we have access to about 40% of the 3ds ram i think
How much do HBL and HANS actually USE, though? I ask because Sm4sh crashes on O3DS with the combination of HANS and HBL being used, and smash takes up 96mb of the 3ds' 128, so I want to figure out which needs to be 'lightened up' so it will run.

I am pretty sure it is only up to 64mb, although smea said that it could be ramped up to 80mb as well.

..shit.

I was under the impression that HANS was sorta a background process and the games being run were run off the 3DS' normal RAM; you make it sound like the issue is that HANS is actually running the entire game, and can't use enough memory rather than using too much.

in that case i'm fucked forever arent i :c

I'll keep hoping for multiple romfs picker and ability to redirect save partition to a container on the SD card alongside them. For multiple Pokemon or other hack convenience.

time for you to buy a n3ds xl
Okay, so real talk - and keep on record that I really am just being an entitled adolescent about this shit rn.

- I just got my 3DS last year, selling it would get me only 100$ (and even then, I'd need my stylus, which I just lost a few days back).
- I don't get games off of my own income; I get my games off of begging for parts of my parents' income, because that's how things work, obviously
- the combination of these two factors does not make it pleasant for me to try and get a n3ds at all

overall it's easier to bitch and whine for a change to a complicated program than just go get money and buy a thing! Kappa

jokes aside, I don't know that I'd be able to hack the n3DS if I got it, so I have to scour eBay extremely specifically (by firmware) to get one, then I'll have to somehow convince my parents that my combo birthday-xmas gift for the year should be an upgrade to something I already have (I wasn't kidding about that part), then somehow get a new stylus because how that works is fair n' all..

the issue is most likely the fact that the xl has thrice the clock power of the o3ds, that's all the issue boils down to I think

Hmm. Looking at Smea's code, it ought to be possible to upgrade the patches in various interesting ways... redirecting savedata to the SD, for example. That in particular would probably be a lot more effort than it's worth, though.

That would be a really cool feature and could be somewhat useful:
Savedata location --> GAMECARD or SD

The ability to use HANS to patch games so that they believe you're on the latest firmware, can this be used for .cias installed to your emuNAND? I'm on emuNAND fw 9.4 on a N3DS. I want to play the Badge Arcade, but can't due to the game connecting to the eshop and my NNID which it needs to believe are the leatest FW. I've tried doing this via HANS, but the game errors out and tells me to hit home to return to the home menu. I suspect this is due to me trying to do this on the emuNAND, but I'm not sure. I thought that perhaps this source code (or someone with enough knowledge already) could give some insight into making this work properly for me, if thats possible at all.

That alone would be an awesome option. Being able to have more than say three save files in your game would be fantastic.

The fact smea is open-sourcing this though and how he recently made a tweet about how he's had less time with his 3DS recently makes me a bit concerned that he's fading out though which would be a huge shame. Or at the very least, exploit releases might become slower...

Also still hoping that he open sources his *hax source code sometime soon because I'd really like to get the eShop back, as I'm currently on 9.9 firmware. I was hoping to grab some eShop titles, but it seems that isn't happening unless somebody can figure something out.
