Download the latest release of BootAnim9.
Link: https://github.com/wolfvak/bootanim9/releases/tag/0.6.2

1. On your SD Card, rename "arm9loaderhax.bin" (which should be Luma3DS if you followed the guide to the end) to "arm9payload.bin"

2. Extract the contents of the latest BootAnim9 release to your SD Card(which should be a file called "arm9loaderhax.bin" and an "anim" folder with the file "calibrator" inside that folder.)

3. Then move the "arm9payload.bin" inside the "anim" folder, and you should be good to go.

4. Download BootAnimations you want to use from here: https://gbatemp.net/threads/a9lh-bootanim9-animations-thread.420421/
And place them in folders "0", "1", "2", etc up to "9"
Note: You don't have to have 9, you could just have 1, but it'd have to be "0" - I think.

The BootAnim9 thread provides more details.

Last question, I just updated luma using the luma updater, and the animations went away. Any ideas as to why this happens and how to fix this? Thanks!

It's probably the fact that LumaUpdater replaces the BootAnim9 "arm9loaderhax.bin" with an update Luma one.

I'd recommend you use StarUpdater, as it can self-update itself and you can tell it where exactly the luma payload is. (I am aware that the luma updater in the guide can also be told this, but yeah I forgot how to do that.)

Install that. Create an update.cfg file inside the /luma/ with the following.
Code:
/anim/arm9payload.bin

I've also attached a zip with the update.cfg with the above settings.

So, I figured out how to change the file path with the official one, but i cant get the path right. when I launch the official updater, it tells me it found the config, but it says the file path is not right. Here is what is in the config:
Code:
\F:\anim = arm9payload.bin
backup = yes
The file path does not seem to be right. NOTE: I have not tried the updater you suggested because i found out how to change the file path on the official one. I just need help on changing the file path itself. Any help is appreciated. I want it to be in my sd/anim. Thanks.

Hate to break it to you, but that one isn't official, if you're talking about the one used in the guide. And if anything StarUpdater is more official, as Hamcha's updater pulls it's updates from astronautlevel's hourlies site.
And it's even more unofficial as Hamcha never actually really releases a .cia version for it.

But anyways, you could look over the documentation for Hamcha's updater, it should answer your questions on how to set it up.

In part 5, section 2, number 1, i cant get the webpage to load. It just freezes. any ideas? I already restored to 9.2 because it told me to in the guide. However, step 1 in that section says "
  1. Reinsert your SD card into your 2.1.0 3DS"
Do I have to downgrade to 2.1 again to do a full install?

Damn it Plailect. (ONLY JOKING, Love you Plailect~ <3 in a platonic sort of way.~) SIGH. No. Don't, he moved that from part 4, now to part 5. Look at the end of Part 4, and you'll see the 2.1 section isn't there anymore.

Sigh. Anyways, was this the previous revision of the guide you were using? https://github.com/Plailect/Guide/w...hax)/fa98a34b7d988e00c1ead3b535700e97ef71409e

For others reading, if you're using the newly updated guide, continue using it, do not use previous revisions of the guide.

i, too, was done with parts 1-4 yesterday and thought to continue part 5 the next day. BAD TIMING!

And i am also stuck with part 5 and section 2 about that arm11.

No idea how to continue based on the updated guide. Which steps do i need to redo?
