First Disgaea game will be getting a PC version

header.jpg

The first game in the popular SRPG series, Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, will be getting a PC version this coming February. It'll include new features such as Steam Achievements, keyboard and mouse support, a new UI and textures, as well as including content from the PSP/DS rerelease: Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness.

Fucking YAY! \o/ One of my favorite games ever, and now I get to play it on a 32" screen!
To be fair, I've played all the Disgaea games (1-5 and D2) on screens 32" or bigger. It's only the re-releases and spinoffs that I had to play on smaller screens (PSP/PSV/DS). And if the handheld versions really bothered you, you could always play them on an emulator to get the big screen treatment.

I admit, those are entirely valid possibilities. And it didn't bother me only playing on my DS Lite.....until I lost it somewhere.
But the difference now is that perhaps the games will look like they were made for something bigger than a three inch screen. (if we're lucky)

Take a look here to see what they are going to be doing with it:

http://steamcommunity.com/games/405900/announcements/detail/75795020937989014

TL;DR - Better floor textures, higher res fonts and character art, UI redesign.

This is some awesome news, I played through 1 - 4 and loved the crap out of them. It looks like they're putting more effort into this than I would have expected once I heard the announcement. Hell the only reason I haven't played 5 yet is because there aren't enough games i'm interested in to justify a PS4 yet, bring it!

Eh.. in an era where most companies are porting over their PS3 and PS4 games - some of them at the same time as the console release - it's hard to get excited about a game that's already been released on three different platforms. If it were at least bundled with Disgaea D2 or updated to have some of the newer features, maybe, but otherwise I'll probably pass, especially if it launches higher than $10.

Here's to hoping the game does well so they port their other titles. I never finished 3 because I got sidetracked by the dream world or whatever the optional area is called and when I went back to the story I was super overleveled. That got boring really quick. Damn you, A.D.D., you've struck again!

I really wish these companies would release on the PC at the same time they do consoles. I stopped buying Hyperdimension Neptunia after the second Vita release because they started releasing the games on Steam as soon as I'd finish them.

Kind of off topic....but I've never understood why Sony platforms are the first ones, and often the only ones, to receive most Disgaea games. I would think quirky strategy games would be better suited for Nintendo. Hopefully Nintendo can work something out with NIS to get some exclusive games for the NX.

I think you're only seeing a part of the strategy games PlayStation has in comparison to Nintendo.

I mean, I'm sure Nintendo has some, but the only one really known is Fire Emblem.

While being on PC is great, I always seen this game as a portable game. Maybe because my first time playing it was on the psp. I'm surprised it isn't on Android yet, afaik.

I remember reading somewhere that the reason they went with Sony is because of how easy it was for them to code games for Playstations. They experimented with Nintendo, but found it didn't fit their games well. Considering even the PS4 gets slowdowns at times for Disgaea 5, it doesn't surprise me.

Better UI that can be interchanged with the old one and mouse support? Take my wallet NISA.
But sadly my laptop doesn't even reach the recommended specs so I'm in for some framerate drops :(
Hopefully I'll have enough money to build a pc next year

Even though it's always nice to see more good games on PC catalog, I would really hope japanese companies would also start putting bit more effort for the porting part (at least I assume developer handles porting job and NIS just publishes).

Because some of the ports are really barebones to say the least. I mean "1080p 30FPS maximum without any graphical options and only playable with wired 360 controller" barebones level. Something like Metal Gear Rising ignores system variables and had problems if game wasn't on C: drive, Hyperdimension Neptunia only has resolution, which doesn't even do anything if using fullscreen mode and Akiba's Trips keyboard and mouse controls were bit...

So yeah, at least game isn't graphically and control vice that demanding, but there's still tons of ways they can screw up all everything. At least looking at the screenshots I dearly hope they use or give option to use anything else than bilinear interpolation upscaling method. I wuold choose pixelated sprites over blurred any day. Also at least screens have "1" as controller buttons so hoping proper controller support for every controller.

Given what we've seen with other japanese-dev-house PC releases, I can't say I'm holding too much hope. Fully expecting a lot of really crap concessions like a 30fps lock, non-customizable key bindings and arbitrary resolution choices, if you are even granted the ability to choose.

It's like you think they were all butt-mad that their golden child, the MSX/2(+), never existed outside of the island borders and they've been taking it out on PC players ever since.

I don't know what this is, you should explain what it is in the article, not just go "Hey this thing you never heard of is getting a port!"
Anyway, if it's on Steam then I don't care.

It's a news post, not a review. OP's shouldn't be required to write an essay about anything that anybody might not know. Also... if you don't know what the game is, and don't care about the system it's for, why are you even posting in the first place?
