I think we should have stuff like that (from him or someone else) but not anytime soon

I mean it's not something impossible, he have done that in a month, maybe others will do it in 3 or 4 months, so I feel a bit confident

I'm just hoping that this thread won't suffer as 'Hykem's IOSU' did. I strongly recommend you to keep it quiet until we got more details. Smea is great dev known to always finish things he's up to, so please no begging and pleading here! Show some respect.
SonyUSA, think you'll have to update your infamous "DevClicker" once in awhile, including Smea)

No, the hardmod stuff you see is because Smea was so stupid and bricked his Wii U, managed to unbrick it again tho.
You can do EmuNAND stuff just with IOSU.
You sure do too big for someone that most likely can't even code a simple homebrew file for the 3ds or wii/wii u. We all know you're just jealous of smea because he actually put out a poc and actually created the hombrew channel/launcher for the 3ds.

I'm intrigued with redNAND and stand-by mode... Since in stand-by mode, the Wii U can access the internet and download stuff (software updates) to its NAND or a connected USB device and it can be awaken with the "Quick-Start Menu" on the Gamepad to load any software without starting the Wii U menu, what happens with a redNAND and stand-by mode? From this PoC, I'd say the Wii U's "back" to its original NAND when turned in stand-by mode. Yet if the SD slot isn't powered at all in stand-by mode (which would be logical, considering USB devices [so we can (un-)plug them freely] and Wii sensor bar are not continuously powered), I guess I have my answer (which is stand-by mode = no SD access whatsoever so real NAND stuff only; leaving this train of thought for who might be interested).

Now for the size of the redNAND partition on SD... I'm not sure of what I'm talking about but aren't the system partition and games/save data/updates/DLC partition on the same data chip (eMMC storage)? Is only system related stuff redirected? or is the data stuff also redirected? I guess the latter is probably the safer... but if so... could we have a data partition of any size?

I am going to assume that you will need a SD card either equal or greater size to your NAND that is on your Wii U, 8GB Wii U users are lucky for this reason, since they will probably only need a 8GB card, but 32GB users might need a bigger card. I think that's the case since with the 3DS, the SysNAND as 1GB, so you needed 1GB of space on your SD card for EmuNAND.
I'm pretty sure that even though system and user data are both on the same physical device, they are actually in different logical devices, otherwise it would be very unsecure.

You're wrong in here. Nand is 8GB, for both WiiU and vWii. System memory is a different IC, 8-32GB.
But please, let's just wait with all these assumptions, until things got released.

There's a redNAND written to an SD card that he managed to cold boot from. How was he still able to install his own apps though? Wouldn't it be the same circumstances as a sysNAND just not the sysNAND.
Probably with sdk's "System config tool's Import Title Option", could have been in WUP format (NAND image) or in .wumad format to be able to be installed :P

i guess the rednand only needs the 2x512MB nand to be redirected (possibly even just the wiiu bank) , afaik the 8/32GB emmc is only used for storage of eshop content, and even if it does house a select few system titles they could probably just be redirected separately to the SD, a 32GB rednand would be kinda silly, but lets not forget this is just a crude proof of concept even if he was redirecting the whole 32GB + 1GB nand doesn't mean it couldn't/wouldn't eventually be much more streamlined to redirect only the bare essentials

Regardless of read write speeds and all that, could he also run an emunand off of a usb drive? The 3DS doesn't have one, but is it as easy as changing a variable? Like if he popped the SD card into a USB converter and plugged it in, he could boot off that?

idk, theoretically i guess it would be possible, but it would really depend i guess on how early the wiiu mounts USB drives etc, plus there is the problem of the USB formatting aaik the wiiu will only support the native wiiu formatted USB drives, plus we dont know exactly what the exploit is, for all we know it might be based on the rumored recovery mode that runs from a SD card...thus making the SD card a more logical choice if your already running stuff from there

<censored> has never released one shred of proof of his work. Smea has actually released a proof-of-concept video, along with not stating a release date.
Regardless he has contributed tons for the Wii U scene in documentation.
