I'm not sure what the most appropriate forum is, as I couldn't find any kind of "retailer review" forum or something...

Anyway, I wanted to post a review of my experiences with www.kicktrading.ca

Living in Canada I wanted to use a Canadian etailer to avoid random and unknown customs / brokerage fees.

I decided to use KickTrading as I've seen them mentioned a few places, they're prices were good, and shipping fees reasonable. Their website was also well organized and easy to use for the most part.

Monday:
I placed my order and paid in the middle of the night (about 2:00 AM). I woke up on Monday to see that my order had been processed. I anxiously awaited notification of my shipment that day. I live about 10 minutes from their address, but they refused to do any kind of pick-up. As of approx 1800 Monday evening I still had not received notification of shipment and so I emailed them.

Tuesday:
On Tuesday morning I heard back from them saying that my order had shipped the previous day, and they would email me tracking info later that day. As of 2330 on Tuesday I had not heard anything, and my order was still displayed as "processed." I emailed them again enquiring as to my tracking number.

Wednesday:
I excitedly checked my mail to see the package in my mailbox awaiting me! I was excited. However I still had not heard from kicktrading regarding shipment or tracking numbers. Around 1145 I received an email telling me my order had shipped and giving me my tracking number. Checking the tracking number yielded the following results:
Code:
2007/03/21 08:11 WILLOWDALE, ON      Item out for delivery
2007/03/19 20:57 RICHMOND HILL, ON  Item accepted at the Post office

Pros:
+ Good Price
+ Good website
+ Reasonable shipping price (Charged $7, actual postage was $6, leaving a difference of $1 for packaging, materials, etc.)

Cons:
- Poor status updates
- No local pick-up

Misc:
= Average (though inconsistant) email response time

Overall:
I would order from them again, unfortunately I have a real thing for getting my stuff NOW. It's unreasonable, but I can't help it. Shipping time was decent, and I'm happy with how they actually did things (shipping, etc.) but without getting accurate / timely status updates from them it really leaves one wondering and fearing the worst.

Edit: Added details to "Pros: Shipping price"

Not sure if this is true or not but I heard kicktrading is just a guy selling stuff out of his house.

If that is the case it would explain why no local pickups.

As for status updates when I bought my M3 simply I had no problems. Also ordered it when it was out of stock and it still came in decent time (maybe a week).

I had a good experience with them. I ordered an M3 simply and it arrived in 4 days through Canada Post. Not even a dent on the box that was stuffed in a padded envelope.

I have nothing bad to say about them and I would order from them again, but I guess the experiences are relative. I did a lot of research looking for a retailer to buy from and Kicktrading seemed to be the best. It was good decision for me at least.

I'm sure it's a "home-based" business... But I told him I was willing to meet somewhere (like the post office where he goes to mail stuff?) and that I'd even still pay the shipping costs.

Also, I was charged approx $7 for shipping, and postage alone was $6, so figure in packaging cost / going to the post office, and I think that's VERY reasonable. So that was definitely a pro.

As I stated, I felt the timing of service was good, it's just that sometimes I can get REALLY impatient :) I would have just liked to hear what was up with my package.

Packages arrived without any damage (EZ Flash - V Combo & an AirFOAM case).

I've ordered twice from them (Passcard 3/M3 Lite 1st time, then M3 DS Simply 2nd time) and both times have been faultless!

Ordered M3 DS Simply on the Thursday morning (UK time), was dispatched on the Friday and it arrived here on Tuesday. That's from Canada to the UK using the 7-10 day (cheapest) delivery. Came in 4 days (Sunday's aren't working days so they don't really count in the UK). Had similar speed delivery for my first order too.

Noticed he marked the packaging as a gift and value of $20 as well.

Very nice!

Just as an aside, you can't really blame him on the package status problems - he's simply getting them off Canada Post, who don't update them promptly (that's an understatement). Just the way it is.

Bigups to Kick, they got me my stuff asap, and even price-matched. Will be picking up a few more items soon.

I blame them for order status for the simple reason that they are the ones who put it in the mailbox. I just want to get a "hey, it shipped today."

I know of many people who run "shops" out of their homes, and usually local pick-up is not a problem, they just meet somewhere. I've bought satellite dishes behind tim horton's, and kitchen appliances out of the trunk of a car... Not a big deal because they are completely reasonable with their shipping charge, but in my case I was leaving on a trip the following day and so wanted to pick it up that afternoon. Not a big deal, but it is a con.

I agree, tracking numbers for things shipped via Canada Post are useless... In my experience anyway. 90% of the time they don't even show as having left where ever they have shipped from when I'm holding the goods in my hand.

Kicktrading has great service, they replaced an outdated Supercard CF that was not compatible with the NDS before!
However, nowadays I prefer Gamersection.ca, they have great shipping times and great service too!
