Success! Got it up and running!
One thing I don't quite understand, I thought I had followed all steps to copy my 10.7 emunand to sysnand. So all those dumping and injecting steps. But when finally restarting the system (after formatting SD and thus removing sysnand), it was still my old 9.2. Not quite sure what went wrong there. Doesn't really matter though, I updated it to 10.7, injected fbi in h&s and installed the hb loader cia.

Curious as to why not 64K? My 200GB SD cold boots noticeably faster using 64K.
The guide says to set your SD card to 32K but I've read comments that 64K can provide faster speeds. Should I stick with 32K or go with 64K? I'm using a 64GB SD Card for my O3DS XL.

Thanks for the guide. I am in the process of following it right now.

I have one question though. I am doing it on a japanese n3ds, and when I do the downgrade to 9.2.0 step, it ends up saying 9.1.0-20J. Is this a problem? I used the download link "New 3DS 9.2.0 - JAP (Mirror)" from the guide.

Quick question, I installed arm9lh a while back using this guide but I just checked now and there seems to be a lot of revisions to the guide since then. My main concern is the step regarding dumping emunand partitions and reinstalling them to sysnand, previously we could just use decrypt9 to restore the backup but now I see the guide includes this step. Is this just for people who have installed cias to emunand and have been using it for a while? If youre going straight from a vanilla system to arm9lh cfw would you still need to do this step?

So I followed the guide (awesome guide btw!) and now I've successfully got CakesFW with arm9loaderhax on my new3ds. So what kind of in-game cheating options are available? I know that SpiderAR doesn't seem to work on the new3ds... so is there something else I can use that works with Cakes?

It's also for people who had a lot of stuff from eShop before deciding they were willing to risk *hax and wanted to keep it ;-)

The guide used to say that you could skip that step if you didn't care about anything on your emuNAND but now the guide doesn't specifically say that anymore. hmmm. It looks like he's making significant changes to the guide as when I did my last 3DS a9lh install there was nothing about RedNAND in the guide.

And now he has removed the RedNAND portion. Probably since RedNAND is broken and Decrypt9WIP hasn't posted a new release with the fixes in them (although you could just compile it yourself).

Hei, nice guide and i also succeeded with my a9lh. but when i tried to run R4sdhc from cakesFW sysnand, i only got black screen. i was using emunand before and it can run r4sdhc both on sysnand or emunand. are there any solutions for this? i tried to search google first but can't get the answer. also if there's a new update of sysnand from official nintendo, can i update my "patched sysnand"? thank :)
AuReiNAND is your best friend.

  1. Scroll to the bottom and Initialize Savedata (it also may be called Clear All Save Data) as fast as possible
  2. Navigate to http://yls8.mtheall.com/3dsbrowserhax_auto.php on your 3DS without closing the browser (if you get a slider, zoom all the way in on it, then tap the very right edge of it; this can take quite a few tries)

How is this possible when the browser forces you to restart after Initializing Savedata?

I thought I was going crazy. I was following the guide yesterday for my N3DS, and all of a sudden rednand switched to emunand. But like you said Decrypt9, was throwing off an error for me when trying to dump hs.app so I had to go back and create emunand.

Hi all..
A9LH N3ds install... all gone well until:

Copying EmuNAND data to SysNAND
Make sure you have restored EmuNAND from emuNAND_original.bin before doing this

  1. Go to "EmuNAND Options" then "Partition Dump...
"SD is not formatted for EmuNand" (and thus failed)
Also in the main menu it shows the SD size " & no emunand"
I did follow the guide and restored emunand (and sysnand)..

Any advice? thanks!

Edit : solved... Rednand and emunand are not the same, use decrypt9 29.03 so it recognises Rednand.

thanks for this guide... it was a long haul but it all worked as stated.

i used a 32gb card.... if i want to upgrade my sd card, am i right in thinking i just need to copy all the contents from this one to the new larger card and we are done? no sd cloning required as there is no emunand?

is that right?

Did you create a RedNAND instead of an emuNAND at the beginning? If so, and if you're still having trouble, I'd suggest starting over with an enuNAND. I had a similar error and then the guide changed saying to create emunand.

For the record I started when the guide said Rednand, went to sleep and carried on the next day not realising it had changed. The workaround was to use a newer decrypt9 than released. (29/03/16 in the header)

Hello Everyone.

Just bought a brand new N3DS and it has firmware 9.0.0.
Unfortunately I'm stuck at part 1 of the guide: after I launch the install procedure of Homebrew, 3ds gets stuck with the lower screen in red color. I tried around 10 times with the same result. Any help? Maybe I cannot understand what this means:

The browser closes automatically and system returns to home menu.

Thanks in advance

Without closing a second time is what it means.

I'm stuck on Part 5 trying to configure cakes. I keep getting this error message when I try to launch "This cake uses an unknown or unsupported patch type.". Anyone else have similiar issue or what? I can't get back into sysNAND to start this Part over again because I keep booting into Cakes. Holding L isn't working either. I'm using the latest version of Cakes by the way.

Thanks for the reply. So I'm doing it correctly but unfortunately it doesn't work.
I tried another 10 times with the same behaviour. I also tried to change date and time, no luck...
Any other suggestion?
Thanks in advance
