Anyone had black screen AFTER the GW menu?
My setup is no-screeninit A9LH using BootCTR9 to boot GW's payloads and launcher.dat from 4.0a on the root.

Sounds like the same issue I was just talking about 2-3 posts before this.

Do you still have an emuNAND? If you removed it, how? If it wasn't through EmuNAND9's "Format SD (No EmuNAND)", then that's the problem.

No emuNAND here, however I tried to force sysNAND with B getting the same result :/

I used EasyUS Partition Master, I was lazy to recopy 64 GB of content.

Then it sounds like that is your problem. As GW still sees it. All EaseUS does is mark it for deletion and doesnt actually properly fix any mentions to whatever is you resized. I still don't understand why people bother with that tool.

However, How about forcing sysNAND? Which I still get black screen :/

Try holding L when you see the Gateway Dragon, if this works, then you didn't properly remove your emuNAND, and it's still trying to boot into it.
So I'd formatted on my pc thinking it would remove the emunand, but formatting with emunand9 did the trick. All works fine now thank you for the help!

It shows the Gateway setting stuff when I hold L. I formatted the SD card after setting up a9lh but I'll give it another try.
Simply formatting the SD card does not get rid of emunand. Emunand is on a separate partition. If you don't want an emunand, you have to remove ALL PARTITIONS, then do a slow format of the card.

EDIT: TFW you reply to something that has already been solved/replied to :/

Because it works perfectly if you actually know how to use it (and perhaps if you actually own it or have it properly cracked... I never looked at what restrictions it may have in the free/trial mode...)

I don't expect people to properly know how to use those tools. Unless they work in IT or are enthusiasts when it comes to PCs. EmuNAND9 does all the work and gets the job done properly, and you really don't need to know why or how, just that it does. Though if you really want to know why, one could just look at the source and figure it out.

Loving the new Gateway arm9loaderhax bin. Now my 3DS setup is almost ideal for me.

I use arm9select for loading payloads

all A9LH payloads are loaded from payloads folder on mSD/SD root
my default is named CFW.bin (ReiNand 4.1)
l.bin is Gateway (4.0b launcher.dat)
r.bin is Luma3DS (sysNAND mode for GBA)
select.bin is Decrypt9WIP latest commit

The only thing I would like to change at this point requires AGB/TWL patching being added to ReiNand (still holding out hope). At that point I would use ReiNand for all CFW duties and not need r.bin (Luma3DS) anymore as I use emuNAND so I prefer ReiNand.

Edit: It would also be awesome if GW made 2 versions of the launcher.dat (1 with all that the latest open beta contains, and 1 without the downgrade console or A9LH installer for people who already have it (safety reasons really). What do you think?

You should update your wishlist on your signature.

As for me, I just want them to remove the sysNAND nag, or make it an option we can check off.

I was meaning to update my sig and forgot, thanks for the reminder. Also I realize there are many users out there with many forms of launching GW. That is why I suggested the AIO for anyone using others. For most users once they are using their preferred method of launching GW the other options (downgrade console, A9LH installer and even NVRAM install are no longer needed). Not really trying to rock the boat, but it would go a long way in the name of safety and reduce the size of the launcher.dat once you have GW already up and running.

You could hold start on reinand boot to boot into sysnand, that along with patched twl and agb (I think .cia files for both are on that iso site) would let you handle gba & dsiware. Remembering to hold start after done so don't lose the save on the reboot after would be rough, though.

Luma does support boot straight to emunand, though, just have that 'autoboot sysnand' unchecked in options screen. Then you can hold L when you want to boot sysnand (you could shift gw to R.)

@zes, thanks for the reply. I used to have that exact setup, but once luma3DS/AuReiNand introduced AGB/TWL patching I installed the OFW version of AGB (didn't need TWL patching). That is the main reason I keep Luma3DS around. I don't care much for the included chainloader feature of Luma3DS (partly why I made my payloads load from a folder named payloads on mSD/SD). There are alot of awesome extra features for Luma3DS (I just do not require them which is why I would like to use only ReiNand but I like keeping my sysNAND as vanilla as possible). Rei is pretty busy I think with real life stuff and if he never adds AGB/TWL to ReiNand I will survive. I just really prefer ReiNand, so I hold out hope.

The guide says to format twice. You could use FBI.3ds, but you would have to switch between Gateway Mode and Luma since the actual downgrade has to be done with Luma. FBI injection is very easy and for a newb it's better to follow the guide exactly so there's less chances of screwing something up.

Actually, you CAN use GW 4.0 because the firm protection is removed. Also, if you want something that stays in place, just install ApacheThunder's NAND DevMenu (search for "Dev Mega Pack" on a certain iso site). Just use BBM to install it. FBI goes by the first 8, ignoring the 2 at the end of the title ID, and installs it to SD because it's an app/game (at least, that's what it appears to do).

Why not try BootCTR? It should make it work with people who have no screen-init. Kazuma77 said he uses a no-screen init fork and at the link below is his config.
Link: https://gbatemp.net/threads/the-status-of-gateway-and-a9lh.427889/page-56#post-6408904

I was using no init, but it broke the CBM9 part of my configuration, containing the stuff I use less often, so I went back to the original screen init files.

Thanks! So it would be better to install Luma first and then add GW's arm9loaderhax.bin as another booting method later?

I want to be abled to autoboot to GW and when I press the "L"-button on startup Luma CFW shall boot. Is this possible? (Both using the same Emunand Partition)

Also if I use both Luma and GW with the same Emunand will it be possible to play GBA games whenever I boot into Luma CFW?

Use my BootCTR9 configuration HERE if you want GW to run first. Luma has to be the default with Luma's chain loader (obviously). Just make "boot_config_gw.ini" the "boot_config.ini" (by default, it's setup for CFW). It's set to run Luma from A though, not L. You can change that, but I wouldn't recommend it. All hotkeys seem to work with A (seems to be the only hotkey anything likes for that matter, but I can easily delete the Cakes config file when I want to change things on that, so Luma it is). Or you could use this in an unconventional way and make Luma your "a9lh/gw/arm9loaderhax.bin" file (or swap the payloads so that GW runs by default).

I was able to restore my nand with the newest gateway beta

Thanks for confirming that's fixed. And good to know you won't be needing a hard mod.

I think i am just going to be patient for now. As of this moment it doesn't really offer me anything that i would trade the safety of an Emunand for.
I personally think the tool "CIAngel" is far more revolutionary than the whole A9lhx.

You don't have to "trade the safety of an EmuNAND" for it. You can simply restore EmuNAND_original.bin to EmuNAND instead of restoring it over your SysNAND with the "keep A9LH" setting, and not delete EmuNAND. Consider any part of the guide beyond the actual A9LH installation a suggestion, not something you have to do.

You should update your wishlist on your signature.

As for me, I just want them to remove the sysNAND nag, or make it an option we can check off.

Exactly. If they can detect that you're running A9LH, why not just have it enable firm protection instead of showing a nag?

And now it's possible to run GBA and NDS Games on Gateway? is it safe to use SysNAND yet?

Well, I tried to run Metroid Fusion, Four Swords, and use my DSTwo (non-plus). All of them black screened on me, so, apparently the answer is "no" for the time being. It's perfectly safe to USE SysNAND. Just don't update it. I leave updates DNS blocked until I'm ready to do one, so I'm not going to get a notice anyway. You'll want to use Luma or Cakes with the firm protection patch on to update SysNAND for now. Hopefully they will fix that next release.

So, I can go to Luma to use GBA/NDS and Update, like always and return to Gateway for my Flashcart with my updated SysNAND?
