Alright, that didn't work. Still says 'irregular save data'. There's gotta be something else involved in the check.

I'm going to try matching the ranges now. I kind of lucked out... I basically have two of the 3 pieces legit from months of crazy orders farming; They'll serve as a template.
Thank you. Those should work so long as you do it perfectly.

I have not tried a Wii U transfer, but uploading to the servers as a Mii and playing with them online work, both things that would also be blocked if I failed to do it right.

A range of 9 won't work for everything; use the range of your original 'unmodded' badge.

That is what we have been saying. We do not understand the hax check yet.

Sorry, just doing the online equivalent of talking aloud. I was referring to the stuff I was trying out. Anyway, I have a plan. I'm going to hack my equipment in, save the file, then make a duplicate and change one piece's damage value. I'll look for it in the hex. I'll keep cross-referencing the differences in hex until I can pinpoint that hacker protection byte.

Thanks, bruh.

We know where it is. We know how the game responds to it. We don't know how the game generates it, which is what's important if we want to figure out how to make equipment from scratch and give it a cheat-check byte that the game doesn't say is wrong.

If you know where it is already, mind filling me in? I'm going to try making a duplicate of a legit piece of equipment and copying the bytes onto it, see if it copies to Wii U that way.

Literally just use the old editor, the 'range' value IS the anticheat byte. '9' is what I got for the original piece of equipment (the one that I undid the badge x.72 on, undid the effect calc on, redid new effect calc, redo x.72 for all the 3 new ones) so using 9 on the new ones worked. Not using 9, of course, resulted in Smash detecting shit was up.

We know where it is, yes. We don't know exactly how it works is all.

with that said, open any given piece of equipment in the old editor, save the file, change the range, save as separate file, compare. Answer should be obvi.

I'm not so sure it's just the range. I mean, if it was just the range, then I could make an exact duplicate of a legal piece I have, and it should go through to the Wii U. What about the 'level' value? I noticed it says "-1" for any equipment transferred from Wii U, as well as the equipment generated by the editor itself. Other than that, I don't know.

Right, I almost forgot about the level value. 2 stands for a normal piece of equipment, 1 stands for the next 'level' of equipment (like a light shoe or smthn) and 0 for the next (ultra-light). -1 is for the byte reading as 'FF', something that happens for all (I think) equipment with effects. You'd need to fix that manually via a hex editor, since (because gudenau simply might not have been aware) equipment with effects usually lock at 2 when you're making them from scratch.

Beyond that I'm fairly sure there shouldn't be any more issues.

I'm not familiar with the error being caused by this save editor, but if you've done anything with HANS etc recently that loads an old version of smash, you literally have 'a save file that is not the latest version'.

I did find this, though:
A couple minor gotchas. If you have the eShop version of the game, always insert saves that were edited from a newly extracted save, rather than an old one - each save contains four random bytes that change whenever you play the game, and the save will be rejected if they weren't the last ones to be saved

Sorry if this has been asked, but is there a way (or will there in the future be a way) to quickly generate a bunch of random equipment with random (but reasonable stats) to be added to your collection of equipment? I see the program has an equipment editor, but it only allows you to edit one at a time with very specific stats. I'd rather just get a few hundred randomly generated items that are as reasonable with the stats as they are in game, so that I can pick and choose to try and make my customs cool but reasonable for the custom stats, and i don't want to go through the tedious task of generating these items one at a time.

Thanks!!

it sounds extremely doable, imho, as soon as the cheat flag is cracked.

I hadn't looked over these past few pages until now, I can see that the cheat flag issue is a concern, especially for those wanting to transfer customs to the Wii U (which yes, I definitely do want to be able to do that). As such I can see and understand why understanding the cheat flag is something to be dealt with first.

Slightly related thought, If you give an amiibo equipment that isn't legal on the 3DS, and try and load it on the Wii U, does the Wii U still take issue with the illegal equipment on the fighter?

Hacked equipment doesn't like showing up in 'sell' menus and likely won't show up in Amiibo menus. Basically, you couldn't feed it one without a good bit of effort
