succesfully donwgrate my zelda N3DS 9.9 (came on 9.5)
but it was a long fight
after 10-20 try with menuhax 2.0 (try ironhax, and other..) allway fail
then try to update N3DS to 10.3 but fail, and i was stuck on 10.1 !! and un-able to update to 10.3 ! (update 10.3 allway fail, firmware error, cant update, even in recovery mode)

then update menuhax to 2.1 then after 10 try (with allway open ftppony first), i was finally able to donwgrate to 9.2 !
formated emunand with GW launcher then booted Cake CFW, and now all seem good

but it was long and hard process, i was not so worry, since i had a hardmod, and Nand backup !!

Who here had to format their N3DS to downgrade and what firmware were you on before? I'm not going to do this if I have to lose all my saves.

You could use svdt to backup all your saves as a last resort. Once you have cfw you could have any game for free and more. I have downgraded 2 new 3ds and 4 old 3ds successfully without formating but if you get any problems you could try it out. Also you can relink your nnid to emunand and redownload any purchased content you may have.

N3ds 10.3 USA are those steps still the good ones?

  1. Grab the sysUpdater app from here and place it into the '3ds' folder of your SD card.
  2. Make a folder called 'updates' on the root of your SD card.
  3. Place all of the CIAs for the update you wish to downgrade to into the folder. (I cannot link these for legal purposes. Sorry!)
  4. Eject your SD card, put it into your 3DS, and boot.
  5. Open up the Homebrew Launcher in your entrypoint of choice and start the sysUpdater app.
  6. If everything goes well, you should have some options. Since we're downgrading, you can go ahead and press the Y button.
  7. Wait and DO NOT touch anything. The app will tell you when it is done. (It took me less than 5 minutes)
  8. Once the app prompts you that it is done, wait. It will reboot automatically.
  9. Bite your fingernails in suspense. If everything goes correct...
  10. Your 3DS will be downgraded!
Can someone PM me the correct files to downgrade my NA N3ds version plz :)

I really wanna do it but a bit nervous

Anyone know whats the site called that installs a Micro USB connector to NAND. My New 3ds xl got bricked and I send it to Nintendo already. Gladly I had Warranty. So when I get my fixed n3ds back, I wanna be able to hard mod it and I'm pretty good with stuff like that but I know I'm gonna screw up with messing with wires. Learned my lesson indeed lol.

So it sounds to me like people are somehow causing themselves to need to reformat because of multiple failed attempts at downgrading, because some people haven't had to do it at all, and some can only get it to work that way.

So, if I may ask, @JJTapia19 , were any of the N3DS systems you downgraded on 10.1? What entry point did you use, and which downgrader?

Yes, one was a 10.1 U Majoras Mask New 3ds Xl. I used homemenuhax and the downgrader linked in the OP but I've seen newer and safer builds of sysupdater like one posted here https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-the-simple-guide-to-downgrading-your-3ds.407888/page-91

You mean this one?
This one uses SULib instead of libkhax. Hopefully it will work now

USE THIS WITH YOUR OWN RISK!!!
And thanks, that's the exact N3DS I have, and it has all my saves on it. I'd prefer not to use svdt as it won't grab everything, so hopefully all goes well. I think I'm still gonna wait a bit, though. At least until tomorrow. There's no way I'm rushing this today.
