Is there any sort of cheat system for the M3 Lite? I remember looking into Dipstar for a while, but I could never find a decently written guide to make use of it. (I also spent a few hours trying to get it to work, with no success.) Now I see that M3 simply has action replay support, etc. Will this work with the M3 Lite as well?

It is difficult to perform searches on this, due to the whole "M3 is less than 4 characters long, therefore, we cannot process your search." issue. I read through the first 2 or 3 pages of the M3 adapter forum, hoping that this was a common question, but I did not see anything.

So my question: What is the best way to use cheat codes on the M3 Lite? How do I use this method/where can I find documentation on it?

the only way to cheat on a M3 lite is to use dipstar or a trainer such as though made by bleep and cracker.

Ah, ok. Looks like I have to go back to dipstar then. :'(

Are there any good resources for getting dipstar to work? (A tried and true working method.) I remember reading a post with 100 messages each having their own way of doing it. (I tried 5 different ones, which never worked, then assumed that no one knew what they were talking about.) ((Note: That was on a different set of forums.))

I was hoping that, a year later, someone might have actually found an effective way to get dipstar to work, but I have not been able to find anything yet. I will keep searching though.

If anyone knows how to get dipstar working on an M3 Lite, or can point me to a good Dipstar resource, it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks again.

I finally figured it out and got it working. I had to combine 2 guides that I found to get it to work.

You know, if there were enough requests for it, I would be willing to write a guide outlining exactly what I did. (A.K.A. combining the working parts of the other two guides.)

...but, if I was the only person unable to use dipstar, then it would be kind of pointless.

Hello,

I can assure you that you aren't the only one having trouble with dipstar.

But I don't think that making a guide for only one person is usefull...

Anyway, could you start with the url of those 2 guides? ^^

Thanks.

Well, I meant I would write a guide, guiding a person how to use dipstar. But, I would use a specific game and take everyone step by step through the process. Sure, it is game specific, but I think actually getting one game to work will give people confidence/help them understand how to actually use dipstar.

But anyway, as requested, here are the 2 guides that I followed. They are different guides, (Even for different hardware.) but I was able to get it to work using them.

Anyway, if I get enough requests, I will definitely make a guide.

http://www.dualscene.net/vb3/showthread.php?t=159 (First post. I did not read anything else in that thread.)

http://forums.r4ds.net/archive/index.php/t-229.html (First post. I did not read anything else in the thread.)

Put those together, and you are in business.

The game I got it to work with was Harvest Moon DS. I got the functioning cheats from here:

http://www.funtopia.nl/cgi-bin/forumscript...BekijkOnderwerp

Specifically, I used the master code and the money cheat. I assigned the codes to the "select" button.

Everything worked great. Got into the game, and had 99999999 money.

Anyway, it is an excellent proof of concept.

EDIT: P.S. I used this on an M3 Lite SD.

EDIT2: Oh, and I misread your post. Thought you meant I would be writing the guide only for myself.

Did not occur to me that you meant writing it only for you might not be that useful. Reading comprehension at its finest.

The reason I want to write a guide is because all of the other guides ended up sucking due to no one actually writing a guide, but referring people to other places. Then, people would read various things, ask various questions, then it would turn into a 100 post piece of crap full of people's *THEORIES* on how things should work, as opposed to a solid guide.

I got more than pissed off when searching for this stuff a long time ago. I do not want to be like the jerks who screwed everything up by making up theories and telling everyone to "google it."

EDIT: Now I want to figure out how to convert action replay codes to dipstar. I ran across something called AR Crypt, but again with the whole "no one will write a guide, but will be more than happy to make things up while also informing you that google has the answer."

Sorry for the triple posting/etc.

While I did combine those guides, I found that there were a few things not mentioned in the guides that will make things run a little smoother. But, it is totally optional, so I will not mention it. Do not want to confuse things.

I posted a step-by-step guide for using dipstar with the G6 in this thread: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=39156 (second post)

Using dipstar on a slot 2 M3 should be almost exactly the same process, but with different buttons. If you already know how to use dipstar with an M3, you could probably convert that guide for the M3 quite easily.

