Just want to make sure if this: refurbished wiis can still be modded, right? Didn't know if they were on their own firmware or something.

Thanks. I still have to do a bit of research but i never really seemed to figure out the purpose of cIOS, especially when things like usbloader have seemed to run fine regardless of which one.The most a refurbished Wii would have is the latest system menu. The boot1 flaw can't be fixed and Letterbomb should always work with 4.3.

Got it. Does any work cause i remember hearing a while back certain ones would only work in certain ways (cios 38 i believe could only access periphiral controllers or something like that), yet they would also work on other cioses. Not to mention ive had games like GH6 install "updates" (which i heard just wipes ios 249), yet i see usbloadergx and other things use it with no issue. Im just looking for clarificationIn order to load Wii games from a HDD the IOS they're running under has to be patched to redirect the disc reads to the hard drive instead. If you tried to load a Wii game with any USB loader without a cIOS it would just reset the console when the game couldn't access the disc.

got it. do they all have to be installed to different IOSes for something like usbloader GX(249, 250, and 251)? or just all on the same IOS?If you're using d2x cIOS IOS56>57>58 in that order should cover most anything. If you use the Wii installer app you can patch almost any IOS. For example, it doesn't seem like Animal Crossing works with a keyboard with any of those so creating a new cIOS as base 38 will get it to work as that's the IOS it's built to target.
Summary: d2x base 56 works for almost any title, base 57 works for problem ones like the Call of Duty/Just Dance titles, base 58 works for some remaining ones. Any others should work if you use a patched version of their target IOS. (Wii Backup Manager can tell you which one they load under.)

got it. thanks. Also, one final question regarding my own wii: it refuses to load gamecube games through the disc channel, but loads them just fine through nintendont and 'boot GC disc in drive'. I heard that replacing the mios would be necessary, but would this mess with nintendont? The current recommended install is d2x as IO249[56], IOS250[57], IOS251[58] (this one is optional). If d2x v8 works for you you should use it as it's the last stable release. If it doesn't work with your HDD try v10 beta52. The "alt" beta53 is only useful if you need to use a different USB port other than the first (USB0) one for your loader HDD. It has problems with some EmuNAND titles and may interfere with games that use non-Nintendo USB peripherals.

(also, just noticed your signature, and is there any particular reason why not to use a usb flash drive over a hdd? Im currently using one, yet I had no issues with it so far.)
Got it. Anything I need to do since I don't use DIOS MIOS other than redownload stock?Older DIOS MIOS will block the disc channel from playing GC games. 2.11 fixed that. DM or stock MIOS doesn't affect Nintendont. It only needs an unpatched IOS58. If you have DM and want to go back to the real MIOS you can downloaded RVL-MIOS-V10 with ModMii.
If your drive works that's fine. Many don't, especially when attempting to write to them on the console.
1. Are you booting off of an external drive?Maybe someone can help me figure this out. So I'm trying to use Riivolution to get customs on Disney Sing It Party hits working (cause nobody has attempted it before). I got the files to show up, so the song shows up normally with the video during the song selection, preview and thumbnail, but when I try to actually go to play the song, I get a black screen. I can't seem to think of what is causing it, since I followed the paths correctly and the same file types.
1. Are you booting off of an external drive?
2. is it a standalone mod or a rom?
I had customs for guitar hero and I had to modify the rom for it, and in the end, I just ended up using usbloadergx since wiifloader was unstable as hell.
Ok then what I said isn't relevant since its more of a mod through the wii like project m rather than a direct game modification like mine. (plus its vWii, I haven't used vWii before)No I'm using my own disc for the game. I would say it's standalone, since I didn't modify the actual disc, or do it through an iso. I'm not sure if I'd be able to get it working on USB loader gx since it's a game that requires a mic and specific IOS settings for it (using vWii since my disc drive on actual Wii no longer works).
