All Sandisk micro SD are not the same. Some are good, others not that much. The same for Samsung, Lexar, Trascend...

A good SD will do the job, regardless of brand.
except Samsung actually uses MLC flash memory in their micro SD cards that are 64gb+ while most of the rest are still using TLC which has been the standard for flash drives since forever. so a samsung will outlive the others by a margin

that and sandisk and lexar being notoriously known for bad flash memory over the years especially on the speed side and the price range.

at least brands like transcend keep price and quality

its kinda obvious what he means legit = real specs, fake = china scam cards that say 128GB but only hold 2GB before everything goes down the crapper

in my experience a lot of smaller independent mobile phone accessory shops do have dodgy stock, they can be a mixed bag, and its not just online = fake, if you actually bother to use your brain and avoid the BS ebay sellers and only buy from major retailers you can buy online just fine, and if you really insist on buying on ebay just check their feedback while there will be thousands of idiots mindlessly leaving "wow so happy with my $5 128GB SD" there will be a few more informed folks who will out if a seller is selling dodgy cards, if you see even 1 "sells fake SD cards" i would avoid them like the plague....although personally i just always go to the good old bricks and mortar and well established shops for SD cards 90% of the times,

one final note a "quick format" would not show any signs of a SD being fake, you would need to perform some proper tests i.e H2testw or other SD verification tool, i would imagine there would be something like that for android phones
I think your mistaking quality to fake or in this case "legit", at least from what I'm understanding in the TC's response. You also need to account for default space when buying storage devices, some people feel cheated when they buy a 3TB HDD and find out its only 2.72TB.

When shopping for parts like this its always worth the extra money to pay for a reliable brand like Sandisk, in the long run it will pay for itself when you decide to use it for other systems or even your PC. Your free to shop online elsewhere but look at the return policy and see if you can return an opened item only to find out its not compatible with your system. Best of luck to you.

i take it you have no idea that there is fake SD cards then, they "fake" the size its nothing to do with quality, they are simply using cheap tricks to trick computers into reading the card as 128GB when there is nowhere near 128GB of storage capacity, if your not clued up about these fakes check here
http://www.rmprepusb.com/tutorials/...s-a-Fake-Capacity-USB-Flash-Drive-or-SD-card-

now you will understand that its not a quality issue but a cheap nasty con/trick , and brand /price have little to do with if a card is fake i could find someone selling fake cards for more than real prices....doesnt make it legit, and nearly all the fakes are branded as sandisk/kingston and packaging on fakes is getting really good, to the point where unless you were being purposefully thorough virtually nobody would be able to distinguish the fake packaging from real, so as i said dont buy from non reputable sources if you dont want to get burned

Agree - eBay sellers that sell genuine cards are few and far between but they do exist. Just don't be in a hurry - waiting a long time for delivery, then having to spend time fighting on PayPal to get a refund when it turns out to be fake. Read all their negative or neutral feedback before buying. Just because they don't have any negative/neutral saying their cards are fake doesn't mean they don't sell fake cards - I bought a fake one a while ago from a guy with 100% positive feedback and a score of about 500. I was his first neg, then a week or two later when he tried to get my neg removed, there were three new ones also crying fake :-p Not sure if I was the first to notice, or if he sold genuine cards for a tiny profit for a while to build feedback before beginning to sell fakes and I happened to be one of the first to get one.

If you live in Aus I recommend CheapChips.com.au. Have bought a lot from them, never had a single fake and they are competitive with the cheap prices on eBay which only end up being fakes anyway. E.g. a 32GB microSD with no adapter was about $16.50 (compared to $30 minimum in OfficeWorks or Dick Smith).

So you're saying just the same I said...

actually i said avoid lexar and sandisk and aim for transcend and especially samsung (especially for lasting due to MLC flash)(even transcend do some mlc flash cards)

I didnt actually say the same as you

Read/write life cycles for TLC are around 3,000 to 5,000
Read/write life cycles for MLC are around 10,000

Basically it comes down to how long you want your micro sd card to live especially since you will probably standby your device in emunand

Remember when SSD's first came out and a bunch never lasted a year or were dying, then you got ones like the Crucial M4 and the Samsung 840Pro which just keeep going no issues.

That is the Difference between TLC and MLC

also micro sd benchmarks are warped i have seen many benchmarks with different results depending on the factors:

1 the card reader
2 the phone

I have seen cards in that list faster than others in other benchmarks with different card readers just look about
also seen different top list cards you linked run really slow on phone benchmarks

So speeds are really moot besides the 3DS cannot even hit speeds that fast in the first place

Just to say.
MLC = Multi Level Cell
So it can be 2 or 3 bits and be the same as TLC.
And as far as i know you don't have permanently writing even in emunand or something else.
So a TLC can perfectly goes with 3DS.

So if people want to get something at the best quality go with SLC (If they even exist and if they do... the price ?)

Yeah I was looking at that one. I wasn't sure, because the read speed was higher on the Sandisk, but thanks.
the samsung has the same read speeds and faster squential read and write speeds than the sandisk in benchmarks (thats with the 32gb version vs the 128gb sandisk)

So it should be even faster on the 128gb card

I'm just curious about where you get these info about whether a card is using MLC or TLC. I viewed some official sites and even checked some reviews, but I seldom heard a lot about people discussing MLC or TLC on mSDs. Or is there any software that can distinguish cards with different cell type?

Pretty much manually searching though there probably is a way to check. Pretty much first discovered it on dashcam/ go pro users forums

Theres another problem with Flash memory in micro sd cards

the smaller the NAND gets the lower the life. The old 50nm NAND MLC has ~10,000 write cycles, 30nm ~5,000 and the current gen which is 20nm is ~3,000.
If you wonder, why make it smaller? Its because the smaller the die the more NAND per wafer, so bigger profits

Aka the as long as we keep squeezing in more space in sd cards they wont live as long, which is why MLC is good because we can get more life out of them.
Saying that SLC wouldnt probably be in sd cards for awhile seeing how MLC only started getting implemented at the end of 2014 start of 2015 into specific micro sd's

That and the known fact of the 3DS corrupting sd cards, mainly due to people leaving them on standby ingame etc, I mean it could be the firmware also i heard the main reason 10.5 came out was because of it breaking sd cards in 10.4.

Hell my friends N3DS didnt last a year with its stock micro sd and he lost all his content because it corrupted (its how i learnt of this issue)
