Updating from rxTools to Luma3DS

Follow https://3ds.guide to install Boot9strap, the latest and best setup you can have. It's super easy to setup, highly recommended to make the switch. Stop using EmuNAND and menuhax!!
Also, there's a step in the guide that has you move EmuNAND to sysNAND. So you won't lose any of your stuff in the end.

If you want personal one on one help with the process, send me a PM or let me know in a reply. It's also much quicker with my help than doing it on your own.

Is there a way to update from a very very old version of rxTools?
I have a small 3DS with firmware 4.2 and one of the first rxTools (from about one year ago). I guess if I replace the .dat and then launch the old browser exploit would launch Luma, right?
No, check out the Plailect guide and click on the link in the Table of Contents for 9.2.0 update.

After completing this guide, I had successfully installed Luma....However, every time I boot up, it asks me to configure the CFW -.-
Any help?

if you are having problems with boot.cfg then you should try updating ctrbootmanager HERE
Thanks, it works and lead me to other issue.
Now after ctr's purple screen countdown, there was greeting configuration once. I've selected show current nand then pressed strat.
The screens turns to black. So I turn it off and on, after the ctr, it's always black screen.
I think I must did something wrong. So I redo them all, copy luma folder, copy 3DSLuma.3ds dat, edit boot.cfg and reboot.
It's still black. Pleas help me

Edited: It caused by my stupidity. I download and put Luma-dev files on 3ds. I just redo them again and it works. However, changing from rxtools to luma made my installed games unplayable. I've uninstalled them and reinstall. Hope it works. Thanks a lot

How do I check the firmware version?
I know that's a very noob question, but that's because I bought an used 2DS already with RxTools, so idk anything about it.

If I were you, I'd setup Arm9loaderhax on it. But since you're fresh to the 3ds scene, might not be so easy. Even though it's already made to be simple.

But anyways, you check the firmware version in system settings

My version is 9.2.0-20U, so I guess I can install Luma 3DS without problems.

What are the advantages of Arm9loaderhax in comparison to Menuhax + CTR Boot Manager, apart from (much) faster boot time and 100% boot success rate? I'd try installing A9LH, but I'm afraid I can't backup the sysNAND because I don't have a Gateway flashcard and I don't wanna end up screwing up my console. Or is there a way to backup the sysNAND without GW and that I don't know about?

You can use decrypt9 to backup sysnand without a GW console. The tools in the guide will make a backup automatically when you perform the CTRTransfer.
