I have a o3ds with fw 9.2 that I want to install cfw on and I have a few questions. It seems rxtools is the most popular fw so I'm installing that. If I have understood everything correctly it is safe to install rxtools via the browser exploit and since you don't make changes to sysnand there is no risk of a brick if you unlink synand from emunand. Can I still use another sd card and use it as normal and only pop in the sd card with the emunand when I want to use rx tools and emunand? And if I want to restore the 3ds to default I can just use a different sd card?

I’m thinking of downgrading just the mset application so that I don't need an intenet connection. Since you need to change sysnand for that, how big of a risk is this downgrade?

Also, should I format the 3ds system memory before beginning with rx tools installation or is that unnecessary?

Use ReiNAND, it supports the N3DS. It has emuNAND support and the signature patches.

You can use a different SD card without rxTools set up, but I don't know if there's much point. RxTools boots when you launch an exploit; so when you boot your 3DS initially, you won't be in any sort of CFW or emuNAND even if rxTools is set up on your SD card.

As long as you follow the directions for downgrading MSET correctly, there's very little risk of bricking. I haven't heard of anybody bricking their 3DS from downgrading MSET as long as they installed the correct MSET for their region.

Is it possible to verrifying the online header by launching pasta or something without GW? I'm using Ninjhax 2.0 with CN on 9.5 with sky3ds^^

I'm really lost with the whole N3DS scene, and I have a couple of questions.

I have a Gateway Red/Blue, OoT (U) and Cubic Ninja (U) and I'm waiting for my unboxed N3DS [J] to get through the mail. I have no idea if it'll be 9.2 or lower firmware. With that in mind:

- If the N3DS is lower than 9.2 firmware, do I need to buy anything else?
- If the N3DS is higher than 9.2 firmware, what should I do, and do I need to buy anything else?
- Is it possible to change SysNAND region, or is it too dangerous?
- Can a hardmod SysNAND backup/restore be accomplished? If so, where are the solder points for the hardware mod on the N3DS?
- Is it necessary to downgrade to 4.x anymore? I'm hoping to get Smash and ORAS working (online too) while being able to use the MSET exploit.
- Which CFW should I use on N3DS if I want to play GBA injections?

Are you saying that I can downgrade an unboxed >9.2J N3DS, despite NAND.bin being unique to each console?

I found a Spanish thread for the solder points so I'll likely do that if I get a <9.2J N3DS. It's good to know I can do the MSET exploit, so thanks for the info.

As for the region-changing I suppose it wouldn't be too bad to only have it in EmuNAND, so I'll just do that.

EDIT: Actually I should ask, what is the likelyhood of a full-blown CFW running on Ninjhax 2.0? Should I just wait for that?

No, you can't downgrade a >9.2J N3DS by hardmodding, sorry for the confusion.

I have no idea about Ninjhax 2.0, I haven't kept up with it recently.

That's okay, I think I got the answer I was looking for.

Now I'm considering getting either a Sky3DS or waiting out a new exploit, but I think I'll see what happens by the time my N3DS comes through the mail. Maybe I'll do the hardmod in the meantime.

If I'm converting retail game ROMs to CIAs and installing them on my emuNAND (running patched rxTools), does all the stuff about private headers apply to me? If it does, then where can I find more information about it?

Things like local multiplayer and StreetPass don't care about the headers, right?

Also, what if my console is European, but my ROM is American (patched with the simple CIA converter)? Should I use a European or an American private header?

Hey! So recently I've found out about what a Gateway is and what a emuNAND is.
It's so cool, I would love to use it aswell! Well... Unfortunately I've found out waaaayyy to late.. My main 3ds is on version 9.9

However, I have a 3DS XL lying arround which I've never turned on and I have it since last year august.
My question is, what system version is a newly unboxed 3ds?

I would obviously just check it for myself, but unfortunately I can't. I'm not home for a week :'x

General question: What do I miss out on by upgrading past 9.5.0.22? From what I understand, you can still use the spider exploit through Homebrew, but you can't eShop spoof on this firmware or inject GB/NES/GBA games. What good is the spider exploit, then?

