Creating 3D Banners from 3D Models
THIS IS A W.I.P
This was made because of the huge lake of TRUE 3D banners.
This guide will only go over the basic way of doing it because the other way involves using the NW4C, but you can still make some cool banners. The steps during this can get confusing, and I'm trying to make them clear, but I don't expect you to be that guy and learn to model and make banners in one day. If it put something in this guide that shouldn't be there(Such as links to illegal stuff(wich there shouldn't be in this guide)) PLEASE TELL ME AND ILL FIX IT AS SOON AS I CAN!

What you need

Making the model
  1. Start up your modeling program.
  2. Create the 3D model using the program and make sure it follows the rules below.
    • Your model MUST follow theses rules!
    • There must be only one object, which means you must combine all objects into one!
    • The object should be named "COMMON".
    • DO NOT use models with a lot of polys.
  3. UV map your model and make sure it follows the rules below.
    • Your UV map MUST follow theses rules!
    • There may only be one UV texture!
    • There must be no Alpha textures.(You can try to use alpha, I could not get it to work though)
    • The UV map's name must be "COMMON"!
  4. When you are done all that your model should be like this

  5. Now export it as OBJ with MTL but make sure that tesselation is set to Triangulation, or you will have errors in the future.
  6. You should now have something like this

  7. Congrats now you can convert it to a CGFX!
Converting the model to a CGFX
  1. Open Every File Explorer.
  2. Select File > New from File > Nintendo 3DS Plugin > CTR Graphics (CGFX)
  3. Select your model
  4. When it asked you for a model name type in "COMMON"
  5. Select File > Save
  6. Save it anywhere as anything
  7. Open the location where you saved it and rename the ending to .cgfx
  8. Open Ohana Rebirth
  9. Drag the .cgfx model on to it
  10. If you now see your model you have made a working CGFX which you can use with bannertool and makerom!

You don't just put "Creating", then make the thread, and then write the whole tutorial from the 'edit text' window. That's not how it works. You write the tutorial, then post the thread.

Ah, I forgive you then. :)

Remember to name every material and texture to commonXX (XX is a number)
Also, if you want a texture to be displayed in a specific language, change its name to the language you want. Ex: EN01, ES01, JP01
(For non rotating parts, you'll need NW4C, bones and billboarding)

I'm working on it today life just got in the way of it. Sorry if where wondering where the guide whent.

Ooh, I hope that this will cover animations and such!
Sadly no you can only do basic ones. To do ones with cool 3D animations you need the CTR-SDK but you can still make some neat banners. Any way even if I could my computer can't run maya and I don't know how to use it :3 only blender and Wings3D

Are you going to finish this?
Yes I am!

I'm Gona try to keep to keep it simple I may add it in also you don't need to name everything common just need to make sure the model and uv map are called common

That's nice, I should try it some time ! :yay3ds:

Would you know what's the difference between fixed and rotating elements ? I mean, when you blow inside the 3DS's mic, most official 3D banners have elements that bounce up&down while others rotate, would you know how I can reproduce this behaviour ?

When you make a banner following the guide you will get a rotating banner that when you blow in the mic to goes up/down to make a fixed/animated/dynamic banner you need the N4C(CTR-SDK) which is not allowed here. Even if it was my laptop can't run maya(witch is needed to do it) nor do I know how to use it :3

I'll look into it today, I'm just extremely busy most of the time. And I will be posting my example model with this guide if you want to look at it.

Also I'm looking for a BBcode editor :3
