So essentially a truck full of Splatoon: Special Edition was stolen and as such retailers like GAME were not able to process the orders they had which customers were expecting to receive. Just damn.. amiibos were intended to be fun little collectible toys for Nintendo fans and kids.
To be honest, the Squid amiibo while it looks good I'd rather purchase instead the Boy amiibo instead.

Anyway, I'm just glad that I've received my Greninja and Jigglypuff amiibos plus more.

No I don't think that was ever the plan. If it was, Nintendo wouldn't be making 10 of each and then discontinuing them. Amiibos are for Nintenyearolds with too much money, or too much free time. I'd say "for collectors" but that's just a gigantic insult to collectors.

But...that's exactly what they ARE. I have no idea how you think someone stealing a truck full of 'em changes that fact in any way. And to be honest, I don't even think I want to know.

As for the heist itself...I think it's either
A) a group of youngsters who are so bored they try to enact GTA V scènes (because y'know...joyriding isn't fun anymore since everybody else already did it).
B) a group of thugs who accidentally robbed the wrong truck (or perhaps to practice co-operation for a real heist? Though that's pretty unlikely, if you ask me).

I paid a scalper on eBay $55 with free shipping for the Splatoon amiibo 3-pack. I'm pretty pissed I even have to do that, when it should be readily available on store shelves. I bought it yesterday, since the price for the 3-pack is only going up and up, and on average is about $65 to $70 now on amazon.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Just in case you weren't joking:

The 'scalpers' thing Wiicube often mentions is blown way over proportion. Yes, there'll be a few handfull of fans who will pay above average for it, but even then, these robbers know they won't be able to make at best about 1 tenth of the value of the lorry in the first place. Meaning: they could've picked plenty of other truck with more expensive content.

Someone who didn't preorder in time will at worst just rob or break into the game store.

I know you pretty much never know what you're talking about, but in this case especially you do realize that a hefty portion of amiibos are currently sold via scalpers, right? Really, go on ebay and similar sites and they're just loaded with scalpers selling amiibos. You didn't think that guy walking out of the store with a cart full of 15 of each amiibo was just an avid collector, did you? Amiibos are a gold mine right now. You're basically guaranteed that any amiibo you buy for retail cost will net you a profit of double or more what you paid. That doesn't happen in a healthy market with only a small bit of scalping (well I use 'healthy' loosely here. healthy would mean equal supply to equal demand, but with Nintendo...we ain't gonna get that).

As for the robbers they obviously just hit the first truck they saw without the slightest bit of preparation to find one of value. They got excited and hit the first thing they saw like a pack of retards and got a bunch of manchild collectibles. Pretty shitty for them. Pretty sure even if cops showed up at the scene, they'd take one look in the truck and go "oooh..ouch" and pat the poor guys on the back and say "maybe next time."

You are really haven't fun with this Amiibo situation, right? Nintendo is already restocking old waves. Not really at fault if scalpers and robbers are getting to them first.

Ugh...You know that correlation doesn't mean causation, right?

Look...I know those amiibos are pretty damn popular and way more in demand than the current offering. Hence: people buying the things to sell them at higher prices. But those "ebay and similar sites" aren't loaded with scalpers...it's just that they are offering their goods there like everyone else. The fact that you see them is because you go to these sites and type "amiibo". Of course you'll find those guys selling them. It's not rocket science.

What you fail to understand is that this very action (going there and looking at that) is limiting your perception of reality. If you want to get a certain amiibo and you'll find it sold out everywhere but on ebay sites where it's sold at a higher rate...THEN it makes sense that someone will heist a truck full of 'em to join these sales.

But if you look at it on a broader scope, you'll find that as soon as the interest in those amiibo's lowers, those very salesmen (scalpers) will lower their price as well. And with this, you especially know it's coming, because nintendo just makes another batch of the things. It doesn't take a marketing genius to predict that the prices will drop. This is like stealing a truck full of pumpkins just before halloween. Sure, there'll be some people upset that their only way to get their decoration is through "scalpers", but after halloween passes, nobody is going to give a shit about those things.

I think you know this as well. The fact that you mention the "right now" in the gold mine is what I'm pointing at. As well as that you notice it's not a healthy market. I can't agree more: it isn't. Prices will drop. And if you think I "pretty much never know what I'm talking about", I'm willing to bet about it with you: within two years, the majority of those dolls will be sold on ebay for at best a couple bucks above the standard asking price.
