Yifan Lu Announces HENKaku - A New Native Vita Homebrew Enabler for 3.60.

Earlier today, Yifan Lu, a well-known member of the Vita hacking scene famous for the Rejuvenate hack for the Dev Assistants, has announced that a new (native!) Vita homebrew enabler for the latest firmware version, as of writing (3.60), will be arriving tomorrow at "9:00AM UTC".

The new hack, known as "HENKaku", will require the following:
  • A Vita/PSTV running 3.60
  • A memcard with at least 10MB of free space (internal memory is currently not supported!)
  • An FTP client
  • An internet connection**
**Offline support is now available! Launch the exploit straight from the email app without the need for internet access at all! See the unofficial release thread for more details. (Internet connection still required for installation)

This is a small paragraph of Yifan Lu himself explaining what the properties of this new homebrew enabler does:

HENkaku simply lets you install homebrew as bubbles in LiveArea. It is a native hack that disables the filesystem sandbox. It installs molecularShell, a fork of VitaShell that lets you access the memory card over FTP and install homebrew packages (which we create as VPK files). With vita-toolchain, developers have access to the same system features licensed developers have access to as well as undocumented features that licensed developers cannot use (including overclocking the processors).

The hack has been released at http://henkaku.me ~ Furthermore, the hack is said to be exclusive to 3.60, and there is to be no backports for the time being.

I downlaoded henkaku when it came out so I still have it in the home menu. Does the new update prevent me from activating it in the browser? Am I still able to use it?

You'll be able to get anything that's on the PS Store. So, DLC yes but probably not game updates. I doubt there will be many updates at this stage.

Do the downloaded games from the psn store come pre patched with updates? I never bought games from the psn store, just physical.

My gut feeling is no, I doubt they update the downloadable files whenever there is an update.

Honestly, this is just a compromise you're going to have to make.

I guess I'll leave my vita on 3.60 for a few months to see if the scene grows tremendously with more emulators and apps. If it doesn't I guess I will have to update or buy a new vita or a pstv.

When I transferred Muramasa Rebirth Engl (PS+ title) to my Vita via PS3 (since I'm on 3.51), the game transferred and after that it automatically downloaded a 30mb file While it was still connected to the PS3. I guess that was a game update.

Also you can update games on lower FW Versions (it doesnt need to sign in to PSN). But for DLC and games you need to transfer it with your PS3.

yeah but think of it this way - sony's memory cards are expensive, with blackfin we can use micro sd cards (right?) - so, it wouldn't be so bad to use it to store the games on, so long as with new hacks we don't need to do that authentication stuff via online.
if we could use it like sky3ds, it may be worth the price.

For the QMCA trick, do I need the vita update blocker or no? I never tried this. I have a ps3 on the latest firmware.

The DRM seems to relies on the executable being decryptable.
The license contains the key to it. That's why you need it.
aha ok, so just like 3ds, we can't decrypt it (the eboot) without the key that we only get when we buy the content...?
although - the key would also be present in the cartridge, yes? (unlike 3ds games)
i have a cfw ps3 but i never looked into how it all works (rif files etc)

I still think is dumb the updates for games aren't already on the store server, it should just be already done..

Buy game
Download game
Start game
Get update, quit game, update game
Then play.

It should just be

Download

START PLAYING WITH THE LATEST UPDATE.

The only reason why i can guess this is not the case is that games and update and dlc data are in seperate folders for it to function so that is only reason why it probaly isn't the case.

If you are using a regular Vita you dont need Update Blocker. Just keep the Vita in Airplane mode (if the Vita wants to update check "offline mode" in the QCMA settings).

If you are using a Vita TV however you need Vita Update blocker for syncing over WiFi.

they are update 'patches', which is much nicer than the developers/sony having to push a full update of the game (maybe a few gb big sometimes) - just because of some new dlc, or a little big fix.
unless it's a game breaking bug or something important (like how mario kart comes with 1.1 built in)

Thanks, also, if I want to know how to do the trick, I just search QCMA trick on google and it will give me a guide on how to do it? Another question, is it true sony will ban me for using henkaku? I used TNV previously for 2 months and never got banned.
