I'm getting this message on a 128GB SD Card formatted to FAT32 64k cluster. Works fine if I format to FAT32 32K cluster. I tried all the suggestions on in this post.

i have one trick for you. i used EaseUS Partition Master Changed it the disk from logical to primary formatted to FAT32 64k cluster and done! work perfect!

Using diskpart in Windows to clean the sd first should also work fine from an elevated command prompt. Plenty of tuts on google, no need to format the sd at the end just use the Windows gui formatter that's floating around afterwards as usual.

I just spent all day yesterday and all night copying to a new 128GB SD. I keep getting SD Mount Failed and found this through google. Well this bites the big one. Guess I won't be playing for another 24 hours. :(

Thanks guys, I tried a 32gb and a 128gb (previously linux dual partitions), deleted partitions, created new ones and formatted with guiformat and others using FAT32 and 64/32 clusters and they just would not work!

Tried the panasonic tool then guiformat (both quick format) in a vague hope and they both worked fine. What magic is the panasonic tool doing???

Has anyone with OSX attempted this?

I've tried:
1. Using Panasonic SD formatter first
2. Running command:
Code:
sudo newfs_msdos -F 32 -v wiiu -c 128 /dev/disk2s1

After doing step 2, it shows an error stating that The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer.

Edit:
never mind, could not get it working with OSX for some reason. Found an old SD card adapter and used Panasonic SD formatter first, then fat32formatter.exe -c128 E:.

it works fine on computer?
You said it doesn't mount in loadiine GX2, but does it work with Homebrew launcher or with ftpiiU?

You could try to reformat it with Panasonic SD formater (it will make it exfat as there's no option in that program to choose the format, it's said to format it correctly, not sure if proven).
Then try formatting it back to FAT32. You could try 32k/cluster too.

Thanks! this worked on a 16 GB SD card

To use SD Cards or Micro SD Cards with adapters with Loadiine, I recommend only using Ease US Partition Master for formatting, other programs are fine if they can format larger cards to Fat32

Smaller cards 32gb or less should work well as they are usually Fat32 format
  • it is always a safe bet to format it anyway to Fat32 anyways just in case there are errors for some odd reason
Larger cards 64gb or more work as well, however they usually are not in Fat32 format
  • Format the card to Fat32
  • Change the drive type from "Logical" to "Primary"
In summary, if your card is still popping up as "SD Mount Failed" these are your steps
  1. Pop out your SD Card from your Wii U
  2. Pop it into your computer
  3. Make sure the card is Fat32, if larger than 32gb make sure the drive type is "primary" not "logical"
  4. Make sure you have everything on your SD card root in the proper folders i.e. E:\wiiu\apps\homebrew_launcher
  5. Check it for Errors with your Native Windows tools or Mac tools
  6. Pop your SD Card back into your Wii U
  7. Succeed

If you are still having "SD Mount Failed", you might have problems with your SD Card or adapter, I have not experienced any problems in which cluster size was the issue. Larger cards are more likely to give you problems, but if you followed my steps, you should be fine

To ensure you get the best results, I would also recommend using AT MOST 32gb SD Cards, you run less risks of problems with formatting, errors, etc, and there isn't a game that needs more than 32gb space to install backups anyways.

This is an old thread, but I'm just here to say @Cyan 's advice worked for me. Bitlocker and Wii U SD Cards do not mix--reformatting with EaseUS or Guiformat alone did nothing, kept getting -4 on CBHC and 'Please insert Fat32 SD Card' on the web sploits. Using Panasonics SD Formatter + just a quick guiformat made it readable again.
