I did the format and use the R4 gold 1.64 and i still get the 2 white screen and nothign load. About to drop 9 buck to get a working cart but wang to do it oen mroe time ebfore i am sure my cart is bricked.

i downloaded the RGF YSMenu as per your suggestion, then downloaded the "already hex-edited" R4.dat i found somewhere, placed it in my SD and i can now play DS games on my 3DS (yay!).

the YSMenu looks a lot cleaner than the default from the website. when you said "better than the standard ones", you mean the original non-RGF ysmenu is different too?

There isn't any difference on a graphical standpoint. The difference is the support for games and cheats.

None. The only thing different is the branding of the carts. They are all the same.

There are two folders with R4i in the name, "GEi_R4i YSMenu" and "R4i-SDHC YSMenu" which one for the cart in the picture?

Also I own a Supercard DStwo for myself, should I use YSMenu instead of the default for that too?

Hmm since there's already a thread for it. Even though the for this R4i Gold PRO 2016 says it supports fw 11.0 on the 3ds, will I be able to use it for ds games? http://www.r4i-3ds.nl/r4i-gold-pro.html. Normally I wouldn't really mind buying the ds games since they're cheap, but the ones I want to play go retail for 90 bucks and used 60-70.

What's up with all the people suggesting DSTWO? It's overpriced and drains your battery. Just get an r4igold or acekard2i which as 100% compatibility with DS games and romhacks for $50~60usd cheaper. For GBC/GBA/SNES/NES games just use virtual console and injects because the 3DS emulator is much better than the DSTWO emulator.

I personally have got my kids a R4i-Gold each (http://www.cheapr4i.com/r4i-gold-3ds-rts-for-3ds-3ds-xl-2ds-dsi-dsi-xl-p-184.html), same as what everyone here is suggesting and while the functionality etc is great, I do find the fit to be a bit crap in a 3DS XL. Much better in their DSi's but in their 3DS XL's and my 3DS XL the fit is a bit awkward, it needs pushing right in for it to 'click' and lock in, feels like it's being pushed further than it should be to be honest.
Apart from that though I very much recommend it.

I have ace3DS, and it seems to work fine. i know its some sort of a R4 clone, should i dump it and get a R4i Gold instead? i dont want to deal with DS flashcarts again after my acekard 2 died :'(

Sorry for reviving thread-corpses!

The topic just came to my interest.

Are the recommondations in this thread still up to date?
I´m looking for a flashcard to play NDS Games on 3DS using forwarders, to boot the games directly from Home Menue.
There is also a focus on power consumption. Already have a SuperCard DSTwo which is not compatible to the forwarder creation tool and have terrible power consumption.
I own a R4iSDHC Gold Pro with timebomb (agreed, i should have read a little more carefully and spent 3$ more to avoid...)

Now i´m looking for the best longterm solution to handle this.
Looking forward to your answers and recommondations!

Go for the Supercard DS2. Really like the card, it just works.
For 3DS games and sometime in the far future go for Stargate 3DS.

R4i Gold 3DS RTS. You can flash NTRBootHax with it, and it does not have a time bomb.

I´m already on CWF, so no need to flash NTRBootHax or support for 3DS Roms.
Just looking for a way to use [NDS] Forwarder CIAs for your HOME Menu (from the 3DS Tutorials section of this Forum)
with the best compatibility and most solid battery lifetime possible.

In the release Thread a DSTT or Acekard 2i is recommended. I´ve already read about that cards on the first pages
of this tread. Depending on that, are there new findings to go with higher compatibility or more battery lifetime?

edit/ @goldensun87: sorry, i just realized, that the card have to be NTRBootHax compatible for the forwarder also.
