The pokemon games are region locked from cartridges because nintendo use the icon to tell the region, I've read.
The eShop version uses the titleid, which is the same in all regions I know of.

Confusion isn't just a pokemon move I guess.

My take is that you should only update if you are looking to 'exit' from sysnand to another exploitable system (like via system transfer). A 9.7 sysnand is still better than a 9.8 (which might come next week, who knows?)

It's not the icon which block (else it would not appear), so they are region free.
They are pseudo region-locked because the update in the cartridge is not from your region.

I'm using a USA 3DS Xl (not new) and my cubic ninja wants to run the old exploit (regionthree). As soon as I select qr code, the game runs the old exploit and obviously just crashes. I've already removed the launcher.dat from regionthree, I've removed folders named private, scripts and mset from the sd card. Is there something lingering from regionthree that's preventing me from using regionfour properly? I'm on the latest firmware. Thanks for anyone's help. :)

i think you mean ninjhax, not regionthree. to uninstall ninjhax you need to clear cubicninja's savegame, which can be done by holding L+R+X+Y in cubicninja's main menu.

Q: I have Cubic Ninja but it already has a QR qave on it, how do i erase it?
Cubic Ninja keeps crashing back to home menu.

[EDIT]
I have to say, it has the Gateway 3.1.1 QR code on it, i used it once for testing on a N3DS
So that save is still there, it tries to launch the gateway stuff.

[EDIT]
i think you mean ninjhax, not regionthree. to uninstall ninjhax you need to clear cubicninja's savegame, which can be done by holding L+R+X+Y in cubicninja's main menu.

Nevermind the question :)

Thanks again for the quick response, didn't realize you had to hold those buttons for about 5 seconds. Worked like a charm, thanks again for your efforts! :D

The 5 seconds did the trick :)

Also confirmed working with Sky3DS IF you do the following:
- Write Cubic Ninja to your Sky3DS
- Now Write your Import game (Out of region game) you want to play, right AFTER Cubic Ninja
- Plug in Sky3DS into your N3DS or 3DS and switch till you get to Cubic Ninja
- Start Cubic Ninja and scan the QR Code you made for your system
- Look at the TOP screen for the onscreen instructions, Save with "A" and Start the exploit
- Now press the blue button on your Sky3DS and wait till the led stops
- Press "START" and wait till your game boots

Tested with
- Cubic Ninja (EUR)
- Nanatsu No Taizai - The Seven Deadly Sins - Unjust Sin (JPN)

NOTE I:

- Keep in mind that Sky3DS doesn't show your out of region game icon, it just stays blank
- If you want to stop your game and press HOME, the system freezes, you can prevent this by removing the game cart and then pressing HOME
- If you already pressed HOME and your screen frooze, just remove the game cartridge and press home again.

NOTE II:
- If you want to play again, you have to recycle throu all your games again till you are back at Cubic Ninja, to prevent cycling, it's best to go out and find a cheap copy of Cubic Ninja :)

[EDIT]:
Seems you can write a few out of region games after cubic ninja and switch to first game, don't push start, switch to second games and play (or switch to 3th game or 4th :P )

A region locked game shouldn't show the cartridge.

It's still a region-locked game, though it display the icon, but the updates of the game are region-free.

Get a foreign one if you don't trust us and try it on your 3DS and then you'll see it's also region-locked, like every other 3DS games.

If it was region-free, it would work on any 3DS, whatever the region.

yeah the pokemon games are just a weird exception to how the region lock is normally implemented, afaik the icon file signifies that its region free, but something else is what blocks it from launching, haven't really looked into it, but it might just be determined by what region system update is on the cart or something

First, sorry for the crappy video, but i almost never upload something to youtube :P

Uploaded a Video of Cubic Ninja retail cart and Sky3DS. (N3DS XL FW 9.0.7-25E)
As you can see on the end, i press the HOME button to show you the freezing and how to get it fixed (Yes, just remove the game cart :P ) without pressing long the power button to turn (N)3DS off

This video shows regionfour working with Cubic Ninja and an out of region game, both on Sky3DS, The out of region games is written right behind Cubic Ninja, or another place, as long as you know how many time you have to switch for the correct game. (N3DS XL FW 9.0.7-25E)

the vram is one advantage when it comes to AI but ends up being slower even with that and really AI is the only use case that needs more than 12gb vram right now

    Interesting lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think I watched a video where two games at 4K where eating just over 16GB of RAM and it's the one case where the 7900XT and XTX pulled ahead (minus RTX of course)
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
So my opinion is that they could age a bit better in the future, and maybe AMD will continue improving them via drivers like they tend to do. No guarantee there but they have done it in the past. Just a feeling I have.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
cyberpunk at 4k without DLSS/fidelityfx *might* exceed 12gb

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but that game barely runs at native 4k
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think it was some newer games and probably poorly optimized PS4 or PS5 ports
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
they definitely will age better but i feel dlss might outweigh that since it looks about as good as native resolution and much less demanding
    +1

When I played Cyberpunk on my old 2080 Ti it sucked lol
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
AMD could introduce something comparable to DLSS but nvidia's got a lot more experience with that
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
least amd 7xxx has tensor cores which the previous generations didn't so there is the potential for AI upscaling
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
They have FSR or whatever it's called and yeah it's still not great
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
so AMD seem to finally be starting to take AI seriously
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Oh yeah those new 8000 CPUs have AI cores built in that's interesting
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Maybe they plan on offloading to the CPU?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Would be kinda cool to have the CPU and GPU working in random more
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Tandem even
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i think i heard of that, it's a good idea, shouldn't need a dedicated GPU just to run a LLM or video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the nvidia shield tv has AI video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
LLMs can be run on cpu anyway but it's quite slow

Have you ever been beaten by a wet spaghetti noodle by your girlfriend because she has a twin sister, and you got confused and fucked her dad?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I had a girlfriend who had a twin sister and they would mess with me constantly.... Until one chipped a tooth then finally I could tell them apart.... Lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
They would have the same hair style the same clothes everything... Really messed with my head lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
