the vita may be out of my price range.

ive had tones of phat psp's in the past but none now. i never realy wanted or needed a 3000

i want one now but im not sure which one to try and buy. my main use will be for emulators and the such

is the 3000 the only one that plugs into the tv?

id love a vita but can it do all the things i want?

PS-TV, that plays VITA games on your tv is about 40$ new on ebay, its the cheapest and best value by far ... ... ... ... if you want a portable psp, then why pay more for old psp games with a umd drive that breaks after 3 to 5 months of use, in that case just buy a original fat or slim psp. (forget about the psp-go, and psp 3000).

The non-Go PSP have the cheapest memory cards since you can buy adapters and use Micro-SD cards. I don't think you can do that with the Go. I also find the PSP 3k more comfortable to use than the Go although the Go is more pocket friendly. Not really seeing much of a point in getting a Vita if you plan to use it for emulators at this point. If the Vita becomes more suitable for emulators in the future then you can probably sell the PSP and get almost as much as you payed back.

for tv use i would reccomend the ps tv, it has the vita internals, is easily hacked(psp xmb mode) and also plays a lot of vita games

but do i need a ps4 or ps3 to hack it

With 3.52 and 3.55 (the current one), you don't need anything but the download game you must get from psn and then transfer the save and follow the instructions. (with some older versions of the firmware, you unfortunately will need a ps3 or a separate vita that's been hacked already ... so if you just bought a new vita with 3.18 or 3.20 firmware, there's no reason not to update ... there's always new hacking methods popping up lately though).

Many people are also confused too, "ARK" is a complete hack, you don't need to install "TNV", after installing "ARK". Once you install "ARK" you don't have to do anything else. However, since "ARK" is usually easier to install, sometimes you need to install it first if you want the other hack (to have sound in ps1 backups, otherwise there's no reason to use TNV, whenk ARK fixes PS1 sound, then its doubtful people will still go for TNV).

Only get a 1000 if you're using homebrew specifically using its explicit features. It had the underpinnings for TV out, but only the 2000 and newer (and not the Vita) have the capability to support it.

If you intend on using the TV out features a lot, the PSP go is a good choice, for the fact that with the dock and bluetooth abilities, you could pair it up with a PS3 controller to play it on the TV.

PSP 2000 was the last that could run in perma-CFW with IPL patching on 6.60. Anything newer has to be downgraded to 6.20 to run in perma-CFW mode.

All the Vita really gets you is a higher resolution screen, and at least its controls would have the full dual analog that some games require.
