Hey, when I try to inject the edited ram and go into acnl back again, it instantly freezes. any suggestions what could be wrong? i injected of course outside of a building.

Thank you in advance!

you're supposed to inject inside of buildings

and besides, you're giving us a very vague description of what you're encountering.

more info would be helpful

I had the same problem you had for a past week; I bricked my copy and the ABXY method didn't work at all.

But somehow, I just fixed my game today. It looks like the Save Restore from NeoKamek's thread fixes the problem if you use it in the loading screen before the error happens.

EDIT: Make sure you wipe out the entire save file, otherwise you'll fall into the same problem again.

How did you manage to make this work? I've been stuck in a crash loop since this morning and I can not get the ABXY trick to work so I referred to this. Even when I use a backup from far before I had this problem, I get the red or black screen followed by a crash that causes the entire system to restart. I am using a physical copy, if that means anything.

I'm wondering how it possible to use save restore without starting the game first?

And to prevent double posting, does anyone have any suggestions, actually? Because I am totally stumped and can not afford a new one. I had no problem playing yesterday and it wasn't until I tried to boot the game today that I experienced any crashing. I've had no problems with Marc's editor, the map editor, or NeoKamek's leaf tools before this and have always been very careful.

I'm actually trying to figure out what caused this crash. My town looked like this for over a week with no problem. (See spoiler)

All I did yesterday was use the ram editor to move all the villager houses one square forward and I added stumps to the top of the waterfalls because I thought it would be fun to slide down them. Then, in-game with Isabelle, I placed a metal bench near my cafe. I didn't think there would be any issues with those changes. (And since this town has very little development, there are almost no PWP placed.)

There are currently 8 villagers in my town, with one camper move-in that was either supposed to happen today or tomorrow. Any ideas of what I should change, assuming I manage to reset my game? (I don't know why ABXY will not work. I hold it down from the time I start the game.)

Alright, I think it would be useful for a few people here if I shared this possible solution for games that stop functioning where the ABXY reset won't work.

This is what happened to me.
  • I dumped my file, edited a few minor things in Marc's editor, then injected. There were no problems or crashes whatsoever for the rest of this day. (4/26/15)
  • I booted the game the next day (4/27/15). The loading train showed up for a moment before force closing the game with an error that force restarted the 3DS. (See attachment)
  • Things I tried included
    1. Holding ABXY at start to prompt the restart. Did not work.
    2. Used NeoKamek's save restore as suggested by Belphybear who said it worked for them. Did not work.
So after 3 hours of frustration, a thought occurred. Many people will take note of the date they last played their game before going on hiatus so that they can time travel to the last day they played to prevent any damage.
Seeing as I couldn't boot the game to change the time through Isabelle, I changed my 3ds clock to the last day my game was properly functioning. (In this case, 4/26/15)

The game booted up perfectly as it did the day before. This gives me the opportunity to figure out what may had caused the problem and inject a backup accordingly.

Just thought I should share.

What do you mean the ABXY will not work? It should work, just like it does in any pokemon game.
Make sure you're doing it correctly!

I literally mean it will not work. I've done ABXY on other games, but when I was experiencing this problem with this game, ABXY did not trigger the reset prompt. I was not the only person who experienced this issue under the same circumstances. (Where our game functioned properly one day, but not the next.) However, I managed to resolve my problem so I no longer need to rely on ABXY.

That's really unusual that you couldn't even do the ABXY trick. Were you holding it immediately when launching? What should happen is you'll get the loading bus for a short time, then the erase data prompt. This happens before any town data is loaded, so if done correctly you should, in theory, be able to ABXY even if your town is bricked beyond repair.

Whilst you're online, I was going to suggest a new hack since you asked for suggestions earlier.

Is it possible we can get a 100% catalogue code?

The other thread would have been more appropriate to suggest it, but yes! I'll put it in the list.

Oh also, cut Bamboo isn't recognized in the RAM editor and just calls it 'unknown item: 0x1f'. I assume it's just a case of it not being updated to the item database or something? Wasn't sure if any of you needed to be told or anything, but thought it might be worth doing.

Hey, I am currently running on a 2DS with version 9.5.0-12 which in theory is within the compatible area, but I can't seem to get this to work at all despite following the guide as close as possible. I can't get leaftools to work either.

Can you double check which version you have, because the first system version that's 9.5.something is 9.5.22.

you've updated with a game at some point, didn't you? Updates from cartridges don't update the browser, so your browser is too old to work. The last number in your version should be at least 20 I think. i.e. 9.5.0.20, not 9.5.0.12.

9.5 started with 9.5.0.22, according to wikipedia, so I'm pretty sure you're 100% correct
