OTP Guide

Full Guide Release!

https://plailect.github.io/OTP/

All regions now supported!

If you appreciate this guide and the work I put into maintaining it, I accept donations through both Bitcoin and PayPal.

If you felt like the guide helped you out then I'd really appreciate it! If I get enough I may buy a 2DS for testing hardware stuff so I don't break another N3DS.

If the guide didn't help you out then I'm really sorry about that :(

lol, I think I've seriously screwed up my N3DS. I made it through section 2, and when I booted up my 3ds the screen is black. I tried deleting the "extdata" file and booting without the DS, but no luck. Now no matter what I do my 3DS seems bricked. Is there anything I can do to fix it? I've heard of hardmodding, but I don't know if it's capable of fixing this. Thanks.

Edit: I also have backups of both of my NANDs before I started this on my PC.

Hardmod and a restore of that sysNAND backup you made should do it.

Was attempting to get my OTP for my N3DS, and I'm stuck on these steps in section 2:

  1. Open TinyFormat on emuNAND.
  2. Press (Y) to format emuNAND.
  3. Reboot back into emuNAND and complete initial setup without linking NNID.
  4. Change your theme in emuNAND then reboot into sysNAND. If your sysNAND has also changed then your NANDs are linked and you must use TinyFormat again.
I installed TinyFormat.cia on my emuNAND and used it to format the emuNAND. Following that, I rebooted into emuNAND and did the initial setup. But in step 4, it says to boot back into emuNAND, but I can't. I'm stuck in a boot cycle and it won't proceed. CTRBootManager keeps coming up and even though the ReiNand splash screen comes up, it reboots and goes back to CTR. I tried booting up sysNAND, using browserhax to get back to the HB menu and loading PastaCFW but that won't work, either. What's going on? I've already restored my emuNAND twice, wary of trying again.

I must say, this is one of the best guides i've seen around here. Thank you!

I haven't followed it yet, but I do have a quick question for anyone willing to answer. I currently have a 4gb mSD and a 32gb one. I am using the 32 as my main one, with my .cias and emuNAND 10.6 installed and whatnot. If possible I don't want to have to go though the whole process of setting everything back up on it again. (Although if I must, I guess that can be done easy enough with some proper backups) Since so many additional backups need to be created with this guide, and I intend to follow it exactly, my 4gb probably won't be big enough to do this properly. Can I go get another, say an 8 or 16 for cheap then use that with the guide, then afterwards just pop in my 32gb and continue from there? or should I just use the one SD card and restore everything afterwards?

Also, kinda a side question. To all of you who have done this successfully, would you say that the benefits are worth the time/effort/risk? and finally, if needed, is it possible to basically go in and fully un-mod the 3DS? If I needed to sell it or something for example?

I bet this has already been requested, but it would be nice to have a poll up top to show how many people have had success with this and how many not.

Thanks! This is an awesome community!

Looks like the formatting relinked your NAND, press that key to stop Menuhax from autobooting or go to Menuhax menu and set it to type 1 again.

You will need to format your emuNAND twice I think.

Yes, it ended up being Menuhax. I deleted it and am proceeding from there, and I'm making progress. Thank you!

I downgraded with my NANDs linked and it didn't seem to matter. Nothing you do during the guide really requires that they be unlinked in the first place anyway. By the time you downgrade emunand, you can't boot it anymore so you don't get any weirdness from trying to load 9.2 and 2.1 at the same time.

you fix your brick by restoring your sysnand backup via hardmod, follow the guide on the tutorial section.

Thanks a ton! I had a bit of frustration when my nands re-linked after using tinyformat on my emunand and trying to use decrypt9 from emunand on 10.6 (because I'm dumb). Other than that and a near heart attack when 2.1 wouldn't load (deleting extdata fixed it), everything went smooth on the first try!

Everyone involved in this guide and the software involved are insane in the best possible way. Thanks a bunch, managed to get the OTP of my N3DS XL without bricking it. :)

Holy cow that was nerve wrecking.

Things got a little fishy when I couldn't get my nands unlinked, and then after the sysnand restored it was black! Taking out the SD card did the trick though! Now I'm just waiting for my NANDs to finish restoring.

All went well in the end though! Got my OTP for my n3ds xl, no bricking needed!

Thanks again to all who've helped with this!!

Just started trying to get the OTP from my O3DSXL. Ran into an error when downgrading my emunand 9.2 into 2.1. The process looked like it was going okay in sysupdater but after maybe 60% I got an error screen saying that an error had occurred and that I needed to turn of the 3ds. I am restoring my 9.2 emunand now and will attempt to upgrade in to 10.6 and then try the downgrade from there.

In the tutorial i read this "This guide will work on New 3DS, Old 3DS, and 2DS in the U, E, and J regions. The C, K, and T regions shipped with version 4.X which is after the OTP lockout, and as such cannot downgrade far enough to use this guide."

Didn't the 2ds and new3ds release after 4.x aswell?

2DS and O3DSXL all run the same firmware as the O3DS. So in theory, the only thing preventing the downgrade for C/K/T consoles is the region barrier, not the firmware barrier.

I used TinyFormat to format my EmuNAND, and now all of my games are gone on EmuNAND, which is fine. But if I wanted to actually delete them from my SD Card, where would they be saved at on the SD Card? They're not showing up in BigBlueMenu for me to uninstall, and I need to free up space on my SD card, because it's storage is full.

Update: I'm actually following the OTP Guide found here https://github.com/Plailect/OTP/blob/master/Old_3DS_Spider.md and got to step 16 before I noticed that I'm not going to have enough space on my SD card to copy my EmuNAND/SysNAND backups to my SD card. I'm sure the CIA files I installed are located in SD:/Nintendo 3DS folder but since I've done all the previous steps, I now have 5 folders located there and don't know what is okay to delete. I asked this question in another thread and received an answer, but am still unsure of what is okay to delete in the Nintendo 3DS folder. Everything? Anything? I have to clear space in order to do anything further. Any help will be very appreciative.
