Nintendo News: Pokkén Tournament Launches Exclusively for Wii U on March 18.
Pokkén Tournament, the upcoming game that lets players battle as prized Pokémon in fighting arenas, will launch exclusively for Wii U on March 18 at a suggested retail price of $59.99. Pokkén Tournament brings high-definition game play and over-the-top action to never-before-seen battles between some of the most recognizable Pokémon characters.

People that buy the first production run version of the game will also receive a special Shadow Mewtwo amiibo card, which can be tapped to the Wii U GamePad controller to unlock the Shadow Mewtwo playable character in the game.

What's so interesting about it?

I asked via email to Hori Europe what the price would be (ended up being £19.99 on Amazon UK) and that it should cost less because it doesn't even have a single analogue stick which would be useful considering the game's in 2.5D and 3D. The only benefit it has over the others is that it's wired but that's about it. He didn't quite told me what made the controller a must other than "it's the proper way to play Pokkén Tournament".

The PR guy also linked me to the image below but again, that's for an arcade machine not a gaming console and one should not really merge the two fanbases together because they like to play with different controllers.

For me i would get it only because i am use to trying to have the most arcade authentic experience possible at home, be it arcade sticks, racing wheels, dance pads, and now with this pokken controller.

The latest rendition of the character select screen had 20 spaces. We currently have 16 characters so expect at least 4 more.

I'M READY TO ROCK TO THIS GAME

In the UK £20 for a controller is peanuts. PS4 pads are £50+ or £35 second hand. My WUPC was £28.
I like to get a deal out of what I buy than pay the full price and then be disappointed that it wasn't worth all that. This is the case. I'll just use the most comfortable controller which will either be the WUPC or Gioteck GC-2.

Why is the word 'exclusive' on the title? This game is as much of an exclusive as is Rise of the Tomb Raider and Street Fighter V.

Considering to pre-order the game but so far the cheapest in Europe for me is 43€ (= £32.99) though I'm hoping for a slightly lower price. Pokkén Tournament still isn't on the point that pre-orders have become competitive.

I'd really like to own that Mewtwo card it looks so cool! :)

Twilight Princess HD and Pokkén Tournament during the same month? Whoever's in charge of the release dates isn't doing a very good job

Right...because both cater to the same consumer group because both fit the same genre. Oh wait they don't and one of those games is just a polished version of a previous release.

Being released during the same month won't hurt sales. The only people that would be concerned about multiple games during a single month are either kids spending their pocket money or adults that can't afford gaming as a proper hobby and neither is Nintendo's target audience!

Well, the extra characters will be on Wii U, so you can consider it DLC lol

For all we know you may require a 3DS code to transfer the new characters without additional purchase options (ignoring overpriced codes on ebay). That's not a form of DLC i would like to see.

----

Since i plan to get the game anyway (still hoping for a Greninja reveal tho), i might as well pre-order it and get shadow mewtwo from the get go instead of unlocking him.
