Hi, I don't know if this is the right place for it but I didn't want to make a whole thread for it.
so I finally decided to buy a flashcart for my 3DS XL, and since it's 9.4 the only flashcart that works is sky3ds.
Should I get it or wait and see if gateway is going to release an update for the 9.4 sysnand?
what should i do?

Don't wait. Either get sky3ds or sell your 3ds and buy a 9.2 one. There has been little indication of a gateway update to support later firmware.

What's the best cart? I want a cart with multiple games on one sd card compatibility.

Gateway has more functionality. Sky3ds has more fw compatibility. Both will play multiple games off a single microsd card. If your 3ds is on firmware 9.2 or lower and you're willing to do some reading/digging/googling to get up and running, I'd say go gateway. If you don't like to read and don't need homebrew and extra functionality, sky3ds is pretty plug-n-play. There is also Pastacfw which brings to the table similar functionality to gateway without a flashcart. There are downsides to Pasta and a few incompatible games, but if it were me now, I'd probably wait for Pasta to get fleshed out a bit before deciding on whether I need a flashcart at all.

So, two questions (some repeated, because they weren't answered/properly):
1. Is their a public way to make clean dumps of 3DS games and/or DSi carts?
2. Is their any way to run a dumper on a dev 3DS? Or get a dev-3DS-only cart to run on a normal 3DS?

1. I have not heard of any method other than gateway. That is not to say someone has not built something like those 5 units that were built for the Wii U.
2. You are the first person I have seen mention a dev-3DS or dev-cart on this forum. That is kind of an expert level question. My suggestion is to make a post in the rom hacking sub and see if anyone knows anything about it there. The people with that kind of knowledge and experience generally don't hang out in the noob thread. Good luck.

Hi all

Looking to buy a 3DS cart and I've had R4s etc in the past for DS.

I currently have an EU 3DS XL - 9.5.0-22EE
and an EU New 3DS XL - 9.7.0-25E

Essentially I'm looking to play 3DS roms meaning Sky3DS is my best bet right?

Only concern is that I want to also play imports from Japan too if possible. Then what would be the best choice? Or my 'only' choice.

I understand that due to having 9.5 firmware Gateway may be out of the question for now.

Tasukete kudasai!

EDIT: Pastacfw is from Smea? Will that allow me to do everything? If so I might wait. More details/help in regards to that if possible <3

1. Interesting. So are there any known hardware methods?
2. I will. Thanks

I have never heard of any other than gateway. Aren't scene dumps supposed to be clean? Those are usually readily available.

Sky is your only option for a cart. Pasta requires 9.2, sorry.

Personally in my opinion the best option is to sell a console and buy an exploitable one and take the $30-$50 hit. (The price of 1 game).

I believe there solution called regionfour that allows region free on sky. Run a search for it.

Pasta is not from smea, but the exploit it uses is.

I'm probably gonna sound completely stupid by asking, but here I go anyway:

Is it safe to update New3DS emuNAND to the latest firmware? (9.7 I believe?) I've been lurking some threads for a while and haven't found anything on my own. So I just wanted to ask and verify now before I screw up my emuNAND.

kthx.

No! That is so stupid! :)

9.5 is the highest for new 3DS.

Make sure up you make a backup of emuand on a regular basis with emuand tool so you if you do screw it up you dont loose to much.

I'm not even gonna update emunand till latest support comes out. Seems to be the safest. Are there any games that require over 9.0 ?
Yes there are. 3DS.essh.co lists all the firmwares. However GW has fw spoofing so most will still play on 9.0 emunand.

I take a little different view. 3DNUS will currently let you upgrade to anything you want, but that exists at Nintendos pleasure. If it gets taken down you are sol. The emunand partition is small by today's standards and keeping backup copies of all the versions you can just increases your options. May never need them but you never know.

I would backup with Emunand tool, upgrade, back that up and then use whatever one you want for now. Having options is a good thing.

I want to take the header off a 3DS game I own and insert it into my Pokemon backups so I can safely play online, no idea what I'm doing though. Is there a good guide out there on how to do this?

Also system version doesn't matter to be safe online right? I haven't updated emunand for a while.

I'll get into that when my gateway gets here Monday. Doesn't sound to difficult.

System version does not matter. Check the tutorials section for a guide, I have not done it as it just seemed easier to get via files for online games. I read about it a while ago and it didn't seem all that hard. If there isn't a guide there search this sub for "header" or online header and it should be easy to find one.

Maybe this was asked before but I was wondering, if out there is patching tool that would make your cias look legit to the console FW?? what is the difference between a legit and non legit cias, why devs can patch region and private headers but not the legit status??? Not a dev here only a dog barking to the moon.

Am I the only one who cannot connect to go.gateway? And therefore launch my emunand :/ I noticed that the maxconsole forums are down, but haven't noticed any threads mentioning inability to do this?
oh nvm, I've been always using the go.scmods tried the actual go.gateway and it worked

Is a region four patched save file future proof from nintendo updates? (if i wanted to update, would the card still have region free)

I want to buy Inazuma Eleven Go Galaxy Big Bang and I'd hate for a patch to come make it unplayable.
