@AmeenX you have been a tremendous help. For games with no save (Contra, Double Dragon) does it make a difference which footer you generate? I have not tried yet just seems you have a great track record with working GBA VC.

Can anyone help explain how to use this with the new version of rxTools? I'm wondering, do I need a GBA Ambassador donor game to start with? Thanks.
why do you want to use this with the patched rxTools?
the patched rxTools can run gba CIA's natively, i just tested with kirby and the Amazing Mirror!

You can run GBA on rxmode emunand if you install the same cia on both sysnand and emunand (linked or not).
Of course, you must use AGB patched rxtools

@AmeenX Thanks for helping with your Hex and footer for Pokemon Emerald, but for some reason it just isn't working!

I've made sure I edited the correct areas and I compiled the cia with the right game. It's SRAM Patched and a Trashman dump and I'm using your provided footer. However, it still says "Save Failed. Checking backup memory." error message when saving. I'm using rxTools for this, if that helps.

Please help me, what am I doing wrong?

I never tried a rom with the same region as my 3ds, but I HAD to install the patched AGB firm on both sys and emunand for it to even boot. Maybe we don't need it for same-region roms? Does your kirby rom and your 3ds share the same region?

Okay I can finally confirm now, I had one bad rom, and one good one working now, but I had to install the patched AGB firm. They are both eur roms, running on my USA 3ds!

Interesting. I'll see if EUR GBA rom can run in here without this patch.
I had all the trouble for converting kirby's 3DS ROM into CIA just because i couldnt find an USA CIA version LOL

Question, is there any way to keep a previous save when making a CIA? I really don't wanna replay FF I on dawn of souls since i'm near the end and want to start II.

As long as they work use whatever, if you cant make them work check the previous post and see how apach thunder made pokemon movies rom work!

it might not allow for region free, signature checks and region free are different things.
but, the cias riku's gba cia tool creates are most likely region free themselves - so it is not an issue.
what i mean is, agb firm does not check the region, but your home menu checks the region and locks you out.
if you force load the game, by using devmenu to boot it, then agb will boot even it even if it is out of region.
for the agb firm/gba game themselves, i doubt region is even taken into account

same applies to normal 3DS games, its actually the homescreen that deals with the games region as defined by the icon file, which is why if you install something that out of region on a non region free cfw you will see the square for the icon appear (with no icon) and then disappear as the 3DS reads the icon and realizes its not for the correct region and rejects it, so when booted via dev menu it basically skips the icon file being checked before booting the game

its also the same method regionthree and regionfour work.....initiate booting the game directly rather than via the homesceen to bypass region checks

Not as far as we know. Haven't got a solid answer from them "up above", but it's not looking good.
I've been quite enjoying playing through Guru Logic Champ again actually - but I'm glad it's not a massive rpg.

Has anyone managed to figure out how to get Super Mario Advance 4 working?

You have to hex-edit your rom, as explained for Pokemon games. Then when your first launch the game, create a save data, the screen will be shaking, and you have to reboot the game to make it work. It will just say that your save is corrupt at every start up, but it works.
