.

I already have a site that would be pretty much perfect for this and offered the use of it earlier in the thread. Not saying we will end up using mine, but I'm more than happy with working together and getting something working. The site it self is https://makersofmario.com we already have a good collection of the WiiU level info. As stated earlier, I have been working with a team to try and download levels directly from Nintendo without the use of a WiiU, and while a lot of progress on that has been made we are still getting stuck on a few stages. So if anyone wants to help with that we could use it.

Otherwise, as stated I'm committed to the Super Mario Maker community and have a good background on a lot of the requirements for this job to get done. I'm more open to working with others to ensure overlap of work isn't being done/wasted. I should have mentioned this in my first post too, but I can also be contacted on Discord (jaku#5640) and we can discuss further if anyone else wants to work on a project to help share levels.