Does rxTools 2.6 have cia signature checks disabled per default or do you have to apply a patch somehow? Can you install cias without a valid signature with fbi?

I need some help!, I've been trying to play Animal Crossing, Japanese region
(Tobidase! Doubutsu no Mori by Kirin)

I keep getting this message when trying to run the game: "An error has occurred and was forced to close, system will restart"

I'm on Reinand, new 3DS with the 9.5 usa and installing with Big Blue Menu

Edit: It may not be the region because I applied a Region Free patch to my
3ds and it still doesn't work..

According to the system update history for both Nintendo of America/Japan (Europe doesn't list dates for their updates unfortunately), version 9.0.0 came out at around early October.

So your untouched 3ds would most likely be on version 8.1.0 at most.

For unboxed 3ds, you will need to find out the serial number (which can be found on the box, on the manual, on the 3ds itself).

I apologize if this has already been answered, but the information i can see is confusing.

I HAVE

1) O3DS with sysnand < 9.3 and greater then 4.5. it's 7.something
2) a blue button sky3ds.
3) a non dsi compatible ds flashcart (useless on 3ds i think)

ninjhax, ironhax, and tubehax shoudl all be possible.

I understand that sky3ds can play 3ds dumps from anything before fire emblem fates.

I understand that ninjhax works on sysnand 9.9 and can be used only for homebrew, and that sky3ds cant' do CIAs.

I understand that it's possible to use 4.5 CFW, and that there's also pasta cfw. I understand that Pasta CFW uses sysnand, and there's a risk of bricking from CIA installs.

I wish to be able to play all unsigned CFAs, without risking sysnand.

I believe that gateway (which i do not have) with sysnand 9.2 or lower can probably do everything.

I know rxtools can get you into emunand without gateway, but then you can't run unsigned CIAs.

AS understand it, my options are

1) get a gateway, it shoudl do everythign cause my O3DS is old enough.
2) buy a dsi flashcart that works on 4.5, downgrade to that, then install 4.5 cfw, but be unable to use newerunsigned CIAs. emunand can be used, but only for legit stuff.
3) use cubic ninja rom and ninjhax to get me homebrew. update sysnand to 9.2. install pastacfw to it with homebrew launcher. be unable to use emunand with pastacfw. Use rxtools for emunand when needed for legit stuff.

Is there a way to patch emunand for installation of CIAs without a gateway? I don't like the idea of risking sysnand.

I use Reinand with Big Blue Menu, You need Cubic Ninja, follow the guide "From Zero to Reinand" posted by @usernametaken and you're good to go

So I got screwed.
I got a Gateway 3DS, then I got a cubic ninja, and I got a N3DS with 9.0.0.
I followed all the Gateway instructions, I updated the emuNAND, and I tried to put in the MSET exploit. The sysNAND should be 9.0.0 if I remember correctly.
When I was testing the MSET exploit, it was fine.
I restarted my N3DS, and then suddenly the cubic ninja exploit doesn't work anymore.
I looked at the System Settings, suddenly my sysNAND is 9.9.0!
I don't know what happened, not sure whether my N3DS automatically updated..

I do have a sysNAND backup, but how do I use it if I can't even get into the Gateway Menu?

What exactly is the OoT or NC exploit and why do I, if I do, need it?
I watched through the video on the Gateway website but the exploit was never mentioned.

I don't have a 3DS yet but am looking into buying a N3DSXL with a Gateway flashcard. I'll probably just stop by a BestBuy or a Target to pick up the console.

How fast/often is Gateway updated? Should I just wait until the current version of firmware is supported?

Wow that sucks, at least you have a backup. I think your only option is to hard mod. You need to be able to weld well and be very careful or you could break the 3ds

You need to start reading online because there's a MASSIVE amount of info you need to read on. The short quick version is that you need to be at 9.2 or below at ALL times. If you have a new 3DS then you need Cubic Ninja to run the Gateway exploit or you could look into Iron Hax / Youtube Hax. You may want to look for usernametaken's thread, from Zero to Reinand, that's what I did.
