I forgot to mention that I've the cartridge of the game, so I wouldn't even need to install it, right?
and thank you ^^
Indeed! Each retail game has it's own unique 'Private Header'. It's this header that makes it safe to play online.

People who use .3DS ROMs don't have a header. So many people insert a Public Header into the ROM which many people can use.

This is one way people get banned from online play though, so it can be risky. If 2 people are using the same Header online at the same time then Nintendo can detect that someone is playing an illegal copy, as there should never be a situation where the exact same header is used by 2 different people!

Since your cartridge is Retail and legal, there's no way that someone else can have the same header as you so you're safe :)

Just got a New 3DS and i'm a little stuck.

I have OOT hack running on 11.0.0-33u (system came with that) and I am attempting to emunand.

However I'm seeing in some guides I can't even do anything on 11.0.0-33u as I need a hardmod but some don't think I need one.

I've tried to get myself back into the swing of things but can't even boot into minipasta or the like as I just get a black screen or it flashes black then red.

Someone point me in the right direction.

Hey everyone, I have a Old 3DS running rxTools and MenuHax and am looking to switch over to Luma3DS. I followed this guide, but MenuHaxis still booting into rxTools instead of Luma.

http://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-updating-from-rxtools-to-luma3ds.427735/

The guide basically boiled down to me putting arm9loaderhax.bin file to the root of the SD and replacing the old boot.3dsx file with a new one from the latest build of Luma3DS. I think it's because of the config file, but I'm not sure. Can someone guide me into the right direction?

Sounds like you didn't really replace arm9loaderhax.bin. Make sure you didn't replace some other file like "arm9bootloader.bin"

The thing is, I never had a file named arm9loaderhax.bin or anything related to arm9loader before I put it in my SD card a few moments ago. Forgive my ignorance, but I haven't touched 3DS CFW in ages.

I know everyone suggests it, but if you have the time you might just want to install a9lh that boots when you start the system.

If you aren't interested I can still try to help you get menuhax working.

So I take it that a9lh is a superior form of MenuHax? I'll take a look at it later when I'm not too busy. I was under the impression this would be a quick and easy switch, but I guess some things don't work out that way lol. Thanks for the help so far.

Yeah. a9lh allows you to boot custom code before almost everything else - making your 3ds almost completely brick resistant.

It's totally worth it.

What's coming first? CFW for 11.0 or a downgrade for 11.0? Any estimate on how long it would take for either or?
Apparently someone will be releasing a 11.0/11.1 downgrade by Christmas, it'll use the DSi Downgrade method (so fieldrunners) but will only require 1 3DS. So your best bet is waiting for that as it was patched in 11.2 :)

@Fil o_O I see you have a Gateway, is it up and running atm? I would really appreciate if you could convert my old gateway .sav to cia format for me :) It's for Pokemon Y

Noob question: I recent acquired a modded N3DS running a9lh and Luma. I got it pretty much specifically to do videos. I have no intention of playing "less-than-legit" versions of games. I plan only to play authentic, retail cartridges. I have a few questions regarding this.

1. Some of them are imports. I know that with Luma I can play them, but will there be any issue playing online? (Keep in mind, these will be physical retail carts)

2. If the above works, and said games require an update to play online, can I update? (Not familiar with the limitations, or how the system works) is there a chance of getting banned?

Thanks in advance for any help!

There are rumours that out-of-region games played online will result in a ban. If there is, it'll only be a 15-day ban not a permanent one so feel free to try it and let us know either way (it may take several instances of the "bad" behaviour to trigger a ban, so just because you don't get banned the first time, don't assume that means it's safe).

For updates, you can install cia updates since you won't be able to get on the eShop to update them.

Wait so does that mean that it should be there on Christmas/before Christmas? And also could you explain to me about the dsi method? And when you say that 11.2 is patched does that mean you can downgrade from 11.2 to 9.2?

The conference is in late December after Christmas, it will probably be unveiled then. 11.2 is patched for this method - you will need a second console to do a normal DSiWare downgrade (a method available right now so at least you don't have to wait).

Hmm. It would be legitimate play, no modded save game or cheats/hacks. Either way, I will try it.

Also, what exactly to you mean by install cia updates? I'm not quite clear on what the answer to the updates are.

You install update files in cia form. Like a game. What is it exactly you don't understand?

Edit: I should have added to my previous answer that download play likely won't work. It can be made to work, but a bit fiddly. In not sure what the requirements are for the other people - whether their console region has to match yours, or their game region has to match your game's region. And you also have to install something that will set the EULA to accepted - for some reason you can't accept it yourself, it just goes in circles (you accept it, then it asks you again).
