Question first: has anybody figured out where/how the PS3 pairs with usb/bluetooth devices, where it stores this data(mac addresses, etc). Second question, would it be possible to write a wireless pairing app(such as for using a PS3 controller on an android device without hooking it up via usb) to pair controllers to the PS3 without plugging up the USB cable?

The reason i'm asking is because I have a non-backwards compatible 80 GB PS3 that has non-functional USB ports - I don't know why they stopped working, but they haven't worked for well over two years now. I can still use the PS3 because I had paired it with my bluetooth media remote prior to this so I use it mainly for Movian/Showtime and some Netflix. I can do remote play on my PS Vita(set it up before the USB ports died), but this is obviously not ideal.

So anyway, I'm just wondering if there's a way to manually pair a PS3 controller(sixaxis specifically) by writing to the PS3 flash or by using some kind of homebrew on the PS3/PC. This may not be the best place to ask, but I have done plenty of googling these last couple of years. Thanks for taking a look.

Well, it's displayed in System Settings/System Information.

I'm not sure if this method works, but try it any how?

1. Download and install this program: http://www.dancingpixelstudios.com/sixaxiscontroller/tool.html
2. Connect your PS3 controller to your PC using the USB cable.
3. In the program, set the PS3 controller's (parent?) MAC address to your PS3's.

This should let your controller pair up with your PS3 without connecting it to your PS3 with a USB cable.

I changed the master mac address on the Sixaxis to that of the PS3 but the controller just blinks. I guess it's too much to hope for that it could be this simple. Still, there shouldn't be any reason a simple homebrew couldn't be written for the PS3 to handle pairing without using the USB.

*edit- My thinking is that the PS3 doesn't have a way to identify that it has a controller paired without the usb handshake. If it's as simple as editing the PS3 database to input the mac address of the sixaxis, that could be doable with multiman, right?
