Use Plailect's Guide and update to 9.2.I've been out of the loop for a long time and just want to hack an old 3DS for my young daughter to use, and want it t be kid proof, meaning she can't update it and or brick it w/o doing something with the SD card.
I'm not sure where to be started or what to install, as there seem to be tons of options. I mostly just want to be able to install 3DS and DS games for her to play that we own instead of using the cards that she will lose.
I do have Cubic Ninja, as well as Ocarina of Time 3DS.
On NA O3DS on firmware 8.1.0-19u.

Then follow the rest of the guide. Also no matter what, at this current moment, you will need a DS Flashcart to play DS Backups. Only DSi games can be played on the 3DS via .cia.
I post it in other thread but I think this thread is more active.
Hi,
I succeed installing CFW with the help from this tutorial. Thanks Plailect.
But I still have some queries.
Before I do anything stupid, I think it is best to ask in this forum.
These are some of my question.
1. Can I just login with my NNID now?
2. Am I still able to do transaction from eshop?
3. Can I still play from my original cartridges?
3. If I change the region later, what is the answer for question #1, #2 and #3?
4. With the current condition (before changing the region), I read in FAQs that I am able to play online eventhough I haven't tried it. How about after changing region, can I still play online?
5. If something bad happen, how can I go back to OFW v9.2?
I will follow the additional step from Plailect's Tutorial regarding the region changing.
edit:
I think I forgot my NNID and I have to make a new one, can I just make a new NNID?
Hi,
I have just finished installing CFW via Cubic Ninja for the entry gate.
After going through the tutorial, I am aware that I can press some combinations of buttons to enter some "hidden" menu on 3DS. I can do it when the 3DS is turned off.
Yes it is not that obvious but kids can accidentally push those buttons.
I hope this gives you the gist.
1. Yeah, you can just login into your NNID as normal, if you forgot that info, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to make a new one.
2. Yeah, I've bought stuff of the eshop just fine on my A9LH systems.
3. Yes, you can still play all your original cartridge games, with the added benefit of being able to play out-of-region ones too!
4. If on o3DS, you will have to delete your eshop and unlink your NNID, in other words giving up any rights to your previous purchases. Then you'll be able to region change and still have access to the other region's eshop, be able to setup NNID and be able to make purchases of the eshop. Your original cartridges will probably be now out-of-region cartridges for the region you changed to, but will still work. For N3DS, you will lose access to the eshop, and not be able to use an NNID, however, your original cartridges should still work.
5. Like what? A9LH is there so if you soft-brick you just restore a previous backup via Hourglass9. As for if you must go to a clean OFW 9.2, you'll have to setup the Decryp9.bin payload and flashback a clean non-A9LH 9.2 sysNAND backup. (Which you should have if you kept every backup in the guide.)
Also, those hidden menus are payloads, and you have to launch them at boot time. In other words, while it's off but turning on. If this is a problem, you'll have to setup something like arm9loaderhay, which was created for this, I think.
