i want to remove it from the windows itself like you do when you unninstall a program..
i don't use the account..
I didn't mean MS account, even local ones. These programs normally stay even after you uninstall them. If you create a new user account, the ones you deleted will come back on that new user. So do you want to remove it from your user account and when you create a new one it will be installed on that account or remove it in a way that it will only come back if you install it from Store?

Some people claim they've successfully activated Windows 10 after upgrading from a pirated Windows 7 install, but YMMV.
You'll be able to revert to Windows 7 for a month after the upgrade, why a month I have no idea.
Yes, DAZ + Win7 upgrades to fully activated Win10. If your Win7 was Pro or Ultimate, you'll get Win10 Pro. When you're in Win10, you can get your Win10 key this way if you need it for a clean install: http://winaero.com/blog/how-to-get-the-windows-product-key-without-using-third-party-software/

Would Windows 10, for sure keep every single file/app, all the saved registry settings, bookmarks, etc when I go to Windows 10, get the key, then roll back to 7 afterwards? I want to make doubly sure I can do that before I make the dive. And i assume for both times (Windows 10 first time on main HDD, second time on second HDD), I can use the upgrade tool both times.

I had a registry setting enabled for verbose output during boot/shut down and it still worked after Windows 10 installed.

i upgraded, it seems every single option was kept.. i had a portuguese windows, installed with english langauge pack, and since my mouse is broken i use MouseKeys thing on accessibility, and everything was kept...

i even had my clock costumized (we use a 24 clock, and i changed it to have a extra part saying the time in PM or AM (for example "19:32 7PM" ) after upgrade still uses that...
it didn't broke or changed my boot options (i have dual boot with linux, use linux boot thing)

only thing was not kept i can notice is the start menu things.. the pinned programs i had, are now on most used..

Well, that's fair enough, but what of programs like those installed via Steam (in this case, Source Filmmaker)?

Good to know, I guess my only concern now is the stability of my internet, I need a better connection (good WiFi instead of Ethernet over Power) if I'm to upgrade. So perhaps I can burn it to a DVD?

i guess you can download it from microsoft, but i think for get the free key it requires you to use the windows update option...
i downloaded via windows update, and let it install, when my computer restarted, all i noticed was the differnet layout and it was much faster at booting.. (my computer was about 30 seconds up to 1 minute to load, now its about 10 seconds) but everything seemed like it was before (like options and programs)
its 1 or 3 gb download (cant remember exactly)
if you are getting an error to download the update, you need to delete some files on the windows directory (leftovers from other updates i think..)

i seen on the faq that it would warn if incompatible programs would give problems, and about media center being gone, but no such warning appeared for me.. and so far everything works

on the control painel, you can even see some leftovers from the windows 7, like the old backup and restore options.. it even says in parenthesis "windows 7"
so i am kinda thinking windows 10 will grab lots of stuff from your old OS..

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

forgot to tell, i was really annoying about using windows update for install the new OS (or at least bring that shit reserving "app" that appeared next to clock, i preefered the old way of downloading an iso and use a flash drive or a disc to update\install.. but this way it made it super easy and friendly
but after solving the download issue (deleting download cache or whatever) i just had to wait some minutes to download, then install was pretty simple and nice, i think i had to wait about 30 minutes or 1 hour (i am bad at keeping track of time)
but the only setup it required was selecting an option so i could turn off all that privacy options (like sending details to microsoft)
i didnt liked the shitty messages like "hang on, sit and relax while we do this" or "hello" like computer was talking to me... it was a gliche, but the install was smooth and had to do anything..
after install, it booted and was ready to use

If I recall, the only way to keep both OSes is to update first with the update software, install 10 with everything intact, grab the product key for 10 (keep it somewhere where you can retrieve it). From there, downgrade back to 7, then download the ISO for 10 and burn it to a disc then you can install it with the a second drive since you now have the key. It sounds simple enough, maybe it's how long I need to spend doing it is what bothers me the most :P What option do I actually choose when installing that keeps everything?

