Hi,
I am running an O3DS XL w/ 9.2.0 and have Menuhax + Unlinked Emunand all set up. I started dumping and converting all of my carts for convenience, and quickly realized that the 32GB card i was running with previously was not enough space since I have a handful of 4GB titles.

So i bought a 256GB Sandisk Extreme card and formatted it as FAT32. This works great so far with everything *except* menuhax. Whether I have menuhax set to autostart, or use key combo, or whatever, it is totally ignored on this card and I have to boot with another method - browserhax, oot3dhax, etc work fine. I have used browserhax -> homebrew menu -> menuhax installer on this new card to make sure its still installed, and if i pop out the 256GB card and put my old one back in menuhax works-- it doesn't work on the larger card

Is there any known issues surrounding menuhax with a larger SD card? I would ideally like to get it to work as its a rather convenient way to boot. I've tried searching around and haven't really seen any related posts about this. Things take a little longer to load on a larger sd card so i was wondering if perhaps menuhax times out before the sd card is mounted

Thanks for any help!

I don't think it's because of the size of the SD. I just bought a 128GB micro SD for my N3DS (previously I had a 32GB), and even if emuNAND takes longer to boot, it works as fine as with my 32GB card.
Try to completely uninstall MenuHax, make sure you have the latest version (2.2 iirc), and reinstall it.

I can confirm the menuhax installer version i used is 2.2. I changed theme to remove menuhax and confirmed it was gone with my old working 32gb card. Then I put in the 256GB card and used OOT3dhax to get to the homebrew launcher, and then I installed it again. Still no good unfortunately :-(

Try to uninstall menuhax, remove the theme exdata folder from your SD card (000002cd iirc), reinstall menuhax, go to the theme management screen to recreate theme management info. Maybe that'll work.

1) Ran delete from the menuhax installer
2) Changed themes on sysnand
3) Deleted the theme ex data
4) Re-entered the theme menu, got the prompt that it was creating theme extra data again
5) Booted HBL w/ OOT3DHax
6) Reinstalled menuhax

Still no go :-( But thanks for trying to help

Weird as everything else works great with this card. Does anyone else have a 256GB card working with menuhax?

I have no sources to cite, but I've read a few times that the OG has issues with larger cards that thew N3DS does not.

That's interesting. I hadn't noticed that since I use the default, but I get the same thing. So, maybe menuhax is a no go with the super large cards for reasons unrelated to the hack itself :-/

Ok... I've found a neat little workaround that works for me - I have theories as to how this works, but I can't say for sure- however, I can reproduce it every time on my system.

1) Install menuhax in auto boot mode
2) Boot into sysnand (it ignores menuhax for me as usual)
3) Wait for stuff to load
4) Hold power button, to where the power off menu pops up
5) Press home to return to the home menu instead

This invokes menuhax for me on the 256GB card. I'm assuming that pressing home there reloads the theme data, and thus invokes menuhax. At that point the sd card is fully loaded and mounted - so maybe it is just a timing issue with larger cards

I haven't gotten a chance to test Menuhax with it yet, but I can confirm that themes do not load on first boot with either of the 256GB Micro SD cards I've tried on my n3ds xl, which worked fine with the 128GB card I used previously. Perhaps the 3DS struggles to load themes off of larger cards? They're both the Samsung 256GB EVO+ UHS-I microSDXC U1 card that shipped as a reward from the Galaxy Note7

Why MenuHax doesn't work properly:
SD cards larger than 128GB have longer boot up times, as a result the 3DS is unable to locate the data for the theme in time on boot, and by association it also won't be able to execute MenuHax normally. It prioritises booting into the Home Menu over finding the theme, so that's why if it can't find theme data in time at boot then it will just assume that there's no theme data on the SD card and boot straight to the Home Menu with no theme applied.

Why your workaround works:
Because the OS and Home Menu have already loaded at that point, the process doesn't need to be repeated when you return from the power down screen back to the Home Menu. Instead of reloading the entire Home Menu, the 3DS simply does a refresh, at which point it correctly detects theme data and executes MenuHax.
