Its finally working .. green "installed" are appearing under every CIA file name... My last actions were: 1. Access via Cubic Ninja 2. Entered SysUpdater 3 Received the "Failed to get file info" error 4. Pressed L + R + DOWN +B 4. Brought me back to HBL and I accessed ftpony thing.. then exited out with B 5. Then accessed sysUpdater and this time it worked... YAY!! Tried this exact method a few times. ..... Now I have a black screen... will wait 5 min then forcedully shut it down and see what happened. hopefully all is well....

Did you forcefully power it down or did it eventually show something?

So did it work or did you force it to shutdown? what 3ds are you using?

I'm using N3DS and I keep getting a main.cpp error. I'm not sure if I should continue or what, but it's annoying how the program works but it won't read the file correctly.

*EDIT* Not sure if people know but you can press B after the main.cpp error, you don't have to force it to close.

Hi Yes it worked perfectly. I gave it some time, then forced the shutdown... On boot it gave a black screen.. Read some posts and it turns out:

If your homescreen shows up after removing your sd card (assuming you have a black screen when it's inserted) you need to delete 000002cc/d/e (depending on your region) in your sd card's extdata in the Nintendo 3DS folder.

All is good now, n3ds from 10.1 to 9.2u :D

Have people who have experienced reliability problems with it using methods like FTPony/exit tried CTRBootManager yet? I hear it is a lot more reliable at stuff like this in general, but I'm not sure how it specifically is with Sysupdater. (I can only say it ran fine on the first try on my 2DS.)

SysUpdater is not reading .cia files. Can't downgrade.
Files are on /updates right at the root of my microSD. What seems to be the problem?

On N3DS 10.3-23U using OoTHax.

Specific error information:

"Getting CIA file informations...

titleException:
main.cpp:154: Result 0xD900182F
Failed to get CIA file info!"

Try starting ftpony. When you see the pony, spam b button to exit back to homebrew launcher, then start the downgrade again. I tried EVERYTHING all day, but first time I did this, worked like a charm. Was recommended by a youtuber for N3DS.

Hey thanks. I just came across this problem and what you suggested fixed it.

I finally got the cia files to install after installing menuhax.

I used Ninja Hax for the past 45 minutes and I got tired of constantly loading the game so I installed menuhax, chose to install the default menuhax image (so when it boots it says MenuHax Loading) and selected to install the default Blue theme (its the last option in the menuhax menu) after that I went back to HBL, loaded FBI, it crashes, restarted 3DS and FBI worked.

Of course I didn't want to use this method because as soon as your system reboots after 10 seconds it boots to a black screen, you have to delete menuhax from your SD card... and that's a pain in the ass for N3DS XL users.

For all these MenuHax black screen troubles, if you configure it to not run if you hold a button such as select and hold that button, might it then boot up without needing to remove the card? Then you could just use BrowserHax, the game, or whatever to get back to MenuHax Manager and reinstall from there if so. (Maybe tell it to delete first.)

Just downgraded my son's o3ds on the first try... but then it took several tries to do my daughter's 2ds. My son uses a class 10 sd and my daughter just regular class four. Is it possible the speed of the card has anything to do with the success rate of sysupdater?

I've been wondering that a lot myself. Not just that, but remember, there are a lot of fake cards out there these days. People have experienced problems with many of them in things like Gateway for instance.

It just depends i think, i successfully downgraded on the first try on my 2ds with stock sd card, and a couple of tries on my o3dsxl with a class 10 sd card

Nah, menuhax works by overwriting theme files on your SD card, it affects the menu even if MenuHax doesn't run. By default MenuHax won't run unless you hold a button which is how I decided to use it.

For all of those wondering on how to remove MenuHax just turn off the 3ds (the power off screen pops up, confirming the downgrade worked) and when it powers off remove the SD card, turn on the 3DS, put the SD card back in, and change the theme.

*EDIT* In other words MenuHax is completely safe to use, it doesn't touch anything except a couple files on the SD card. Which is why when you change themes it overwrites the hax.

Figured I might as well ask here (again?). Has anyone fixed the constant soft-bricking problem for N3DS? The current rumored fix (to my knowledge) is to format the 3DS, but I'd like to avoid that if possible.

It's still quite unstable.

i have succeeded downgrade n3ds LL japan but it show fw 9.1 not 9.2 is it normal?

yes that's normal, the CIA pack is likely the wrong version.

The soft-bricks are very stable. Literally every time I get the thing to start downgrading, it does the exact same thing: 41 cias installed, native firm installed, reboots in 10 seconds, then a soft-brick with the standard 3DS error screen. Every. single. time. Several other users have been having this issue as well. Seems to be largely something N3DS specific.

Good for you, given the high failure rates, inconsistency of launching the tool, loading the CIAs, and softbricking without assurance of cause and only speculatory solutions.... THAT is UNSTABLE. Just because YOU got 10 soft bricks in a row doesn't make anything stable.

Anyway, I presume you've tried all the possible fixes:
- remove SD card before turning on
- format n3ds before downgrade
- check MD5 and use terracopy or whatever it's called to move them (these BTW are pretty pointless things to check since file systems and zip files have built in CRC checks)
- use original SD card that came with n3ds
