I finally got to test this. I am not on a N3ds so I could not get the 3D quite to the degree I could accept, but I don't care much either at this point so long as it runs and runs well. And run well it did from what I've played thus far. There is most certainly a sound delay, but other than that, all seemed well.

Either you are using an old version or you are not quitting through the prboom menu. The current version saves the configuration when it exits properly. If you use the hax key combo to force quit or the power button it will not save the configuration.

How about playing any custom WADS? I can see only the official ones when booting the prboom

There is a quick write-up for using a mod with this on page 12 of this thread. The menus at launch are hard coded.

Hi guys!

Though I can enjoy other homebrews (Spectre3DS -it rocks!-, mGBA, CitrAGB, eDuke3D...) it can't find a way to enjoy PrBoom3DS: trying to either launch DOOM.WAD (from Steam Ultimate Doom) or DOOM2.WAD (from Steam DOOM II: Hell on Earth) ends with PRBoom3DS being stuck and unresponsive. For the first, it hangs while in the textual [.......] loading phase; for the last, it manages to reach Doom 2's splash screen but then hangs.

Here's my specs:
Old euro 3DSXL with 10.3.0-28E bios
Homebrew accessed through latest Browserhax
Latest boot.3dsx installed
Latest prboom.3dsx and .smdh from github

Here's my SD structure:
\sd root
--boot.3dsx
--\3ds
------\prboom3ds
----------DOOM.WAD
----------DOOM2.WAD
----------prboom.wad (from the link provided few pages back in this thread)
----------prboom3ds.3dsx
----------prboom3ds.smdh

Looks like prboom3DS manages to generate a tranmap.dat before freezing, as I can see it once putting my sdcard back in my computer.

Try putting the WAD files in the root of your SD card.
Where did I read wads had to be in the prboom3ds folder? Silly me. Progress: by putting them in the root, with Doom.wad I can interact with the start menu, then it hangs. With Doom2.wad it hangs like I previously mentioned.

Did you put all of them in the root including prboom.wad? I think that's how I got mine working anyway.

One common issue is using a prboom.cfg file from a pc. This will often have an invalid renderer selected which will cause a crash - delete the prboom.cfg and try again. Also, the files do not need to be in the root - I put them in the prboom3ds folder and they work fine for me. The other issue is missing the prboom.wad file but it looks like you have that covered.

So if you are having an issue download the doom demo and put only that and the prboom.wad file in the prboom3ds folder with the prboom3ds.3dsx file and give that a try. Specifically a legit demo not from a warez site.

Is there a cia with a proper banner? I have no way of compiling my own before someone suggest that
Not that I know of. I need to update the project to use an updated makerom and new rsf files - as it doesn't build the via currently. I never got around to making a proper banner. If someone could make one that would be great.

Looks great, it's fully playable, I hope we can use 3d models for a better effect of 3D display.




You can use 3D models for a better effect of 3D display - just not with prboom3ds. It doesn't support 3D models or have an OpenGL ES rendering engine - software only at present.

I've been working with your code for a three or four days now and have quite a few questions for you. Are you on Discord or is there another way I can get a hold of you other than here? If so, my Discord username is Dahlor. I don't want to de-rail the thread with a bunch of technical stuff. I'd like to help you polish this thing up a little more.

Not familiar with discord. I don't think technical stuff would derail the thread. If it is related to prboom3ds then it is ok to post.

@elhobbs, I've opened a pull request to GitHub with a few changes related to CIA ;)

EDIT: I'm having some random freezes using my build compiled with latest ctrulib (I didn't try with 3dsx though) :/
I will take look at this. Might not get to it today. I don't really use cias. What is the best way to run cias? Gateway or some other emunand hax? I have a gateway 3ds that I got for testing but I have not used it since last December. It was a pain in the ass.
