Miiverse to get big redesign on July 29th: Nintendo claims we used it wrong

630x.jpg

Miiverse, a quirky little social networking outlet that Nintendo released for its Wii U, and much later 3DS users, to discuss games and connect with communitites.

Almost like a certain forum outlet we have going on here right? Don't worry Nintendo, we won't sue.

So with every social outlet, sometimes redesigns and changes take place in order to better serve the community. However in this case, Nintendo decided that the community was using the platform... well, wrong. Here's the breakdown.

According to Nintendo's Miiverse spokesperson,
"Miiverse is created for gamers to talk about games," Nintendo spokesperson Erika said on the social network's announcement forum. "But over time, some people have started using Miiverse for other things, such as long chats that are not strictly game-related." The redesign was cooked up in an effort to keep Miiverse "game-centered," and is the reason users will be limited to making 30 posts a day.

To the average Miiverse user that maybe posts a screenshot or two a day, this may not seem like much. However, Miiverse fans are in an uproar over the fact that the one means of social communication that existed between friends and fans, has now had a huge lock placed on it.

Other changes include the ability to have a private screenshot album, a play journal for recording game notes, and a seperate drawing and discussion category, that will most likely still have the post-count lock on them. There will also be changes to the overall look of Miiverse and changes to gaming communities.

So now the big question is, how do you feel about these changes? Did you even use Miiverse in the first place? Does it upset you that Nintendo is further restricting your access to a social platform? Did you know GBATemp doesnt limit your post count and is a great community for discussing games and content..?

Yet they blocked the word `Bastard` which is part of a title from an eShop game...
They also blocked God so you can't talk about Kid Icarus Uprising. And you have to get creative when talking about Dragon Balls or Poke Balls on European Miiverse.

Well, I guess Deus/Deux/Dios and Kami aren't blocked at the very least.

Still if you want to use it just use the letters from the Russian keyboard and it'll allow to bypass. :P

The thing that bothers me is the fact that it continues to support that insinuation that Nintendo has no idea how to offer social aspects to games.

Like, they continue to block Voice chat in games, they dont have any way of creating party systems for social interaction, they don't even have messaging functions for the most part, and now they're further limiting their social interaction?

Nintendo, it's the age of Internet gaming. You have GOT to realize that people enjoy having social interaction in gaming.

I would like to extend that Nintendo is just starting to understand that the internet is here to stay and are finally accepting that fact.

Honestly, you're the first and only person I ever known that likes e-shop design.
I don't have WiiU, but all I hear is it's a mess.
But since you say it's better, then tell me why?
I found it easy to use really. One touch to go to my balance. Also search is also easier. Its a little slow. But hey nothing is perfect

It's bad. Like real bad. It now equivalent to the exaggerations before. I think they are really doing this because it's a free service and they can't keep up.

The new design is up and well, it looks mostly the same but now with the 30 posts limit.

Now on the bright side it doesn't matter if you post continuous as the stupid timer is gone, so they took one shitty thing to replace it with.

If you use the GamePad that is.

I'm pretty sure people rather have that than 30 posts and comments and 1 open post at a time.

Nintendo has given the details of the Miiverse update:

* SCREEN SHOT ALBUM – Saving and organizing screen shots that people
take in games are made easier with the new Screen Shot Album. The
private album can only be viewed by the player and can hold up to 100
screen shots from a variety of games. The images can even be neatly
sorted by game name for easy searching.
* PLAY JOURNAL – With the Play Journal, players can record their
unique game experiences by writing journal entries about games as they
play them. Creating a journal entry is as easy as opening Miiverse while
playing a compatible game, and each entry will include a screen shot
that shows exactly what was happening in the game when the player
pressed the HOME button. The new Play Journal feature replaces the
ability for users to post directly to their own activity feeds.

* NEW LOOK – In the main community for each Wii U and Nintendo 3DS
game, posts will be categorized in three easy-to-browse sections:

* PLAY JOURNAL ENTRIES – All Play Journal entries from players about
a specific game will be located here. By viewing the displayed screen
shots, players can quickly find other players who are in the same
section of the game, making it easy to find relevant tips, comments and
experiences.
* DRAWINGS – Miiverse is full of incredible drawings from fans. This
community section will display artwork other players have created about
the game, in order of popularity.
* DISCUSSIONS – If players want to ask questions or start
conversations about a game, this is the perfect place to do it. The
inclusion of tags in these discussions makes it easier for players to
find what they are looking for.

Did you laugh when they told you there's no HDD bay in the system and the SD slot can only be accessed in Wii Mode? No? Then idiotic storage solutions should come as no surprise to you. ;O;
I do now. When the Wii U launched I didn't had PS3 nor 360 and didn't knew the importance of that.
