I'm running the latest version of Ohana3DS Rebirth and I'm editing Smash 3DS. I can export textures and models, but the files export as data incompatible with the import feature. For example, a Marth texture I exported was exported as a PNG. When I tried to import back, it showed the list of compatible texture files, none of which were PNG. Google isn't helping at all. Models also have a similar issue, being exported as a different type that is incompatible with importing and Google won't get me a converter or some sort of help.

The creator of the program isn't interested in actual importing/editing. It is being developed as a viewer. Your only options are either the old version of ohana, which has drastically reduced compatibility. Or Every File Explorer.

Can EFE or the old version of Ohana 3DS convert PNG to BCH or something along those lines?

You need regular Ohana, not Rebirth, to be able to actually insert new textures:
  1. Open up Ohana and click Open, then browse to a .bch file with more than 6 textures (I found that ui/model/chara/chara_hand/normal.bch works well enough). You should be on the Models tab as you do this.
  2. Open the .mbn file of the costume you actually want to open. Ignore the error.
  3. Now, open the .bch file containing the textures you want to open. Ignore the error.
  4. Now click the Textures tab. You should be able to see them now!
  5. Import over the textures you want to replace, and hit save.
That should be it! It's an incredibly wonky program, but you can make it work still. Have fun!
That's how you get custom character textures. I found this out by mistake :D

Also, smash shows different models when u press pause. For example: if you edit costume 1(c00)you need to put those files in h00

I barely know anything about the models. I assumed I could just put my texture on one alternate color and use that alt to see the differences. So, for example, if I edited c04, would I also apply my edits to h04?

Okay, thanks! I couldn't find anything from Google, but I assume I missed something because what you sent was a quotation.
The instructions were in the Smash4Command thread. I told TheGag96 how to do it, then he made a post showing how to do it.

Yes

I apply it to c00 then copy the files to h00

Thank you for your help!! Sorry, I ask a lot of questions when it comes to this stuff. And in general.

It's fine
I opened the Ohana 3DS program I found at the second link from a Google search, on a "Project Pokemon" site. When I tried to load the texture, nothing happened. When I dragged and dropped the file, it flipped to the model tab and said something went wrong.

An error will pop up when you load normal.mbn and normal.bch, just ignore it.(Load them in the Model Tab)

Oh, I see. I can't even follow basic instructions, GG.

I tried that and got "This is not a valid model file!" as well as nothing appearing in the texture or model sections.

Yes, but at least to my experience at least with the Pokemon game models, compresses the imported textures HARD.

Or Every File Explorer.
Does EFE however NOT compress these textures?
It would have to open the decompressed files, being in some weird number format.
