I haven't found a clear answer anywhere, so i will just ask here if its ok...

Is there a way to make the blue gateway card without downgrading? to run in an emunand 9.8 (already updated gateway ultra to support 9.9 but havent updated 3DS yet), Im running the emunand with the browser exploit, dont remember the original firmware now but its definitely after the 6.1 or something when they blocked the blue gateway card.

Thanks for the help

Hi guys here's a couple of questions hopefully someone can help.

I'm going to get 3DS and now I'm looking at differences between old and new 3DS.

If I buy N3DS XL:

1) Can rxtools or some other CFW work on it? Will it have emunand support if they do?

2) As I understand, gateway only works up to 9.2 firmware - so if my N3DS is not over 9.2 I'd need all of this right?

-gateway card
-original gamecard (either zelda or cubic ninja)
-save dongle (for zelda)

3) If my N3DS is over 9.2, that leaves me only with sky3ds. Is there a way to have emunand on sky3ds? Or can sky3ds be combined with some CFW for emunand? Mainly, I'd like to never update system firmware on it, is it even possible?

If I buy old 3DS XL that is not over 9.2:

1) Do I need flashcart (gateway or sky3ds)
2) If i don't, which CFW is the way to go?
3) Can all games be played (mainly interested in Pokemon and Monster Hunter 3/4)

N3DS:
1) ReisNAND CFW works on the N3DS and supports emuNAND, but you will still require a copy of Cubic Ninja, or a Sky3DS with Cubic Ninja installed on it.

2) If you decide to go with a Gateway, yes, those are the items you need (alternatively, you can use a Sky3DS with Cubic Ninja installed).

3)Sky3DS does not support emuNAND. If you are above 9.2, you're out of luck for CFW/EmuNAND for the time being.

O3DS:
1) Nope, CFWs for the O3DS can do everything flashcarts can currently.

2) rxTools is probably the best CFW for the O3DS currently.

3) All games that are not exclusive to the N3DS will run via CFW.

Hey everyone, sorry for the long post.

First off just wanted to say thanks for all of the amazing guides/help that is on this forum, it was so helpful in choosing my 3DS+flashcart, and how to install – really appreciated!

I’ve been a bit of an idiot and just was wondering if someone can confirm I haven’t completely screwed up.

I have a New Nintendo 3ds XL running firmware 9.0.0-20E. I bought a Gateway and followed their installation manual that using Gateway Ultra v3.3.

I used the Cubic Ninja exploit and first thing I did like all you recommend is hit the backup SysNand button. However, it wouldn’t turn off so I just thought, hey, I must just put the .bin backup file on my computer at the end. So then I continued on and formatted emunand, updated my gateway card, and then booted into gateway mode.

I switched off the console and put the SD card of the Nintendo DS into my computer, and there was no Sysnand backup file on there – obviously because I’d been an idiot and formatted Emunand, so it had erased it! So I re-did the exploit with cubic ninja, went into gateway mode and backed up the sysnand, forced power off and put the .bin file straight onto my computer.

My question is – have I actually created a backup of the sysnand, or the emunand partition? Ie have I screwed myself and not made a viable backup?

Probably a silly question but just wanted to make sure before I updated my emunand with system update.

Thanks so much in advance – really appreciated!

Hello, I have a few questions about doing these 2 things:

1. play gba games
2. install dlc's to sysnand to use with a retail game card on sysnand (gateway classic mode)

I have an O3ds on 9.2 (sysnand) and 9.8 (emunand) with a gateway, no custom firmwares. It is my understanding that to do these things, I will need to install a custom firmware. What would be the best CF to use for this? Is it possible to install a dlc and use it with a retail game card? Thanks for the help, a lot has changed since I was last here

I made a backup of the emunand and then ran a factory reset to change the NNID. I was able to reinstall my cia files and I am all good. But when trying to load up a ROM it seems that the Saved games is no longer there (Fantasy Life). I do have it backed up so that is all right, but are the game files linked to a NNID? I thought that the save file was save inside the ROM. Can someone correct me if I am wrong?

==Edit==

Maybe it was that I hadnt installed the DLC before I opened it. either way I restored the save and everything is okay now.

Yes, you have made a backup of sysNAND. The Gateway launcher actually doesn't provide a way to make a backup of emuNAND, but you can use emuNAND tool if you want to make a backup of emuNAND as well.

Are you scanning the QR code and getting a black screen? If so, I was having the same problem, but it turns out that the QR code is actually working. Smea's server has been acting up and so download speeds from it are very slow. If you scan it and get the black screen, wait for a while and it will eventually finish downloading the payload it needs to launch Ninjhax. On a 10Mb download speed connection, it took around 5 minutes for the install screen to pop up, so you may have to wait a bit for it.

I have a US 2DS on sysnand 6.0/emunand 9.9 and a retail copy of Pokemon Alpha Sapphire EUR version. Gateway works well on my 2DS, the retail card also works on Gateway Classic Mode. However, every time I put the retail card in, the game update notice appears. After finish downloading the update, nothing changed, the update notice still there. I think it's because of the different region. I've tried installing an update .cia file of the game in EUR but it also doesn't work. Afaik it has something to do with the ticket, but yeah, this is a noob question thread anyway.

Any advice? Thanks in advance.