Edit: I assume that when I roll back to seven, my key won't be revoked? I understand the first time will be easier to use the updater, I assume using a DVD/ISO the second time will be better.

if you upgrade it using the windows update, you get the key, and an option appears saying you can go back to windows 7, so you have to do that for grab the key...
after that, you will have to use the dvd\usb drive to boot and make a clean install, you probably have to install it either on a second hdd or partition the hard drive..
for partition the hardware i reccomend you to shrink it using disk managment

@the_randomizer i will take the change, i will roll back to win7 and make a dual boot install, i had a 32 bits windows 7, since i spent so many time putting it my way i want to keep it but want to upgrade to 64.. so, will go back to windows 7 and install the 64 bits win 10 pro, i will tell you what happens

edit: fuck this shit, it says teh files to roll back were deleted... fuck... i didnt used ccleaner neither anything.. how the hell they were deleted...

Those will more than likely be kept as well. All programs I had installed (FL Studio, Chrome, various media players) all still worked and never bitched about registry issues after I updated initially.

Uh....did you back up your files before you went back? Oh shit, maybe I shouldn't do this, then.

not what i meant...

what i mean is, apparently i can't go back to 7... when i try to go back to 7 using the option on settings, it says i can't go back...
picture anexed

i think because i accidentally opened revo unninstalled with created a restore point, and since i had allocated very small size to restore points, or maybe i did something to turn off windows shadow copy...
i don't know what i did, but i guess i can't roll back now..
sadly i now don't know what to do, i dont want to clean install to have a 64 bits windows...

Then I don't know, if you make a second partition, you can get a Windows 7 ISO and install it WTF is Revo? Great, now I really don't know if I should try to dual boot. Has anyone on here managed to do it with both OSes?

Dammit, maybe I should wait.

revo unninstaller is a unninstaller program that searches and deletes every leftovers like registry and folders found.. its pretty neat, and automatically creates restore points, which since i had allocated a very small size to windows restore points, it may deleted the old ones including the windows 7 related ones...
this is my guess about what happened...
or maybe because the electricity did go down today, and computer didnt liked it..

nay, dont want to get the trouble of installing windows 7, specially a clean install, i wanted to roll back this one, so i could have all my programs and stuff on windows 7 and start over a windows 10 in 64 bits.. but guess it won't happen

If anything, Macrium Reflect makes a 1:1 backup of your drive to external media and has USB boot options from what I've read, so if something does screw up, you can boot to the Macrium Reflect USB and restore.

Not an option, unfortunately, not enough space on either of my HDDs to do that  Both drives are 1 TB each, but both have a lot of stuff on them so I can't 1;1 copy them right now, unless I got a huge USB HDD.

No free clone software, no go.

You don't have an extra hard drive lying around? Clone your current one then upgrade it

Nope, the only one I have is 500 GB and used for Wii backups, which is only FAT32 and I'd need to format to NTFS, not an option, so yeah, shit outta luck I'm afraid. Dammit. :O:sad: Don't have money to spare to get a bigger HDD either, so I'm f*cked six ways from Sunday.

isn't macrium reflect a 200 dollars shareware program?
i remember searching a 1:1 program to backup my hdd which had a faulty windows instalation and i wanted to recover\copy everything i could (even deleted data i had..)
but macrium was 200 dollars and couldnt find a cracked version...

you can use windows backup tools, i think it will split them so it can fit on fat32...

Both HDDs are NTFS only, the Wii HDD is FAT32 only, I don't want to sacrifice it, but is there no way to chose what's cloned? Damn, this is really starting to make me a nervous wreck, I don't want to lose anything.

@Team Fail when I choose to install from a USB device, I assume that's when I enter the Windows 10 key obtained from the first time I had Windows 10, before I rolled back to 7, correct? And with the specially created USB thumb drive, I can just run setup.exe then the key code? Do I have to wipe the second HDD I install to?