The only action replay codes that can be used with dipstar are the ones beginning with 0, 1 or 2. Every code needed for any particular cheat must start with 0, 1, or 2. Master codes cannot be converted.

To convert AR codes for dipstar:
If a code starts with 0, change the 0 at the beginning of the code to 2.
If a code starts with 1, it will work as-is.
If a code starts with 2, change the 2 at the beginning of the code to 0.

In regards to the AR codes to dipstar conversion, do you know that works 100% as in, have you done it successfully? I ran across that during my searches, but never heard of anyone getting it to work.

I did come across ndsconvert which, from what I understand, is part of hasteds. I have not tried it out. But it appears to be tools that were created by the same person who made dipstar. There is both a mastercode finder and a code converter.

Anyway, I will take a look at your guide and see if it matches what I did.

Ok, I read through it, and like you said, it looks very similar to what I did. But, with the M3 (doing it the way you did it), you always get a warning message every time your DS powers on, saying that it cannot find the correct place to save.

Loading the dipstar.ds.gba through the manager software alleviated this problem. Note however that I uploaded in gba mode. (Did not alter any options.)

Another thing to note is that, even if you copy dipstar.ds.gba directly to the flashcard (Not using the game manager) everything will still work, you just get the "cannot save nag" everytime you boot up your m3.

Rephrased: You can follow DestructoBot's guide to the letter, and get it working. (I think everything except, instead of hitting "x" to start the game, you have to hit "a". But that is a common sense kind of fix.)

Yes, I've tried it and it works. The 0 at the beginning of the code tells dipstar to write an 8 bit value to memory, 1 tells it to write 16 bits, and 2 tells it to write 32 bits. On action replay codes, 0 is for 32 bit writes, 1 is for 16 bit writes and 2 is for 8 bit writes.

The action replay also has various other types of codes that use different values as the first character, but none of those are supported by dipstar.

Ok, cool. That makes sense.

So I guess the hard part is getting functional master codes for dipstar.

I think the reason why I was never able to get dipstar to work before is because I was trying to use it on Lost Magic. (Which apparently, no one can get to work.)

So, I guess my last question/research project, is to find out how to make master codes (which I think ndsconvert can do). Either that, or find a large database of them. I ran across a few websites, but none of them had a spectacular list of codes.

ndsconvert, from what I skimmed through before, looks like it can generate many master codes. I assume that not all of those will work, so some trial and error is likely involved. (I used to hack codes for the N64 back in the day. Master codes were teh suk. Especially when donkey kong 64 came out.

How to find master codes, courtesy of dsrules: http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=38605

dsrules probably has more experience with dipstar than anyone else here. Check out the list of topics he's started and you'll find codes for a bunch of good games.

Anyway, glad to help.

Most of the info about dipstar on the internets is either wrong, or it looks like it was written by drunken 6 year olds. Using dipstar really isn't that complicated, but with the "instructions" that you find most places, it's no wonder so many people can't get it working.

Awesome information. Thank you very much.

Looks like Lost Magic only works with Dipstar 3.33. I wonder if it is possible to have 2 versions of dipstar running on the ds. You would almost have to if you used dipstar for many games. (Or atleast have multiple instances of it running.)

I think I will try to find version 3.33 of dipstar, and install it alongside of the latest version of dipstar. I am hoping that if I rename one of the dipstar files, it will remain seperate from the newer dipstar version.

Again, thank you very much for the information. You have been a great help.

...actually, after searching for the older version of dipstar for a while, I remembered doing this before, and how it is impossible to find the older version.

...unless it is in the internet archives. *to the internet archives.*

Edit: I found it AND version 2 in the archives. But when I downloaded v3.33 it gave an error, but it looks like most of the files are intact. I just hope the important ones are ok. Going to try using v3.33 now. Wish me luck.

Version 3.33 did work with lost magic. Just need to try installing the other version of dipstar and see if they can both be on.

This site has no less that 11 versions of dipstar available for download: http://www.funtopia.nl/library/dipstar.html (Google comes through again)

There should be no problem using multiple versions of dipstar. Just rename them to dipstar_5.12FF.ds.gba, dipstar_3.33.ds.gba and so on, then load the one you need for the particular game you want to cheat on.

...I feel horrible now.
