For the longest time I didn't do it because I didn't mind waiting several more seconds to load my system and I liked having emunand. After a while though the process to retrieve your otp matured and I decided to update a few days ago.

For anyone curious.. no you don't need to make a crap load of backups. The only backups you should make is of the sysnand/emunand you plan on using. Since I only ever used my emunand I only needed to back that up. The only reason you would make multiple backups is if you don't mind re-doing steps in case something fails... badly.

Also you can update/uninstall AL9H after if you ever decide to do so. Just keep in mind if you do you won't be able to install it again unless you're able to run homebrew.

I don't want to loose the games i already have installed in my SD Card. My 3DS has emunand and RXTools installed. I can't find the exact procedure i must follow to avoid loosing my games. Maybe when we have an easier process to install ARM9LH.

On Plailect's guide home page:
If everything goes according to plan, you will lose no data and end up with everything that you started with (games, NNID, saves, etc will be preserved).

On the next page (Get Started):
9.0.0 - 9.2.0 (with an existing CFW): change menuhax to type 1, set your menuhax trigger to D-Pad down, then start the guide at Part 4. Note that anywhere "RedNAND" is mentioned, you can pretend it says "EmuNAND" instead as they are very similar and the instructions will be the same other than that.

Where exactly did you read that you'll lose your current data?

I've a question:

I haven't bothered with A9LH yet, but I've been perusing the guide and I got to a part that bothers me to some extent. It says that if I have made any TWL_Firm replacements I should restore the originals.

Well I've replaced these two iirc:

0004800F484E4841

0004013800000102

And I forget what else I did at the time for GBA compatibility. So if I've lost track of these things, is there a fool proof method to make sure everything is back to its original state? Worth noting that I've done these things to SysNAND & EmuNAND where applicable. Unfortunately it's been so long I simply don't remember everything.

help? I have a9hl set up on my JAP n3ds. I also have a USA emunand. Today I extracted my emunand from the SD card, via the emunand tool. And moved away all SD files. Used emunand9 to format my SD card with emunand. Then I reimported my emunand backup, moved all my files back. But now, when I enter my emunand, All files/games/themes are no longer there. Any ideas? And all files are still in my SD card. The Nintendo 3DS folder still only has 2 files. from from my Jap cfwsysnand, and the USA emunand.

NVM I got it fixed. Under the Nintendo 3DS filder, main folder was kept the same, but it created a new sub folder. Simply by renaming the old sub folder with the same name as the new sub folder, fixed the issue

And after 2 months and 11 days, your wish came true. The newest A9LH fork of aurora wright has a mini luma cfw with signature patches and firm protection built into the NAND!
Alright, so you can boot without an SD card. But why on earth should someone want this? Using a 3DS without an SD card is pretty useless imho. But maybe I am missing the point here.....

If the SD reader stops working you will have essentially a paperweight but if you install this, you can still play cartridge games on the console at least.

What is your global setup and what are you trying to achieve? Did you create an EmuNAND at some point?

tbh i'm happy with what I have. Currently running normal ds games on 3ds. I'd much rather be able to play gba games and 3ds games on it but i'm not sure what flash cart to use and stuff. Been reading around and its all looking confusing. I have changed the memory card inside it and put a 32gb one in it so I can download games from the e-store as I didnt have enough space for some of them.
