Yifan Lu Announces HENKaku - A New Native Vita Homebrew Enabler for 3.60.

Earlier today, Yifan Lu, a well-known member of the Vita hacking scene famous for the Rejuvenate hack for the Dev Assistants, has announced that a new (native!) Vita homebrew enabler for the latest firmware version, as of writing (3.60), will be arriving tomorrow at "9:00AM UTC".

The new hack, known as "HENKaku", will require the following:
  • A Vita/PSTV running 3.60
  • A memcard with at least 10MB of free space (internal memory is currently not supported!)
  • An FTP client
  • An internet connection**
**Offline support is now available! Launch the exploit straight from the email app without the need for internet access at all! See the unofficial release thread for more details. (Internet connection still required for installation)

This is a small paragraph of Yifan Lu himself explaining what the properties of this new homebrew enabler does:

HENkaku simply lets you install homebrew as bubbles in LiveArea. It is a native hack that disables the filesystem sandbox. It installs molecularShell, a fork of VitaShell that lets you access the memory card over FTP and install homebrew packages (which we create as VPK files). With vita-toolchain, developers have access to the same system features licensed developers have access to as well as undocumented features that licensed developers cannot use (including overclocking the processors).

The hack has been released at http://henkaku.me ~ Furthermore, the hack is said to be exclusive to 3.60, and there is to be no backports for the time being.

I don't there is a demo on the European store that you can download without a PS3.

Just get the cheapest, smallest PSP game that you can find. I'm using World of Pool. Some people are using Minis which are even smaller and cheaper, though they seem to have file size issues.

What homebrew is giving issues with minis?

nothing new about this today ... it's a pity ... ;)
If you want to keep up to date with the daily news of the Vita scene, check Wololo.net daily, as they have a news article regarding Vita hacking almost every single day.

Is there anyway that i don't have to use filezilla to manage files please? I don't understand, if is a ftp, shouldn't any ftp program work?
Well molecularShell is best used alongside an FTP program 90% of the time you are managing files in either the memory card or parts of the NAND, however you could always transfer files via PSP savedata through QCMA and use either my molecularShell mod or SMOKE's molecularShell mod to move the files to wherever you want using the shell only, so long as you are moving them to a writable partition.

Edit: Oh sorry, my bad; I thought you meant you didn't want to use FTP at all.
In that case, WinSCP is an excellent alternative to FileZilla. My own personal preference, just to assure you!

Is there a difference between the two mods?

My mod has access to more partitions through the shell only, whereas SMOKE's mod, for some reason, doesn't have access to places such as tm0: and os0:.

However my mod can't install VPKs because I had a little trouble compiling the molecularShell source. That's why it's installed as a completely new app, and has a different Title ID and name on the Home Screen to differenciate from the original molecularShell.

But you can still access the hidden partitions using an FTP client anyway. Just type in the partition you want to explore in the path field and it will open up the hidden partition.

The neat thing about this hack is that when you get VHBL on your system, you don't even have to have HENkaku active to access it.

Yes any ftp client works. People just recommend Filezilla because it's popular.
I tried others, I tried windows explorer, it lets me browse the files but when i try to copy, it gets stuck at 0% still loading. I tried on my android, using es file explorer, I created new server and it just says "Trying to connect" It does nothing after that until i turn off the Molecule ftp and it says error trying to connect. Only filezilla works, This was never a problem when using 3ds memory card manager or the ftp homebrew apps.

But then no 444 MHZ Just stuck with 333 MHZ or worst. :ninja:

>tfw this exploit doesnt work on my 3.15 Vita.. any particular reason why this is so? I know next to nothing about Vita x3
I can only assume its some new feature thats bugged or something.

That's because Henkaku only works on 3.60! :3

Probably some offsets specific to the 3.60.
That would be a pretty trivial fix though, unless they're worried about piracy safety measures, which is kinda stupid. Might just be a new feature/fix that introduced a bug that didnt exist before.. idk.
I'd rather not try to upgrade though if this fw version has a shot at kernel access.

If I recall correctly, this exploit was discovered way before Henkaku was released, thanks to a vulnerability introduced on 3.60 and not present on previous versions, so... Porting Henkaku to previous firmwares is possible but not worth the time.

I might be wrong in that though.

From what I understand, it's simply because Molecule don't want to have to support multiple firmware versions. yifan_lu says it's possible but somebody else will have to do it when they release the source code in a year.

By which time, we might already have PSP kernel support back anyway, making it irrelevant. I'd say getting PSP kernel access on 3.60 is more important.
