I've only seen that on an emulator. Happened quite frequently when testing a hack I made to the game, and it happened both with the translation patch and without. Never happened on my psp.

Only ever saw it on PPSSPP though I never thoroughly tested on any other emulator.

Stupid idea: Maybe it's one of those crazy methods of copy protection? The game thinks it's being run on an emulator and deliberately doesn't load the terrain. Earthbound did something similar, what with deliberately crashing right before the final boss and deleting all your saves.

No idea... but 99% of our testing for PKP was on the PSP since that is the audience we were targeting and also we have no control over bugs in PPSSPP.

Figured I'd try catching it on video, so I could show what I'm talking about. I always assumed it was something with emulation or the core game myself, but considering how Viralz said it happened on real hardware for him (I'm assuming it's an issue in the same vein based on his descriptions) I suppose that first option is off the table. Will edit post with video link once it's done processing.

EDIT: Video is up!

Yes, it looks really bad. Yes, the sound is off-sync. Have yet to really figure OBS out, but... A few loads of that state at the end of that battle and the issue happened again, on the latest dev version of the emulator. It's a lot less common in actual play, I just got lucky here. Not sure if this will help, but I can definitely reproduce this issue if need be.

Hello I don't know if this is a problem or something that has been posted before, but I am using PPSSPP to try to play this game and of course I have to shut off something for the game to even play (in Japanese) otherwise the thing just crashes or stays eternally black. Anyways I got the ISO you recommended patched the game successfully and when I try to load it up (after patching the ISO) the emulator immediately crashes. Is there anything I can do to prevent this or another emulator that will run PKP with the english patch? or do I have to play the whole game in Japanese to be able to play it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can get it to run by following these instructions:

PKP "broke" with Build v0.9.8-1054-g0f16872 of PPSSPP when FuncReplacement was set to True by default.

This runs on the latest build if Function Replacement is turned off.

Edit memstick\PSP\SYSTEM\ppsspp.ini and under [CPU] replace
FuncReplacements = True

with
FuncReplacements = False

So under that condition it is playable and the patched ISO will work fine.

Not really unless its a game breaking bug...

I am working on another project for the PSP and its gotten to the point where I do not want to go back to either LPR or PKP. Since doing those two projects, I have learned ASM for the PSP and have learned how to add variable width font to a game and fix just about anything I want to spend the time. Heck the current game I am working on only supports 39 chars per line of text displayed and was able to insert 96 chars per line and fix the memory hell that occurs after doing it.

We are getting pretty close to having most of the text translated in the new project (70% complete) and then we can start the bug hunting. Its an RPG that I absolutely love and we only got the first one in english on the PSP.

Forgive me if I am out of the loop ChepChep but what is the new project you are working on out of curiosity? Thanks for the hard work you put on this patch. I skipped this when it was out on the PS2 and glad I experienced this on the PSP. Still favor La Pucelle more but I loved the humor and the gridless combat used in a better game than Phantom Brave was.

we only got the first one in english on the PSP.
Is the game Mana Khemia 2 Portable +?

Someone's a little hopeful for Mana Khemia 2 Portable.

But really, it is a shame they did never bring that over, especially since we got Mana Khemia 1 for PSP as well. My expectation is that there ended up being too many bugs to get through combined with the PSP's shoddy market in the West.

Always bugged me they could never fix that bug with the Ultimate Weapon recipes in the PSP Mana Khemia. Not that I ever needed it to beat those bosses. Would certainly support MK2 Portable as a solid choice if he was doing that. I ended up skipping that one on the PS2 and never got around to it later.

There was a bug about getting the Ultimate Weapon recipes in MK1 PSP? I never noticed, I guess I never got them.

Of course right now we're assuming that MK2 is what he's doing. Who knows. Maybe he's doing that Antiphona menu translation I requested way back when. I guess mostly it's down to waiting and seeing what Chep announces at all.

So I'm running into the problem XpanD has, as well as getting an unresponsive black screen every time I go to 'A Rival Appears!' with Alexander's introduction. I used Babylon to make the maps in that chapter, and I can watch the cutscene but when it's supposed to transition to combat (or I skip it) it's just an unresponsive black screen. I edited the .ini file FuncReplacement's to false, and it still occurs (I didn't start a new save file, I used the old one that I had started when FuncReplacement was set to true.) It also doesn't let me use the F-keys to load chapters or anything. It may be a PPSSPP issue, I'll try with another emulator.

If anyone has any advice on how to fix this or what the problem might be that'd be awesome.

Thanks in advance.
