depending on the specs and games available, it will either be "best of both worlds" or "worst of both worlds" (by this I mean: a home console with terrible specs / a handheld console with no games)
so I am of course going to wait a bit more before I make up my mind, but for now I can't say I'm blown away.

what worries me is how bigger companies struggle to keep secrets nowadays... you lose the element of surprise (can't believe I am saying that after the last debate haha)
I mean nobody's ever surprised anymore when Apple makes keynotes, nobody's surprised anymore by Nintendo's announcements either because everything gets leaked to the press early on - in this particular case I'm talking about that Eurogamers article

at least they managed to keep the name a secret... that name's quite alright IMO, way better than "Wii U"

Looks neat, pretty much what they wanted the Wii-U to be I'm assuming.

Oh, and if it doesn't make that snapping sound when I remove the console from the bay, I'm gonna be really really disappointed.

Don't get this mindset, especially since it would be more optional this time around. Basically saying, less features are better. Kind of like Apple's missing headphone jack. Pretty silly.
Less is more, motion controls + touch cost $$$ for gimmicks (either makes the console cost less or have better hardware where it matters). I'll always defend the iphone losing the jack and sticking to 1 port because it: A. Makes it more water proof B. Encourages innovation. If nobody takes the leap then nothing will change. I'm all for a cordless world.

Touchscreen and motion controls give different ways to play, which encourages innovation.
A. Can be done with the headphone jack. B. Can be done with the headphone jack. "Cordless world" is also a gimmick that cost $$$. If less is more and creates so much innovation, then Apple should take away the touchscreen next.

To be honest, I was somehow predicting a "official" console like the switch.
I own a GPD XD, and, even if the hardware is inferior, the concept is similar: I can play anywhere and connect it to a tv anywhere with a hdmi cable.
I can connect as many gamepad as I want via bluetooth, and the same could be done with a NVIDIA tablet or similar devices.
Maybe Nintendo made a similar evaluation, cause I thought this way of gaming was very comfortable (play at home and then anywhere else the same games).
I think the concept is very valid, cause the large public does not know devices like the GPD XD and similia (any time people see me playing with it they say things like "what is that? where can I buy one?").
Nintendo is making a good move here.
As for me: I want a "Switch" myself. I think of the potentiality of retrogaming, if Nintendo would make run on it GC or even WII Games.
That thing, hacked, would be golden.
And not hacked, it would be a nice portable-home console hybrid, and honestly I always preferred the 3DS and the NDS to the WII and WIIU game library.

No anti aliasing on 1080p and still not a stable framerate so i don't see how this can compete with newer consoles. Also one of the reasons 3th party devs supported the 3ds was because it sold Well on that platform and games were generally Lower in cost so i don't see this getting the Same support the 3ds got. The Wii u also started out with 3th party support and faded over time. I hope it does succeed but i Just don't know. I Just find it sad that the handheld market Will be killed off with this. No More 30 euro titles and well games that could only Be produced for a handheld

I feel like a Nintendo poll on this website is always gonna come out biased. :D
Regarding my opinion, I think that we just don't have enough info regarding specs.

So it's portable and has a touch screen!
How to connect to the internet? does it have LAN/WiFi AND Mobile Data connection?

If so, i can already see it, next Pokemon game on the Switch -> Pokemon GO
But then it would also need a GPS ;)

(I'm just hyping for all those Pokemon GO players ;) )

In a way, less features are better. Vita is loaded up with all sorts of extras, but nobody is ever raving about them. At the end of the day people just want a straightforward gaming console with a straightforward controller. Unless you can perfect whatever additional feature it is you were going for, people will be more skeptical than anything. Example: we're just now getting perfect 1:1 motion controls with the Vive, so Wii jumped the gun on that technology considerably, and motion plus took a long while to release, not being anywhere near perfect even when it did. Ninty has always been ahead of their time, but occasionally way too far ahead of their time, such as with Virtual Boy.

You give people a console with full 1080p support, first-party Nintendo games, third-party devs coming from both Nvidia and Nintendo, and I guarantee it'll sell. You don't need any additional features, because at that point you'd just be detracting from the essentials.

I'm pretty sure more people would be "raving" about them, if Vita was more successful. Not that I think features have to necessarily be raved about to be good and enjoyed.

I disagree that additional features detract from the "essentials". In fact, it only adds. With that mindset, we wouldn't add anything new.

I dont know why people are complaining about BotW's fps on handheld mode when the videos looks so obviously pasted on post production. Im pretty fucking sure Ninty knows how to run their games with a smooth fps, let a lone a Zelda game at that.

The vast majority of innovation in gaming comes from the software side, not hardware. It's fine if Nintendo wants to do something new on occasion, but people have been asking for another straightforward console from them for years now. Just about everybody has a touchscreen on their phones, we don't need feature parity across all devices. That's when people start viewing at least one of those devices as redundant and unnecessary.

Supporting mobile data would be pretty neat actually, if used with location aware games. The downside is mobile plans (In the UK anyway) dont allow you to share your data / minutes / texts between multiple sim cards. So you'd have to take another data plan out just for the Switch.

I guess you could tether from a mobile phone, certainly not as convenient though.

Disagree. I think they both equally help in innovation. Don't need feature parity, yet people keep going on about another straightforward console from Nintendo. So because phones have them, that mean other devices shouldn't? Makes no sense. I guess consoles should stop supporting controllers because about anyone can get a controller for their PCs.
