Just wondering whether someone has the latest version for this game? I have v2.1 so far but couldn't get online.
That's the latest version, but you also need to be on the latest 3DS firmware to go online too. If you have both of those, I don't know why you can't go online.

Ah I didn't know that I will have to be on the latest 3DS firmware to enjoy multiplayer. Unlike other games like Pokemon I can get online just by updating the game instead of firmware. I'm still on v9.2.

Just wondering how does the Online Jam session works? Do you notice any lag when playing with others?

hi~ i bought about 600+ songs myself,
then i use the tools "minidegausser v0.2.exe"
combine the songs you provided,
now i have over 1218+ .bbp songs..
i want to share them all ... here is it:

Oh my gosh I really appreciate your effort for sharing these! It must costs a fortune just to purchase them, seeing that these songs are only purchasable using the Tomato currency. Wonder how long it would take to even browse through all of these songs!

With these massive songs, it's just too bad that the game doesn't allow us to filter by genre, like Anime BGM, Game BGM, Classical, J-Pop and what not. Is there any limit on how many songs the game can store?

list of songs that can't be imported with Neobeo wonderful 3ds homebrew
As mentioned, the homebrew doesn't import custom songs. In theory, this isn't actually difficult to do; I just got lazy because it required having to decompress the song and then recompress it. Feel free to make changes and make a pull request on github though, if you're up for it.

Is there any interest in localizing the game to make it friendlier to newer players? I am a graphic designer and would be willing to redo all the graphics with japanese text to english. I know there are other localization projects for the 3DS, but I haven't had the time to dive into the tools. If anyone is interested in forming a group I think it would help make this game more attractive for new players.
I am definitely interested in doing this. My japanese has gotten kind of rusty so I probably can't help much there. But my specialty is in reverse engineering, though it looks like it uses fairly straightforward (well-documented) file formats anyway. That said, a large proportion of the data is in the updates anyway. I haven't really looked into how other romhacks are doing it.

Is there any limit on how many songs the game can store?
There is a hard limit of 3700 both in the size of jb/mgr.bin, as well as the extdata properties. Actually there's more slots in the jb/mgr2.bin, but I haven't figured out how to use those.

Also, if you have gateway and no tomatoes, you can perform a RAM dump to download songs for free (though it's a very tedious process). I'm not sure if any of the other CFWs have the ability to perform a RAM dump yet.

If it can help i used Winmerge, put all your songs in one folder, all gnc140 in another folder, and compared. Then you can copy files from winmerge.
resulted in 578 new song, but degausser told me that 10 songs already existed.
Thanks for the suggestion. This makes it easier!

How do I erase it so that I can restart the process. I got the error and it says abxy.
Quickest way is to delete the Extra Data from the 3DS setting menu.

No lags at all. It's kind of difficult to explain how Nintendo code the online jam session. So there shouldn't be a problem at all.

It is currently impossible to do cross-region online functionality. (unless you REALLY REALLY REALLY know what you're doing AND you delete your NNID and make a new one) You'll need a JPN 3ds.

Edit: Apparently I'm wrong, sweet!

After setting up Luma3DS and update to the latest firmware I now able to get online with the game. Had a jam session with another guy during the wee hour. Just wondering whether the other person will hear what I pressed during the jam? Would like to try with you guys if that's possible :-).

I was curious about it myself, so I'm looking into this.

The textures and language files themselves are pretty darn simple. Text is in .mbst format, which is fairly standard for 3DS games. The graphics are in .arc format. I put them through Ohana, and what did I find?

We can edit the ingame text and graphics very easily.

So yes, to answer your question, editing the rom to make it more English-friendly would be fairly easy.

I'm keen on doing the English translation if there's still room for it :-) First played this game on my NDS Lite and now on 3DS, really like the presentation and online jamming experience :)

Actually, I find it kind of curious they haven't released a new version of the game with the updates preincluded. That would make patching the menus much easier.

Okay. I'm currently going through the Daigasso update and rom, looking for any graphics that happen to have Japanese in them. I'll upload them to MEGA; if you'd like access, then PM me. If someone's interested in doing the text, PM me as well.

PM sent ;-) I'm interested to do the text since that would be the easiest.

It's great to hear that you're willing to purchase and share those with us :-) Looking forward to that. I'm interested mostly in J-Pop, Classical and video game BGM, it's just too bad that they don't allow us to filter or search by genre. It's quite hard to pick songs that I'm familiar with given their vast amount of songs.

P/S: I really like the VS song that you selected.

Thanks to ultramario I'm now working on translating the in game UI text. While translating I noticed quite a few of repeated phrase, not sure when or where they are being referred to as some of the String ID is beyond literal translation.

Just sent a partially translated text, hope most of the text will fit in just about right in the UI such as buttons. Usually Japanese characters are more terse compared to English.

Man i wish i could do that but when i go to github i'm more like 'insert picture of a dog randomly typing on a keyboard'

Regarding ram dump i've seen a topic that may be relevant : https://gbatemp.net/threads/plugin-ntr-ram-explorer.419162/
But it's mentioning "Process dumper" and not ram so i'm not sure.
It's a plugin for NTR CFW.

Finally someone has made a gateway ram tools if that can be of any help: https://github.com/xJam-es/GatewayRAMTools

Guess what I just got working?

Credit for this one goes to @dsync. I haven't been able to get a rom to go past that screen yet, but that's mostly due to my relative incompetence. (I don't know how updates work i'm sorry) Stay tuned.

That's a great start ultramario! Guess I'll continue to do the translation further seeing that you are able to inject the modified .mbst file back into the ROM :-) It's only a matter of time before we can fully load the translated ROM.

Just my two cents, but I guess the game will not check for phrase before deciding to make a new line, that might explain the reason why the Power phrase is split into two lines.

One challenging aspect in the translation is not only the Japanese->English translation itself, but also making sure that the translated phrase can fit nicely into whatever UI is presented (button, dialog box, etc.) Hopefully the injection itself will only minimal effort since we might need to do the check every time we revise the translation.

You're the man! Wonder how does the interface from beginning to song selection and playing with others looks like. I plan to completely translate those most visited interface before moving to e-Shop or any other non essential interface.
