Well my kids couldn't care less what IGN thinks or what everyone's personal opinions are. They absolutely love this game and are having a blast playing it. I'll admit it has a different feel than the previous Mario Party titles, but after an hour or so of playing it myself, it definitely starts to grow on you. The minigames are quite fun, and are called minigames for a reason. Sorry they don't hold your short attention span ksponge, these types of games aren't for everyone. There are a ton of different play modes that we are still figuring out and I don't foresee us getting bored with this title any time soon. Above all, it boasts some great multiplayer fun (for at least 4 people) that has been pretty much absent with other Wii releases thus far (or maybe I just haven't looked hard enough). Anyway, it's not perfect and hopefully Nintendo will learn from their mistakes (widescreen issue, other undiscovered bugs), but it's a pretty fun game that anyone can pick up and instantly have fun with. 8/10 from a gamer dad w/ kids.

I'm enjoying it so far. Haven't tried the single-player game but me, my friends, siblings and cousins have been playing it all day. My only complain is that there aren't that many mini-games... might only last until the weekend LOL... oh well, playing it for free so I won't complain.

Works on NTSC-J Wii.

EDIT:
from the comments in the other thread, this game supposedly blows which is consistent with the last few GC Mario Party games with a stinking score of 5.2. Anyone want to explain why it sucks?

It doesn't suck. IGN's score is way off base, and people in the other thread just like to bitch. According to GameRankings, Yahoo gave this an 80%, GameTrailers gave it an 83, and GamePro gave it a 90.

Oh yes, three sites that guarantee quality. People only hear what they want to hear.

Mark my words: this game will suck ass.

These 4 reviews are the *only* reviews for Mario Party 8 that I have seen, and IGN is clearly the odd one out. How am I hearing what I want to hear?

I played the game for an hour an a half last night and I thought it was really good. Whereas you haven't played it, yet still feel like talking out your ass. Mark my words: you have no idea what you're talking about.

If people don't like the game, then that's cool. But I really don't know why so many people are deciding to bad mouth it without even playing it.

HIGHLY unimpressed with Mario Party 8.

Why did I purchase a wide-screen monitor? Apparently to look at pretty banners on the sides.

/sigh

EDIT: Yes, I have it. And, no, I haven't seen reviews for it yet. I come to forums to get reviews (Thank you userbase!). I go to 'ign' type sites for screenshots.

WTF is that thing to the left of wario and beneath DK?!? (boxart)

EDIT: Orc, is that an actual part of Super Paper Mario gameplay or photoshop? If it's in the game, where?

Awful Mario Party title. Half the mini-games are mostly suitable for a monkey with downs. The lack of widescreen support is an impressive first for the Wii, and the AI is incredible easy and can not be changed. Really disappointing. I'll stick with 6 & 7.

You're entitled to your opinion, but I just thought that I'd point out that you're wrong and the computer AI difficulty can, in fact, be changed.

The amount of aliasing is atrocious. I played it on a big 60" Sony LCD tv. Looks like a GC title.

agreed. this game plays and looks SHITE on 50' lcd. the widescreen 'frame' might be the laziest thing i've ever seen from a developer. i would rather play stretched 4:3...

SOME minigames are fun though ie 'kartastrophe'

a 5/10 is not even deserved

I played a round with my sisters, we enjoyed it. From the couch I thought the graphics looked alright on a 40" Samsung LCD HDTV, however those borders really bothered me. First Nintendo game on the Wii that doesn't support 16:9. For shame Nintendo.

I thought Mario Party 7 did widescreen, or maybe it was just stretched...Which I usually hate when the aspect ratio isn't correct but it would probably be fine for this game.

Considering that most people (inc. non-gamers, which is whom Nintendo is trying to market to as well) don't even have an HDTV yet, why would you consider this shameful? Obviously if you play a game in 480i or 480p on a big widescreen, it can and will look like complete ass. Understandable, since Nintendo designed their system to play on the type of TV most people still use - SDTV or EDTV. The media would like people to think everyone has already "made the switch" thanks to all the publicity HDTV gets, but in reality lots of people still use SDTV thanks to the still-high cost of HDTVs. While Sony and MS made their systems HDTV-compatible to get more HDTVs out the door, Nintendo was thinking more about what people have in their homes now, and I think they are already seeing the payoff for this in sales numbers

The thing about fake widescreen borders does sound dumb, however. They remove the 16:9 option, yet the game essentially plays in 16:9 thanks to the fake...............that was quite an odd decision. Maybe they screwed up while programing it and the game's engine doesn't let them add the option for true 16:9. Other than something like that, there doesn't seem be any good reason why they did it that way.

^ Sorry but that is funny how exactly?

Sorry, just thought it was appropriate when "you haven't played it, yet still feel like talking out your ass" as per Spokenrope's quote.

I think what he said was funny in it's own.

it is part of the gameplay, just before you fight the chameleon guy - Francis, i think his name is.

Yup the angry geek chameleon guy.

You can even "buy" a harder difficulty level, though I'm not sure about how easy/hard the AI can play. I think I won't even bother to play single-player.

Anyway, while I agree this game is lacking (in the gameplay dept. though, don't really care much for the graphics.... as I said, I really can't complain for a game that I enjoyed with friends/family for a day that I got for free for just waiting a few hours.
I guess some of you people really were expecting a lot more.
