I was asking to see if anyone could help me decide, to start, the only real reason I wanted one was cause Xenoblade Chronicles 3d Works on it. When nintendo announced the update for wii u before with the Wii mode gamepad compatibility, i was excited to hear about it, until i found out it only displays the game on screen, and every time i use the homebrew in wii mode, i can just look at the screen but still need to use wii motes and such, just touching the screen to see "wii u game pad cannot be used in this mode" i only wish i could play Xenoblade chronicles using the gamepad as well as other emulators and homebrew.

I still want one, but not having it for so long due to finacial reasons (Can't find console discounted enough) I'm not sure, The better 3d screen, the enhanced controls with clearly mimic the circle pad pro or wii u game pad, and better performance all sound okay, the micro sd card exception along with having to unlock the thing covering it as opposed to the open door of the previous models were kinda bad. But i guess just having a bigger sd card with homebrew for ftp file transfer could be bit okay for that, and i'll finally have Xenoblade 3d anywhere (even bathroom time) instead of just tv limit.

To be honest the only reason is to save me some money, im not rich so i would need to think carefully. If i could play xenoblade chronicles on the wii u game pad with contoller inputs out of just viewing it and using classic controller, i probably would wait for another reason to get the New 3DS like a new game. But is also long term for future releases, i dont notice many New 3ds exclusive games compared to the existing ones. So any guidnce would be nice.

UPDATE: I bought one for $172.99 that meets all requirements and a free carying case and free game. Nice bonus!:)

Please lock or remove as not necessary anymore, sorry for any inconvience.

This might not help you with your 3DS choice, but Nintendo actually released Xenoblade Chronicles as Wii Virtual Console. If you buy it on the Wii U eShop, you can play it using the Gamepad as a controller ^^

fucking rip. Well, I'll add the fanfare here.

Really? i thought virtual console games on wii u needed classic controller set ups for it. I didnt know gamepad works with wii vc games. Is this real?
If you look on the Wii U eShop, it'll say if you can use the gamepad. The general rule of thumb is if the game supported the Wii Pro or Pro Plus controller, it'll let you use the gamepad.

You'd have to start a new file as far as I know.

Oh, guess it makes sense, it is virtual console, but i jut thought by slight chance it can just load the save file from the system. but i guess for that it must somehow access wii mode to do it but vc games never do i assume.

Nintendo really should have considered proper ways to back up save files across systems, it just upsets me a lot to know how limited save feture is to the "over protected system file structure of a Technically advanced system" Back up save to sd, cloud save or something. Save file conversion from wii mode software to wii u vc games. is like they dont care much about preserving save game.

Nah, you can use your Wii save file. Speaking from experience here, it works great.

So if i have any wii mode saves on wii u and i buy a virtual console game, i can load the save and continue? Will i also be able to use the game pad?

Hold on, I'm supposed to be deciding if i should spend the money to upgrade to new system. Xenoblade chronicles is $20 + tax on eshop vc, is cheaper than buying new console and the game which is $40 but even then why that game specifically $20 on eshop when other games like super mario galaxy and sin and punishment is only $10? Very greedy nintendo.

Indeed, I haven't continued playing much, but I bought the game about a week ago and my save I transferred from my wii a couple years ago registered on the VC version.
Also I think they're pricing it based on how hard it is to find the game. Metroid Prime Trilogy on the eshop is the same price I believe.

Well the wii game disc is outrageous over $200 so $20 isn't bad price, except if your system breaks down you have to buy it agan on a new one. since all purchase is linked to console itself unlike playstation network is link to the id that buys the stuff, can redownload on other systems

The current nintendo online system is bollocks and they don't make it easy to transfer your purchases, but the purchases are definitely linked to your NNID. You NNID is locked to a single console unless you call nintendo to get them to unlock it. And even after that when you link it to a new console it's locked to the new console. Your saves are the only thing that are fucked bud.
But real talk, it's a wii save file mate. You can back that onto an SD card.

I know, i do back up my saves, but nintendo really should be more considerate to user conveience. How they manange to have sd save copy back up option on previous console then remove it from the new one is beyond confusing.

Probably because the majority of Wii hacks were save based.

I would upgrade, its worth it.

Emulators/homebrew stuff runs faster, has Xenoblade chronicles 3d, snes virtual console, AND the c-stick is pretty useful in some games.

If you own the limited edition pikachu 3ds xl that now cost an arm and a leg, then no, you do not need to upgrade to a new 3ds xl.
