Konami has created many great games and franchises; however, like many other Japanese companies(*cough**cough*Nintendo*cough*Square*cough**cough*), it has been known to hold out on its Western fans. That is where translators and programmers come together to make the game playable in English because not everyone can read Japanese. Everyone that frequents this website regularly is obviously already aware of this.

Tag Force Special is a game that brings together all generations of the TCG and puts them all together in the same way SSBB does. (No, not really, but imagine Jaden duking it out against Yugi. :3) The game was another game that went the way of Japanese only release, but some amazingly talented people where able to pull together and make the game playable. The translation project thus far has been discontinued, but Clickclaxer01 has been working on translations for the story mode. Some of the translations have been altered for a humorous effect while the main story and plot points have been left unchanged.

I have corresponded with Clickclaxer01 and he has stated that he needs 'someone with C# programming experience that knows how to unpack and repack binary files from psp games'. He would like help with this because he has been working on the project single-handedly and because 'there are certain parts of TFSP that I would like to still translate[,but I need help]with the unpacking and repacking of the binary game files. For instance, the in-duel text speech by some of the non-main characters [is untranslated]. Not everyone is translated yet and it would be nice if someone knows how to make a decoder to rewrite those particular files, but the ability to modify any of the .ehp files that still need translating is what I'm really after.'

This is where you guys come in. If any of you can help Clickclaxer01 out, please leave a comment below.

EDIT: Due to the small amount of responses of any kind( I know, I know, several different projects being requested to work on and a shortage of programmers.), I've decided to add a list below of things that could be worked on to better help anyone wondering what there would be to do.

Potential Areas To Unpack/Repack
  • Duel Subtitles- This refers to the text shown in a speech bubble during a duel. A rather large amount of this has been left untranslated for an entirely understandable reason: lack of practical use. However, I believe some people might wish to know what their opponent is saying at times and it would make defeating your opponent are the better.
  • Card Pack Descriptions- At least one of the card packs is mislabeled and some have text that is broken off mid-sentence. An editing of the translation might create a bit more of a polished look.
  • Character Bios- These were much more beneficial when the character could be given sandwhiches, but it might still be useful for people who have not seen a specific generation of Yu-Gi-Oh (like me) or for the fact that the bios that I have seen in the Tag Force series- albiet English bios - were rather humorous in their own right. Alexis Rhodes, "Madonna of Duel Academy" anyone?
Tools That May Be Created
  • Unpacker/Repacker (obviously)
Suggestions Of Experimental Editing
  • Voices- This would be mostly pointless since it would be a wild goose hunt just to find the American actors saying the exact lines said in the game. However, voice changing would open things up for possibley some hilarious results. Who knows?
  • AI- Literally anything related to the AI in the game: from exposing the coding of it to making your own. If you do this, I shall dub thee Hacker Supreme and you may have my first-born child. Hmm...On second thought, don't hold me to that.

Errrr... So you think it's easy to modify a game? So you think the files are all there, just waiting for someone to change them?

Tell me, have you at least tried to do any of these things before judging the "fan base"? Just asking.

Oh, no no no. I only just realized what the thing about modding might have sounded like. I'm actually happy about all the progress made and things and understand that modding would take a lot of work. I typed that side note up at one point and never really thought about what it might sound like. I apologize for any misunderstandings. I kind of typed it in the middle of the night and it was more of a wish for modding. I meant in no way to imply it would be easy and that there was no effort. Sorry, again.

Hmmm... It's okay. I and others tried to replace the music in the past. We managed to extract and convert them to MP3, but doing the reverse sounds impossible atm.

Also, Omarrrio tried some crazy things in Tag Force games, like edit Duel Puzzles in TFSP and modify 3D models on 5D. But modify Tag Force games seems hard without breaking it somehow or removing something else, mainly the last one. (The adhoc is still broken, btw.)

Oh, I can also say there are ppl doing cool stuff with other Tag Force games in the shadows. Just don't expect they finish it soon.

In short: It's happening, and it's hard.

Currently, the only responses to the thread have been some people saying 'hi'....hmm I think I need to spend some extra time on this to attract some attention...

Good luck with this, i hope you can finish it!
Thanks, but I'm just helping clickclaxer find a programmer. He's doing some great work with translating and after talking to him I found out he'd like to be able to access other parts of the game. I also hope we finish, though.

I know you hate me and everything, but as a rom hacker, if i can even call myself that xD, translating stays to it's true definition, what you want to do is localize.
Now to the hard truth, this isn't GTA, you can't modify everything, the sounds and AI scripts are a bit hard to understand, and no, the sounds cannot be extracted nor reinserted, as for text, i'll gladly send you what you're looking for.
