So I finally got my hands on a DS lite on Saturday, so I decided to flash it on Sunday. I was using v7, not the new v8, and everything seemed to be running smoothly. About 68% or so, the DS just shut off. When I turn it back on, nothing happens. I tried using the recovery mode by holding down start+select+a+b with nothing in slot 1 and my G6 lite in my slot two, but it locks up after it boots up the touchpod. I can't do anything else at all with my system. My battery didn't fall out, and my DS was plugged in the whole time. Any idea how this happened? And how to avoid it in the future? I'm sending my DS back to Nintendo in a few days to get it repaired, and I was wondering if I should try this again or not. I've flashed about half a dozen phat DS's with PASSME before, and never once had a problem.

If its the new one, it might be one of those that are easily bricked. I've always used my tool covered in aluminium foil and insulated with insulation tape. I just leave the tip showing a little. Not brick a DS yet. If its new just take it back to the shop and exchange it. You may be better reading GBATemps flashme tutorial as well.

Yes, I did insulate it. I just rolled up some aluminum foil, and I taped the foil all the way up to the top, so only the tip was showing. I did read the guide. I can't bring it back to the shop I bought it at, because it was a gift from my mother that she bought from some dude on EBAY importing the enamel ones.

Try A,B,X,Y instead.

I know there has been some confusion in the past with the key combinations actually being wrong. You've gotta leave your passme in there as well I think.

If you manage to recover using the keys dirtie said. Try installing flashme v8. It beeps when your installing, so you can turn the DS upside down and hold the tool straight. When it stops beeping flashme is installed.

I have tried abxy as well. I'll try it again tomorrow with the PASSME inserted and I will see what happens. Although, for the record, I was holding the thing in front of me and holding the foil straight while my girlfriend watched the screen.

Edit: and it's dead like Roosevelt. The green light turns on, but nothing comes on the screen. it doesn't even backlight.

i believe to recover from a badflash, you have to put flashme.nds in the root of your g6, THEN try the ABXY combo. you should boot directly into flashme. If not you might needs to invest in a cheaper FLASHCARD such as supercard SD or CF.

It is beyond me why anyone would try this risky procedure when a Slot-1 device can be used with no risk at all.

Am I missing something?

Flashme has the benefits of:

- Booting a slot-2 device without a slot-1 card or passme
- Recovering your DS if it's firmware is erased by a bricker

Yeah with hindsight and no warranty, not the smartest thing to do.

As a last resort you can always send it back to nintendo for repair, and pay their charges.

Even with my old trusty Ez4 I didn't think flashme was worth the risk, and I certainly wouldn't even consider it now I'm using an R4.

Additionally you have those benefits without any risk at all, when done right. Never had a problem, and flashed quite some.

It's not really rocket science. (Not saying that you can't be out of luck)
